We will be live recapping the Top 3’s performances right here so keep us refreshed and comment throughout tonight’s episode as we’re interested in your responses and judgments on each delivery all night. It’s time to find out who is eliminated and who earns your American Idol vote.

ROUND ONE: SCOTT’S PICKS

Rayvon Owen performs “Want To Want Me”

This was a smart choice for Rayvon. It was right in his wheel house. His tone was perfect for it and it’s a popular and current song. So I think that will definitely gain him a few new voters this week. If he stays.

Clark Beckham performs “Beautiful Day”

Well, it was a big song, indeed. But not too big for Clark. I don’t really see him as a U2 kind of artist, but he handled it very well. It is by no means my favorite Clark performance, but it was still pretty solid. He can handle any song, really.

How to vote for Clark:

  • Text: 9 to 21523
  • Call: 1-866-IDOLS 09

Nick Fradiani performs “Because the Night”

This was a great song choice. That is a great song and it was absolutely perfect for Nick’s voice. I don’t know if any young fans will get behind the song, but maybe some younger fans learned a new song. I liked it more than the first two performances.

How to vote for Nick:

  • Text: 6 to 21523
  • Call: 1-866-IDOLS 06

Jax performs “My Generation”

I don’t see her as some punk rock artist, despite what she and Scott might think. So I don’t really get this song for her. It did nothing to showcase her vocals at all. And she was kind of all over the stage and just, no. Not my favorite performance by her at all.  But the judges loved it.

How to vote for Jax:

  • Text: 7 to 21523
  • Call: 1-866-IDOLS 07

I give round one to Nick.

ROUND TWO: HOMETOWN INSPIRATIONS

Nick Fradiani performs “Back Home”

I don’t know what this song is, but it was a pretty solid choice. It gave him a lot of energy and he sort of owned the song like it was his own. I think I like his first one better, but this was pretty decent.

How to vote for Nick:

  • Text: 6 to 21523
  • Call: 1-866-IDOLS 06

Clark Beckham performs “Sittin on the Dock of the Bay”

This was definitely more up Clark’s alley. And of course he is always better when he is behind the piano, so I definitely liked this one better than the first. I feel like this is truly who he is as an artist. Definitely a great performance.

How to vote for Clark:

  • Text: 9 to 21523
  • Call: 1-866-IDOLS 09

Rayvon Owen performs “As”

This was a sweet and tender effort with a funk twist from Rayvon. I think you could tell it’s a song that’s close to his heart because it was way more effortless than most of his other performances have been throughout the season. I liked it.

How to vote for Rayvon:

  • Text: 2 to 21523
  • Call: 1-866-IDOLS 02

Jax performs “My Immortal”

This was definitely better than the first performance. The song choice was right, the vocals were right, and the emotion was right. Her gimmicky tone didn’t even annoy me this time. I think this was one of her best performances ever, actually.

How to vote for Jax:

  • Text: 7 to 21523
  • Call: 1-866-IDOLS 07

I give round two to Jax.

ROUND THREE: JUDGES’ PICKS

Clark Beckham performs “Earned It”

I think I liked this performance. I mean it was totally different than anything Clark has ever done on the show, so it was a bit odd, I guess. But as I’ve said before he can sing anything and I think this performance was all the proof I needed to support that.

How to vote for Clark:

  • Text: 9 to 21523
  • Call: 1-866-IDOLS 09

Rayvon Owen performs “You Are So Beautiful”

Well I did not like this arrangement at all. I think Rayvon sounded good, but the song just sort of annoyed me. I didn’t even recognize it from this version. I think I just realized I’m kind of tired of Rayvon. If he makes it past tonight that’s just going to be silly.

How to vote for Rayvon:

  • Text: 2 to 21523
  • Call: 1-866-IDOLS 02

Jax performs “Misery Business”

Well  now I’m back to now liking Jax. Well not her, but the song and the performance. I liked the second one but not the first or this one. I jus think this is a weird song and it has to be done by the right person and that’s not Jax. Sorry.

How to vote for Jax:

  • Text: 7 to 21523
  • Call: 1-866-IDOLS 07

Nick Fradiani performs “I’ll Be”

This was sort of a random song choice for Nick. I mean it’s not new, it’s not right for his voice and it’s sort of tacky. Way to sabotage, Nick, judges. I mean he handled it well, but I never would’ve picked this song for him or anyone.

How to vote for Nick:

  • Text: 6 to 21523
  • Call: 1-866-IDOLS 06

I guess I give round three to Clark.

It’s time to find out who is moving on to the finale. Nick is the first person sent to safety. Clark is sent to safety next. That leaves Rayvon and Jax. Rayvon is eliminated, so Jax joins Clark and Nick in the Final 3.

  1. Jax ‘s first two songs were great. But she tinkered with the last one too much (even though her vocals were right on). Jax is trying to show that she has the makings of a song writer like Jena, but remember Jena already had approx. 75 originals to her name before becoming an AI contestant. No other idol, repeat “NO” other contestant had Jena’s songwriting credentials. Note: If Taylor Swift or Meghan Trainor had tried out for AI-then quite possibly? Note: Jlo said: ” last season we had a big voice and a “SONGWRITER” for the top two.”.

    • Both Jax and Jena are crappy singers, so that is a good comparison. Both more arrogant than competent. Both imagine they can play piano. Jax is a little better looking, I guess.
