As one of his American Idol Top 2 performances, Caleb Johnson sang his hopeful future ‘coronation’ song “As Long As You Love Me,” written by Darkness frontman Justin Hawkins. Unlike Jena Irene’s finale song, Caleb’s was not actually a true original, having been previously recorded by a South African Idol finalist and actually rejected by original American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson.
Even some of Caleb Johnson’s biggest fans were not loving the recording of “As Long As You Love Me” that was released last week in advance of the American Idol finale. However, Caleb live on stage is a very different beast than Caleb locked up in a studio without an audience to feed off of.
