    • Nothing. To me she’s a poseur and has no future on a national level, but to be fair IMO the rest of this pack is in the same boat.

      • Joey is another Meghan Trainor type! The kids eat up the record sales and that’s what it comes down to. She can also rap and sing like Meghan-something Iggy can’t do (only rap). I don’t like that type music either, so I’ll stick to my gal Jena’s fave-Jax. lol

    • To each their own, I always say not everyone will have the same feelings for another person.

  1. Were we listening to the same performances as the judges? My wife and I could not wait for Rayvon to get off the stage last night. His rendition of Burn was about as off-key as one could possibly get. Both of us were trying to figure out how he had made it this far… only to hear the judges just laud him with nothing short of a perfect score.

There were a few other performances that were terribly flat (Jax, e.g.) or had other issues that made me think there are only about 3-4 that are in it for the long haul here.

Maddie – she’s the only serious country contender. That’s going to carry her to the Top 5.
Jax – yesterday was far from her best, but I think she has the Jena-Irene-type of following already. A Top 2/3 prospect. If she can ‘cut-loose’, she’ll be in the finale.
Quentin/Qaasim – these two are splitting each other’s votes; once one leaves, the other will pick up the other’s votes. One will be a Top 5 contender.
Daniel – definitely riding the Cute-Boy vote wave. He’s just not going to fill the Beiber-void, though.. not unless he gets some strong and expert advice. I’m thinking he goes the way of the Sam.. Top 5, but that’s about it.
I think Adanna actually has better chances of getting into the Top 5 than Tyanna.

Joey and Tyanna just look like one-trick ponies. Once the audience grows tired of their niche styles .. I think they’ll bow out in the Top 6-8 spots. I have no idea how Nick can continue into the top 8. Though he has experience, I wonder whether he can show he’s fresh, new, current… He does not come off as a Caleb J. at all. If he can show he’s the next DepecheMode type, he’d shoot up.. but, last night was blah-blah-blah-boring. Clark, in my opinion, ala Simon is/was ‘forgettable’. Off the top of my head, I can’t recall what he sang last night. Sorry.

    • Last year, Jena was already pulling away from the pack in the Top 11 / Top 12 performances. Who’s doing that now?

I can think Jax is about the only one showing signs of originality. Yes, Quentin & Qaasim are also decent performers, but their focus seems to be more on outfits and dancing with a side of singing. Adanna seems to be a strong, quality singer, but can she show signs of creativity?

A.I. this season really needs a good 2-3 show stoppers like Caleb & Jena did for them last year. Where are they?

  2. I am, however, rather impressed with Hairy C.’s commentary and performance as a judge this year. I think all three of them have come a long way in commentary compared to last year; but Hairy’s improved the most.

Audiology-wise, … sigh still in the dull-drums (doldrums). While they were auditioning, or in the Detroit studios, .. no real big issue. But, back home in Hollywood, what the heck happened?? This has to be part of why we cannot enjoy the performances (and judge them) the same way the three judges can hearing the live performance.

Someone has to explain this to Per or Nigel—I don’t think either of them understand how big an issue this is for A.I.

    • First I tuned in this year was for the Detroit episodes. I didn’t think the sound in Detroit was all that great either. I’m having to turn up my TV’s volume louder than normal to hear the contestants better.

      • IMO the sound engineer needs a talking to. The band frequently overwhelms the vocals. The mix is off, not to mention that I’m not impressed with Ricky Minor and his minions.
