American Idol 2014 runner-up Jena Irene Ascuitto has signed a record deal with indieOriginal 1265 Recordings, according to the Detroit Free Press.
Jena Irene may have placed second on American Idol season 13 behind winner Caleb Johnson, but she will always be first in the hearts of her fans. Now she hopes to wow them with her forthcoming album.
According to Jena, signing with an indie label in Detroit was not the goal she originally had in mind.
“I wanted to move to L.A. for so long. I was so ready to pack up and leave right after I got home,” the young singer told the Detroit Free Press in an interview. After the hype died down from American Idol, however, “the decision of staying in Detroit all just fell into place.”
American Idol 2014 runner-up Jena Irene is as much songwriter as singer, and that will be reflected in her upcoming album with Original 125 Recordings. Out of the 13 tracks currently planned for the record, 11 are either penned by Jena Irene, or co-written by the 18-year-old powerhouse vocalist.
Despite not winning American Idol season 13, will Jena Irene Ascuitto be the next breakout star of the show, as Adam Lambert was from his season? Tell us what you think in the comments section below.
