American Idol 2010 Auditions – Episode 4 Tonight
Out of the wind and in to the warm tonight on American Idol 2010 as the judges head to Orlando after last night’s Chicago audition round where only 13 of the 12,000 applicants moved on. Joining Simon, Randy, and Kara will be Kristen Chenoweth. Kristen has a strong background in music and performing so hopefully she’ll be more Shania and less Posh as a contributor.
Join us here on the site in the chat room and the comment threads when the episode airs tonight on Fox from 8:00 – 9:00pm ET.
While we wait, tell us which singers have been your favorite and who you are most looking forward to seeing again in Hollywood.

Last night was disappointing for me. John Park(the asian guy) was awesome..his voice is so smooth. I disagreed with Simon about the girl who almost died of asthma..she was great.
I dont know who Kristen Chenoweth is but I hope she will continue where Shania left off. Shania Twain was a great guess judge because she gave constructive criticism even to the idiots who are there for attention.
The funniest moment of the night for me was seeing that tough looking dude crying like a baby.WTF.
January 20th, 2010 at 10:50 AM
I don’t know, I don’t think John Park will make it out of Hollywood.
LOVED Shania, though!
January 20th, 2010 at 11:20 AM
John Park is in the top 24.
January 20th, 2010 at 11:26 AM
The crying tough guy (oops, I typed ‘girl’ first) was pretty sad/funny. Ah well, I’m sure having millions of viewers witness his tears didn’t get the water works running again…
Here’s Kristen’s wiki page for anyone interested:

Thanks Matt, I remember Kristen now. And great news about John Park Ashley.

Shania was awesome. You can tell by her body language she was into it. She how she sat forward the whole time. Clear indication of someone that is listening and taking things seriously. Watch Kara tonight. She is leaning back in her chair most the time. Not a good sign.

SO FAR I FEEL THE AUDITIONS ARE GOING OKAY WITHOUT PAULA….IT SEEMS LIKE KARA IS TRYING TO FILL HER SHOES, SHE SEEMS MORE OPINIONATED THIS YEAR THAN LAST. SHE’LL NEVER BE PAULA BUT I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO GIVING ELLEN A CHANCE…..CAN’T BE WORST THAN POSH!!!!!!
I REALLY LIKE THE 16 YEAR OLD, MICHELLE (I THINK THATS HER NAME) WITH THE FOREIGN SPEAKING GRANDMA… THEY REALLY DON’T SHOW US ALL THE CONTESTANTS THAT MAKE IT SO I REALLY AM LOOKING FORWARD TO HOLLYWOOD WEEK……
January 20th, 2010 at 1:33 PM
Loved the 16-yr-old who sang Summertime–she could be headed for the top 24!!

Where is anyone remotely with the ‘excitement’ level that Adam Lambert had
January 20th, 2010 at 2:30 PM
There is no one I have seen that even comes close to the talent of adam lambert.
January 20th, 2010 at 2:42 PM
SKOTIE 68,
I DON’T THINK WE WILL EVER SEE THE LEVEL OF EXCITEMENT THAT ADAM GAVE THAT SHOW…WE MAY SEE REALLY GOOD SINGERS BUT DEFINITELY NO ADAM…
January 20th, 2010 at 2:47 PM
I stick to my belief that Adam Lambert will be the downfall of Idol. He was just too good.
January 20th, 2010 at 4:07 PM
i don’t know what everyone is talking about with adam he lost get over it and move on the best person won last year so far i think they have pretty much gotten them all right execpt soul man
January 20th, 2010 at 4:17 PM
DAVE……IF YOU THINK THAT KRIS ALLEN (WHO I REALLY DO LIKE) WAS THE WINNER LAST SEASON..YOU REALLY DON’T GET OUT MUCH….SORRY
January 20th, 2010 at 4:26 PM
@dave – Never diss the “Soul Patrol”! Taylor was awesome and deserved to win. It’s the music they were making him sing after he won. I’d say 90% of the music on his debut album…SUCKED! Just not the syle of music he could really get into. They expected an old soul to change to pop icon. If they would have just stayed with his comfort level, he would’ve succeeded.
And never say never about the excitement level of performers to come. Yes Adam was awesome. But after the whole 2 David’s final, we weren’t expecting a good season to follow and we did have a good season. Just because the auditions have been less than stellar, does not mean that the talent that gets through won’t improve. The talent always gets better…except for Sanjaya. That guy just really sucked.
January 20th, 2010 at 4:31 PM
you may be right but i am sure taylor hicks could be doing much bettet with some talent and yes i am looking forward to some good talent again this look i just think it’s funny the way some people get all fired up and they can’t sing a lick
January 20th, 2010 at 4:37 PM
phylis do not know chris allen or care about him he must have not been much if i can’t remember who he was get out more then you think if you must know i was refering to taylor hicks
January 20th, 2010 at 4:44 PM
Kris who?
January 20th, 2010 at 4:55 PM
WELL DAVE IF YOU WATCHED AI WHEN TAYLOR HICKS WON YOU KNOW THAT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DAUGHTRY. NO SONGS COULD HAVE MADE TAYLOR HICKS A BETTER SINGER…..ALTHOUGH HE WAS ON BROADWAY AND DOING VERY GOOD BUT HE WAS NO AMERICAN IDOL….SORRY MIKEY…AND OF COURSE ITS ONLY MY OPINION…..
January 20th, 2010 at 5:51 PM
@PHYLLIS G. – I agree that Daughtry should have made the finals with Taylor. But you also have to understand that Daughtry didn’t necessarily fit the mold of AI. Rockers weren’t what AI was looking for at the time. It’s only really recently that rockers are fully accepted as legitimate contenders to win the show. Daughtry was very popular, but so was Elliot Yamin, Katherine McPhee, and Taylor Hicks. Taylor Hicks being the major underdog. Everyone loves the Underdog.
January 20th, 2010 at 6:26 PM
MIKEY, I LIKED ELLIOT AND KATHERINE BETTER THAN TAYLOR HICKS BUT AGAIN THATS MY OPINION….I REALLY THINK THAT AI LIKES TO PLAY IT SAFE…..THATS WHY DAUGHTRY AND LAMBERT DIDN’T WIN…….YET BOTH OF THEM ARE DOING PRETTY DARN GOOD….DON’T YOU THINK????
January 20th, 2010 at 8:30 PM
omg i nearly had a heart attack when kristen chenoweth came on
January 20th, 2010 at 10:25 PM
What was the name of the frank Sinatra song sang tonight?
January 20th, 2010 at 10:30 PM
What was the name of that bumper music played tonight with the lyrics: “You know that you want it cause you can’t deny it”
January 20th, 2010 at 10:49 PM
@PHYLLIS – yeah but so have a lot of other Idol contestants that didn’t win.
January 20th, 2010 at 10:56 PM
Help Larry finish his “Pants on the Ground” song put it to music and let him RIP!!! It is such a good story
January 20th, 2010 at 11:02 PM
I was watching tonight and was wondering (as on other nights)why it would show the arena full of people but the contestants singing in a hotel board room. After reading the AI website, I realized that “auditions” are only held on 1 day at the arena in the city they are in. Registration is over 2 days. From what I gather, at the audtitions (July 9 in Orlando for example) you show up at the Amway Arena at 5 am with you wristband and ticket and you are allowed ONE person in with you and no one under 5. If you are “selected” by the producers there, you move on to the next round, which I assume is in front of The Judges which is on a different day and different location. So yeah 12,000 people show up, but those 12,000 don’t make it to Simon, Randy et al. The producers have the first choice and if they don’t like you or they want comic relief for ratings, you don’t make it past the arena stage. Now I understand how it works and am now going to view the show in a different way… why pick the misfits to “move on” to the televised part, when you could have great singers out there but you don’t pick them cause they won’t be good for ratings!
That said, my fav was the girl with the crooked mouth. She had a sweet voice and was cute! The second best was the guy they took out in handcuffs! He was not following the rules about illegal drugs for sure!
This show is about ratings and popularity, not about who can sing. After Simon leaves this season, the show is toast so enjoy it while you can people!
January 21st, 2010 at 10:48 AM
YES, MIKEY I AGREE..
January 21st, 2010 at 6:48 PM
I am very disappointed that American Idol is only on for one hour on Tues. and Wed. night. If this is to be Simon’s last year with American Idol, the network should have made arrangements to have Idol on at least two hours or even three hours each night. One hour on Tues. & Wed. night does not make it with his fans.
Thank you.

I was most impressed with that young gal Jesse Barry. What a voice! She may have a good chance of going on.
February 25th, 2010 at 9:52 AM

Not a bad show. Caught the show last night along with a friend. She likes the series much more compared to me.
