We said goodbye to our first member of the American Idol 2012 Top 13 and the results couldn’t have been more predictable.

At the top of the show we were “treated” to a group number. And while it actually wasn’t that bad for a group number, it’s still a part of one of American Idol’s biggest problems – the results show. Every year I say the same things: It’s too long. There’s too much filler. And people singing in groups of three or more sound awful about 90 percent of the time.

Oh, I almost forgot about the Ford Music Video. Sometimes they’re cool, but most of the time they’re awful. And Thursday night’s might have been one of the worst ever. The graphics were TERRIBLE. What is this 1996? Awful.

Finally, some results. Ryan pulls Jessica Sanchez, Elise Testone and Hollie Cavanagh to the center of the stage. Gee, I wonder how this is going to go down. Jessica and Hollie are safe and Elise takes the first seat in the bottom 3 girls.

And before I go any further, can we talk about how ridiculous it is to have a bottom 3 girls AND a bottom 3 guys? Come on. half of the people in their “bottom” groups aren’t even in the bottom. They’re somewhere in the middle. It’s so insulting.

Next up are Heejun Han, Jermaine Jones and Colton Dixon. (Broken record alert) Gee, I wonder how this is going to go down. Heejun and Colton are safe and Jermaine lands in a bottom 3 guys chair.

Up next we get to see that last year’s runner-up gave in to the Hollywood/Nashville diet and lost all of her character somewhere in a  pilates class.

And it’s time for more results. The remaining girls, Erika Van Pelt, Shannon Magrane and Skylar Laine take the stage. At this point I think, oh, there’s going to be a shocker. All the other results have been so obvious, so I guess this means America is crazy and didn’t vote for Skylar. But luckily, that wasn’t so. Skylar is safe and the other two join Elise in the bottom 3.

The remaining guys step up to find out their fates. Jeremy Rosado takes the second seat in the bottom 3, to no one’s surprise. And finally, there’s kind of a surprise. Not a huge surprise, but a surprise none the less. And that’s Joshua Ledet is in the “bottom” and not Deandre Brackensick.

Ryan immediately sends Joshua and Erika to safety and stops insulting them by calling their rankings “the bottom.”

After Mary J. Blige takes the stage, it’s the final results.

Jermaine and Shannon are sent to safety so that leaves Jeremy and Elise. And just as I predicted, the judges save the girl and send Jeremy home. I wonder who had the actual bottom votes. I would venture to bet that the true bottom 2 were Jeremy and Jermaine. And Elie would’ve been in that third to last spot. But that’s just a guess.

Did America and the judges make the right choices?

American Idol results are about to be revealed for the 2012 Top 13 singers. Ryan Seacrest will reveal which guy and which girl fell to the bottom of the vote pile last night and those two singers will probably face off one last time. The judges will then decide who will go home. We’re expecting it to be a guy, one in specific, but you never know. Let’s see what happens!

Ryan reveals Joshua and Erika are safe. One of the remaining Bottom 4 singers will be eliminated tonight. Jimmy Iovine agreed with our prediction that it’d be Jeremy. Let’s see if we’re both right.

In what must be a first in Idol history, Ryan asked one of the judges who should go home tonight and he actually got an answer! Steven Tyler answered “Jeremy” when asked who should go home tonight. Wow. Honesty from a judge.

Either Jeremy or Elise will go home tonight. Ryan asked Randy if America got it right and you can hear JLo softly say, “I don’t think so.” Sounds like she might be pulling to save the guy everyone says should go home tonight.

American Idol reveals the Season 11 Top 13 results tonight and we’re ready to discuss our weekly predictions. Last week you all did an excellent job via our weekly performance poll in predicting who was safe and who was in danger of elimination so let’s go to our poll and see what you all are expecting.

So far this week on American Idol 2012 the clear winner is Jessica Sanchez with a staggering 59% of the vote at the time of publishing. That leaves just 41% of the vote to be divided among the other twelve singers and no one comes close to a lion’s share of what remains. Behind Jessica you’ve got Hollie Cavanagh and Skylar Laine for the ladies in second and third place, respectively.

That leaves Shannon Magrane, Elise Testone, and Erika Van Pelt standing in the girls’ Bottom 3. I’d have to agree with that assessment considering their performances last night. Looking to last week’s results we saw Shannon and Elise earn America’s support to move on to the finalists seats, but Erika Van Pelt did not. She’s already shown that she can be voted out and I’d guess America was ready to do it again last night. Look for Van Pelt in the danger zone.

Across the aisle in the guys’ group we’ve got a repeat of last week with Phillip Phillips leading the pack with 9%. Heejun Han isn’t far behind with his rendition of “All in Love is Fair” and gets second place among the guys. Colton pulled through enough to earn third place in your votes here on the site. I’d have a hard time disagreeing with that Top 3 for the guys, so I won’t.

Since the guys came in with an extra singer to the American Idol Top 13 we’ll just group that additional guy in to the danger zone. DeAndre, Joshua, Jermaine, and Jeremy own those seats tonight if your votes are any reflection. Just like my argument against Erika above, I think his previous elimination last week makes Jeremy a vulnerable candidate to be sent home.

At that point the elimination is out of our hands. The judges take control and will decide which singer will see the end of his or her journey through American Idol. If those bottom two singers are Jeremy and Erika then normally I’d say it’d be a close call, but Idol production is scrambling for a female winner. I completely agree with Branden’s predictions for tonight. Erika will survive her second elimination by America, be saved by the judges, and keep the girls at six singers. Meanwhile, Jeremy will head back home.

Tonight on American Idol 2012, we’ll say goodbye to the first member of the Top 13 and, as we learned last night, not in the normal American Idol fashion.

That’s right, the guy with the least amount of votes will stand next to the girl with the least amount of votes as Randy, Jennifer and Steven decide that the guy which person will go home. But for now you can still vote for your favorite in our poll.

And like I said last night, I think it’s a pretty safe bet that, since it’s the judge’s choice, the bottom guy will be going home. We know they’ve been trying to push for a girl winner the past several years (and JLo mentioned again last night), so they will most likely be shipping home a guy.

Mary J. Blige, who was a great mentor by the way, will take the stage to perform live. Also performing is Idol Season 10 runner up Lauren Alaina.

It was a battle of the sexes like never before for the American Idol 2012 Top 13 tonight. As we’ve learned, the bottom guy and the bottom girl will be up for elimination based on the judges’ decisions.

That leaves us with a question about the American Idol judges’ save that has been a big part of the show the past couple seasons. Will that return next week after they get past this stunt that is clearly a plot to eliminate a guy right away? It’s anyone’s guess.

On to the recap. As always, I’ll review each performance and assign the letter grades I think each deserved.

In order of performance:

Joshua Ledet, “I Wish.” Joshua is totally a natural. He was right in his comfort zone with this song. And even though he got a little screechy, he still had a very solid performance. His energy and presence were as strong as his vocals. A

Elise Testone, “I’m Your Baby Tonight.” I wish I understood why she didn’t make this song more her own. There was a slight blues-y spin on, but it wasn’t in her comfort zone at all. And that’s sad. I really don’t want her to go home anytime soon because she has the most interesting voice among the girls. C+

Jermaine Jones, “Knocks Me Off My Feet.” Well that was pretty boring. I heard a little bit of a range in his performance tonight so I know it’s not all ultra low. But that seems to be where he stays — waaaaaay down there. And I’m not a fan of it. We all like the kind of music we like and sometimes there’s no budging. I think Jermaine is never going to be able to break through with me. Luckily I don’t count. Ha. C-

Erika Van Pelt, “I Believe In You And Me.” Ugh. why did she pick this song? A lot of people are picked the wrong songs tonight, but this was one of the biggest mistakes. She’s a rocker and this song is a powerhouse song. This is the kind of song Jennifer Hudson sings, not Erika Van Pelt. She’s a great singer, but I just don’t think she could pull this off. C

Colton Dixon, “Lately.” Colton had a boring start but when it took off it really took off. He seriously went from a C to an A in a matter of seconds. A

Shannon Magrane, “I Have Nothing.” I didn’t think this performance was ALL bad. I even wrote in my notes that “this girl can f***ing sing.” But then she blew that money note and was never able to recover. I think the judges unfairly focused on the bad. But hey, that’s how it goes. D+

Deandre Brackensick, “Master Blaster.” Eh. A little too Reggae for me. Deandre is a great singer and performer, but he made a very bad song choice tonight. He already didn’t make it into the Top 13 based on America’s votes, so he had to really sell it tonight to get some votes and I don’t think he did. C+

Skylar Laine, “Where Do Broken Hearts Go.” Skylar did things tonight that I didn’t know she could do! I thought she was perfectly fine as a little country girl with a raw, classic-country sound. Then she belted out this song? I was like, whaaaat? I don’t even like country but I found myself really rooting for Skylar tonight. Nice. A+

Heejun Han, “All in Love is Fair.” Heejun gave us a softer side tonight and while it was a perfectly fine vocal, it wasn’t very exciting. If there’s a definition of a safe performance this was it. B+

Hollie Cavanagh, “All The Man That I Need.” Her performance was perfect. Literally perfect. There’s really nothing else I can say about it. A+

Jeremy Rosado, “Ribbon in the Sky.” Much like Deandre, Jeremy has a lot to prove. And just like Deandre, he didn’t deliver. Sure Jeremy is sweet and a great singer, but he didn’t do what he needed to do tonight. He’s at great risk tomorrow night. B-

Jessica Sanchez, “I Will Always Love You.” I knew someone had to sing the song. I just didn’t want it done in the style of Whitney. But Jessica changed my mind. And there’s nothing I can say that hasn’t been said. It was amazing. I think Hollie was still a little more perfect, but Jessica might have out-edged her with some emotion. A+

Phillip Phillips, “Superstition.” PP in the pimp spot! I felt like I was at a Phillip Phillips concert. He’s such a natural and it’s all so effortless that I’m not sure he could suck if he tried. I like that his voice is one of the most unique in the contest. Like Jimmy Iovine said, he’s a great musician AND a great vocalist. Which has been rare on American Idol in 11 seasons.

So how’s it all going to play out tomorrow night? Well, this is what I think could happen. And as always, this is what I think COULD happen based ONLY on how I think America might vote. These are not who I think should go home. At all.

100 Percent Safe: Jessica Sanchez, Hollie Cavanagh, Phillip Phillips, Heejun Han, Colton Dixon, Joshua Ledet, Skylar Laine.

Most Likely Safe: Shannon Magrane, Elise Teston,  Deandre Brackensick and Jermaine Jones.

Most Likely the Bottom Guy: Jeremy Rosado

Most Likely The Bottom Girl: Erika Van Pelt

Most Likely the Judge’s Elimination: Jeremy

Why? Because if they actually have the choice, there’s NO WAY they’re going to send a girl home. Since it normally takes weeks for a guy to be sent packing, I’m about 100 percent sure the producers will force them to pick the guy. No matter who it is. Jeremy could easily be replaced with Jermaine or Deandre, and Erika easily replaces with Elise, I think. But I have a stronger feeling with my first thoughts.

Once again, we’ll be weighing in on what your American Idol 2012 contestants should sing each week based on whatever the theme is.

This week the American Idol guys will take on songs by Stevie Wonder while the girls pay tribute to Whitney Houston with her songbook. Here’s just one person’s opinion on what the contestants should sing. Feel free to tell us what you think your favorite contestants should sing this week.

Jessica Sanchez: “Greatest Love of All.” One of Whitney’s powerhouse vocals, I think American Idol’s little powerhouse could do great justice to the song.

Hollie Cavanagh: “I Have Nothing.” Another big song for another big voice, I think Hollie would handle it well. It might be a better idea for her to finally do an upbeat song, but that can come later.

Skylar Laine: “I Will Always Love You” (in the style of Dolly Parton). Since no one will ever sing “I Will Always Love You” like Whitney did I think the song should be banned from the choices. UNLESS Skylar decides to sing it in the style of Dolly Parton (or the original country version). I think Skylar’s raw country sound would pay great tribute to how the song was originally recorded.

Shannon Magrane: “Saving All My Love For You.” Shannon is teetering on that line of fading into the background, so she needs to sing a well-known Whitney song. I think this hit could help her step up her game a bit.

Elise Testone: “Where Do Broken Hearts Go.” I think Elise could put her raspy, soulful spin on this song and have a moment. Just her behind the piano. I really want to hear this now.

Erika Van Pelt: “It’s Not Right But It’s Okay.” Someone needs to do this song. It needs to be done close to the upbeat remix and if anyone can handle it, it’s Erika. It might be the best move for her since it’s not a really really well-known song, but it happens to be my favorite Whitney song (in a guilty pleasure kind of way).

Phillip Phillips: “Higher Ground.” Since I think Phillip can take any song and put his spin on anything, it really doesn’t  matter what he sings. But I’d love to see him do this one. His soul added to some funk could lead to some great results.

Joshua Ledet: “Superstition.” I’d rather no one sing this song since it’s overdone, but since someone WILL sing it, then I think it should only be Joshua. I think he’s the only one who could really handle it. And handle it well, I’m sure he would.

Jermaine Jones: “My Cherie Amour.” Since I don’t really think Jermaine’s voice works outside of a doo-wop group from the 1950s, I’m never going to know what he should sing. So this one is as dull and as boring as I think he could turn out to be.

Heejun Han: “Signed Sealed Delivered.” Since Heejun always has to be silly and goofy, he might as well do one of Stevie’s silliest songs.

Jeremy Rosado: “Lately.” I think with Jeremy’s silky smooth voice, “Lately” could be an amazing performance by him. BUT he’s a wild card pick. He might need to do something more well-known like “You Are the Sunshine Of My Life.”

Colton Dixon: “We Can Work it Out.” I think Colton could put a nice indie-rock spin on this. Someone’s going to sing this song, I’m sure. I hope it’s Colton.

Deandre Brackensick: “I Wish.” I think someone already did this song. Maybe even Deandre. But my thinking is this: if a song was performed before Top 12/13, then it doesn’t count. It can be done again.

I’ve found it hard to choose what the Top 13 should sing because I don’t know of them that well yet. What would you like to hear the Top 13 sing?

American Idol 2012 gets into full swing this week as the Top 13 takes the stage to sing for your votes.

On Wednesday, American Idol will make history when it rings in its 400th episode, as the Top 13 will be mentored by Mary J. Blige. The guys take on the music of Stevie Wonder and the girls will pay special tribute to Whitney Houston.

On Thursday, we’ll find out who of the Top 13 will be the first to head home in the elimination episode. Mary J. Blige is set to perform as is Season 10 runner-up Lauren Alaina who will perform her hit “Georgia Peaches”. Watch the video here.
