  1. So Matt – my question is will you and Brandon be posting to SYTYCD and The Voice? I enjoy reading the stuff you guys write the best. Also, how does a person get a gig writing for any of these blogs?

    • I do all the posting on our The Voice site, a little on our SYTYCD site (couple of other writers help there), and Branden (along with Ashli Rae) will likely be joining me on our Big Brother site this summer.

I’ll send you an email about writing opportunities.

  2. Matt…..these are three of my favorite shows so I’ll be seeing you guys on those sites…..Thanks again Matt and Co.

    • Hi Matt

As Phyllis I already subscribed to The Voice, The X Factor and SYTYCD 🙂
Looking forward to read you all and thank you so much for keep us posted 🙂
Phyllis, see you next year in the AI site!!! please take care 🙂

  3. I’ll be at the X-Factor site. Thanx a ton for this one. As a 46 year old guy who has exactly ONE friend who likes American Idol, this site was a great way enjoy other people’s opinions, even if I didn’t always agree w/ em.

I’m an avid sports fan. Lots of friends who like the teams I do (Michigan football & Detroit Red Wing hockey). What’s even more fun though, is to become friends w/ people for other teams. It’s interesting to get their opinions on the games.

Off the subject a bit but I remember how I got into American Idol. It was the Bo/Carrie year & the NHL was on strike. I was channel flipping & it was the tryouts. This girl was sorta crazy & sang “Girls just wanna have fun.” Then they asked her to sing another song. She did & they sent her to Hollywood. I was like “huh? what’s this?” but kept watching.

As I watched, I was like “wow! That’s Paula Abdul. I was wondering what she’s been up too.” I had liked Paula back in the late 80s. Until that time I had never heard of Simon Cowell, Ryan Seacrest, or Randy Jackson. I’d heard of Kelly Clarkston, but didn’t realize that this was the show she’d won to become famous. From that day on I was hooked.

My top 3 that year were Anwar, Bo, & Carrie. Except for the year David Cook won, I haven’t been close to being that accurate again.

You & the people at this site did a great job.

    Warmly,
    Danny

  4. I so enjoyed this site and reading blogs from my fellow “James” fans-I’m going to start watching the Voice and see if I get hooked. I saw one show and really liked it.

  5. Matt and Branden,
Thanks so much for an exciting, informative season of American Idol 2011. Although I have been a fan of the show since the second season, this is my first season with americanidolnet. I didn’t know what I was missing! All the other seasons I avoided it because it wasn’t the “Official” site. Never again! Next season as a follower with Twitter I’ll be ready, and this will always be the first place I visit.

  6. I enjoyed AI this year because it was designed for the family. I was appalled by all the immoral numbers done in conjunction with big name stars. If AI wants to keep it’s ratings up, keep it clean!
I was very impressed with Lauren and Scotty and some others for the respectable choices they made instead of going with some of the recommendations.

  7. I love American Idol except for Ryan Seacrest. The finale was wonderful on both American Idol and Dancing with the Stars. I am so glad that they were not on at the same time.

    • Yeah! The host….even the judges in DWTS are much more likeable than AI’s

  8. this is the worst season of american idol ever pia and james were the two best singers of the season they are amazing i don.t know what america is thinking.

    • Pia and James not have a originality.
I thought American’s chose the rite way ..
      🙂

      • So you think this Josh Turner copycat has the real originality of his own? What a joke!

      • Country needs a young male singer but none have done great in sales until mid 20’s and without being on TV the young girls may move to someone new.

Found it funny that Lauren is not a natural blond but dyed it for the show.

    • Agreed about Pia & James…but it’s most likely the voting system’s fault instead of those innocent Americans

    • I really don’t think so that I was the worst season.
The results (122 million)mean something to you?
This the highest vote never seen at AI.
Ans this is not everybody who like wearing chains and scream like James did a couple times at the show, but what an amazing performer.
      Pia is very talented too.
I’m very happy with the results,I just love Scotty,
he is sincere, sensitive, humble, just listen to him,I
make me fell like a better person.

  9. I”m quite glad Scotty won.

However, one big mystery still lingers in my mind.

On Scotty’s visit home, he gave a concert. During that concert his idol Josh Turner appeared and they sang YOUR MAN and LONG BLACK TRAIN. Scotty almost melted upon being on the same stage with his idol. He has mentioned Josh in the past.

Flash forward a week to the finale. Tim McGraw appeared out of nowhere to sing with Scotty. There was absolutely no mention of Josh Turner and he wasn’t even in the audience to congratulate Scotty.

So? Big mystery. What happened to Josh Turner and where did Tim McGraw come from? (In my estimation, I think Scotty and Josh made a better duet than Tim and Scotty. The latter two weren’t like a duet. They were more like two solos going on at the same time.

I’d appreciate it if you could pass along your notions of what happened to Scotty’s idol JOSH TURNER.

    Thanks.

    • I did not think Scotty and Tim MacGraw’s duet was all that great either. “Two solo’s going on at the same time” was a acurate discription. And, I wondered why he did not do one with Josh Turner as well. My guess is that Josh’s schedule would not allow him to be there and Tim Magraw was a last minute fill in. But, that is just a guess.

      • Thanks for your thoughts, Steven.

I imagine Josh is out on tour and it’s possible he could’t come. However, Scotty could have done something to recognize his idol. My thought is that somebody at American Idol thought Tim was a bigger drawing card than Josh–and they talked Scotty’s parents into the idea of Tim over Josh and they pretty much had the final word because Scotty is a minor. I just hope Scotty didn’t burn a bridge with Josh–who is really where Scotty wants to be. Scotty is no Tim–he is more Josh. There’s something about this that smells a bit. Even so, I noticed where Scotty is number 1 on the charts for singles on iTunes–beating out Lady Gaga–and JLO is number 10. How about that?

      • Check to see who holds Tim and Josh’s contracts that could be telling. Jimmy or his parent company seemed to hold most the recording contracts for those who performed on the show.

    • Tim McGraw did not appear out of no where he started the song and Scotty joined him

    • Josh Turner records on MCA-Nashville, which is now part of Geffen that is under Jimmy Iovine’s Geffen label.

Tim McGraw records on an independent label Curb Records.

Scotty’s favorite artist is Garth Brooks, his favorite female singer is Carrie Underwood and his favorite male singer is Josh Turner.

Maybe Josh Turner wanted his own group to back him, whereas Tim McGraw doesn’t.

At least Scotty got to meet his favorite female singer.

  10. Matt and Branden, Thanks for everything you did here for Idol 2011. I feel like I’ve gotten to “know” some great people who commented on this site. I have to say I think I enjoyed this site almost as much as I did watching American Idol. The great final 13 contestants, with their variety of talent, provided good reasons for us to cheer and defend the performances of our favorites to the very end. I’m looking forward to seeing Coondog, Pup, Templar, Gautham, David, Brick, and all the others from this site on the Voice site. (If anyone thinks you don’t like dance, So You Think You Can Dance may surprise you. It changed my whole attitude toward dance, and more shocking to me, I became a fan of dance.) Till we blog again…

    • Sorry this shows up twice. The first time I got a message saying my comments did not go through so I changed the wording a little bit and resubmitted.

  12. Thank you to the Administrators and everybody else on this site. It was FUN!
I could feel the passion some of you have towards your favorite contestant/s (those on attack mode defending their idols haha), but all and all it was great to interact with some other AI fans.
Good job Branden, your predictions were right the majority of the times during a season that was nothing less than full of unexpected surprises.
The competition is over, I wish every single one of the 13 finalist the best of luck and now we’ll buy the music of the ones we liked!
And remember, is not about “love” or “hate”… this is a site to post and debate about likes and dislikes during a singing competition.
    Good bye everybody!
    Gabriela (Gaby)

  13. thank you guys so much for all the amazing blogs and charts… 5 words: cant wait till next year! wooo!

(james definetly should have won) 🙂

  14. My belated thanks to Matt for this site and for his, Branden’s and Ashley Rae’s entertaining reviews and informative backgrounder tidbits.

It was a bumpy start for me, but things are good now. And I am very appreciative of all of your efforts and fine work.

  15. As i thought, the final was as per expectation, good performances, but on the boring side; but the show afterwards with all the contestants, was absolutely brilliant. I do not take anything away from finalists, however i agree with Big James fan. It was James that started the after show off, and surely the producers know, you put the best one first in a show of this nature. Interest has to be captured immediately, as we all wait for better things to come, and frankly speaking, the other contestants came close, but not close enough.

    • I totally agree. I always thought it was sort of funny that not everyone seems to be seeing that James just blows everybody away with his talent. How we ended up with James being eliminated is crazy. Makes it pretty obvious that there’s a problem with the voting process, doesn’t it?

      • But, it’s all over now-Scotty won- and that’s good. Time to move on. James will do well and maybe he’s better off not being locked into something with American Idol.

      • great job on the blogs this year guys it was a lot of fun reading and reacting to everyones comments.
One last note. Congratulatuions to Scotty and Lauren for the final 2.

Please everyone do yourself a favor and purchase Haleys Itunes studio versions. Outstanding!
Also James version of MUse and maybe im a man.

        Have a great summer all!

      • Douglas….The voting definitely needs to be changed…I can only hope that the powers to be do something about it…..There is no need for Ryan to announce 122 million votes came in…..That number is a joke….The same people voted for 4 hours instead of 2….If everyone got the same amount of votes each then it will be a fair voting system…13 Idols, it should be 13 votes per text, per phone and on line voting….then when there is 12, it should be 12 votes, etc….just like DWTS…..much more fairer system….JMO…..but than what do I know I wanted James or Haley to win!!!
