American Idol winner Phillip Phillips took to Twitter this week to offer his condolences on the tragic death of teen murder victim Maren Sanchez. The 16-year-old Connecticut student was stabbed to death by a fellow classmate in the hallway of their high school. The young girl was a big fan of Phillip Phillips, and performed his hit “Home” in a school talent show the year he won American Idol.
Maren Sanchez was reportedly attacked by a 16-year-old boy after rejecting his proposal to go to prom with him. Although school staff and paramedics attempted to revive her on scene, she was later pronounced dead at a the hospital. The student who allegedly stabbed her has not been identified by police because he is a minor.
“I am so sad to hear of the tragic death of Maren Sanchez,” Phillip Phillips posted on Twitter. “My thoughts and prayers are with her family.”
Back in 2012, Maren Sanchez gave a beautiful performance of “Home” by Phillip Phillips during a school talent show, which you can watch below.
We agree with one YouTube viewer who said Sanchez was “an undiscovered talent.” Not only was her voice gorgeous, but she was reportedly a talented actor who was scheduled to perform in an upcoming school production of Little Shop of Horrors in several roles.
Our hearts go out to the friends and family of this sweet girl gone too soon.
