American Idol 2014: What Should The Top 10 Sing?

American Idol Top 10 contestants

The American Idol 2014 Top 10 are taking on Top 10 songs this week. Top 10 as in songs that made it to Billboard’s Top 10. So that’s a very, very, VERY broad topic because I’m presuming they don’t mean the current Top 10 or even from this year.

So I’m going to somehow try to do this “what should the top 10 sing” post. Wish me luck. So what should they sing? Let’s get to it.

Alex Preston. “Say Something” by A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera. OK, so it’s a duet, but I think he could make it work with just him and his guitar. And I know some of the people will pick current songs, I just don’t know who yet.

Hold on. This is too hard. This is too broad. I’m going to have to make this easier by suggesting what KIND of songs the contestants should be doing this week.

C.J. Harris. His best performance was last week and that was “Can’t You See” by the Marshall Tucker band, so he needs to stick with that Southern rock angle. I think I could see him taking on some Bob Seger maybe. Something like “Against The Wind” or “Night Moves.”

Jessica Meuse. Her choice last week was a good one too. I think she’d be smart to keep up that sound. I’d like to hear her take on Jefferson Airplane or something super edgy like that.

Malaya Watson. Malaya needs to stick with the big numbers. She sounds so good when she does that. As far as particular artists, I think she could do wonders with Tina Turner. That’s who I really want her to cover this week.

Majesty Rose. Majesty really needs to go current this week. After her bottom three trip last week she needs to do something current and popular. Maybe she can take on Lorde or Lady Gaga or something. It just needs to be very smart.

MK Nobilette. I thin MK lucked out last week by not being in the bottom, so her song choice is everything this week. I think it’s time for her to speed things up a bit. She’s been sticking to folksy ballad types, so she needs to stop that and see how that works for her.

Dexter Roberts. Dexter is seemingly doing nothing wrong. So I think he can do whatever he wants. I would like to hear him pick up some classic country though. Or just take a really cool pop song and put his country spin on it.

Sam Woolf. It looks like Sam needs to make a smart move this week as well. I was going to suggest him taking on The Killers, but he might need to go with something even younger and fresher if he wants to not be in the bottom three again.

Caleb Johnson. Caleb is someone else who is seemingly doing everything right. And he slowed things down last week, so it’s time for him to speed things up again. I think it’s time for him to take on some Rolling Stones.

Jena Irene. Jena has gone back and forth with being safe and being in the bottom, so song choice is definitely everything with her. She was tender and behind the piano last week, so this week I think she needs to do something upbeat and edgy. And the song needs to be well-known so people will vote for her.

What would you like to hear the American Idol 2014 Top 10 sing this week?

    • Less to choose from, but less worthwhile music due to the current lack of memorable music. JMO

  1. Katy Perry’s “Dark horse” (if it didn’t have all the rap in it) would be perfect for Jena-since Harry called her the “DARK HORSE” several weeks ago!
