American Idol All-Star Reunion On Jimmy Kimmel [Video]

We’re all still reeling from the American Idol 2018 finale and are getting caught up on the aftermath of Maddie Poppe’s win. One of the best moments following the finale was Jimmy Kimmel reuniting some of American Idol’s most-known faces for a “We Are The World” parody called “Where Are They Now.”

“We have met so many memorable singers and personalities since American Idol premiered back in 2002 and we have wondered where some of our favorite contestants are now,” Jimmy Kimmel says to the camera and his studio audience. “So we tracked a bunch of them down, booked a recording studio, and for those of you who have been watching for a long, long time, we are pleased to present an American Idol all-star reunion performance for the ages!”

Singing together on the Kimmel episode following the finale were William Hung, Sanjaya Malakar, “Pants on the Ground” singer Larry Platt, Scott MacIntyre, Antonella Barba, “Chewbacca Girl,” Larry Platt, Kevin Covais, Haley Reinhart, Taylor Hicks and Rueben Studdard.

I’m not sure why some of those former contestants were a part of this as they were actually pretty good singers, and two of them even won the competition! Of course they aren’t exactly Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood famous today, but still.

We also get an appearance from former American Idol judge Randy Jackson.

At any rate, it’s pretty silly and funny and reminds us that American Idol, though as show that hunts for superstars, has never been one to take itself too seriously. I would like to see ABC get back to that a little more. We can’t leave all the goofiness up to Katy Perry, because let’s face it, she’s just not that funny. Her “humor” is often cringe-worthy.
