In season 2, American Idol champion Ruben Studdard covered Westlife’s “Flying Without Wings.” Last night on American Idol 2013, Burnell Taylor covered Ruben’s version. And while I think the song is one of the cheesiest songs to ever be performed on Idol, Burnell can do no wrong in my book.
His version of “Flying Without Wings” was different and Burnell enough, which is more than I can say about most of the covers last night. Few contestants changed things up, so it was nice to hear Burnell’s unique voice work magic on a song I’d normally cringe at.
I think Burnell did enough with the song to save himself tonight. What do you think? Have another listen to his version of “Flying Without Wings” below.
