American Idol Gets Shazam’d

American Idol and Shazam

American Idol has broken out a new gadgety feature for the Season 11 performance shows and you’ll need your favorite device and Shazam app to make it all happen. While other singing competition shows have managed to display the name of the song on the screen during a performance, American Idol has steered clear of that helpful tidbit each week. Now, if you missed the finalist quickly mention the song name, you’ll be able to load up Shazam and get the night’s entire songlist.

Tune Wednesday nights 8:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed on FOX, when the remaining AMERICAN IDOL finalists perform. When fans use Shazam anytime during the show, they will have a quick and easy way to access:

· List of songs – see what the finalists are performing with links to buy the music both by the finalist and the original artist.
· www.americanidol.com video and photos – see additional videos and photos of the show, including clips from previous episodes.
· Sharing – get in the national conversation! Follow the Tweets from “insiders” and the public and share your own thoughts about the show on Facebook and Twitter!

AMERICAN IDOL will be Shazam-ready all the way through to the end of the two-night Grand Finale on Tuesday, May 22 (8:00-9:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) and Wednesday, May 23 (8:00-10:07 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) on FOX.

This is a pretty cool new feature for the show, and maybe I missed it on Wednesday, but I didn’t hear Ryan Seacrest or anyone else make this announcement during the show. Did any of you already put Shazam to use on American Idol 2012?

Side note: I like how American Idol has already calculated they’ll need exactly an extra seven minutes on the season finale to crown its winner. Be sure to tune in at 10:03.

What’s with the extra seven minutes? Are those seven minutes meant for Jes— I mean, the winner of AI when she/he sings her/his winning song?
