American Idol Sets January 2013 Premiere Dates

American Idol is back! Well almost. FOX has just announced the 2013 season premiere dates set for this coming January. Along with this news we’re seeing a brand new commercial for the upcoming season 12 featuring, you guessed it, Phillip Phillips as last season’s big winner.

We’re now less than three months from the 2013 premiere on January 16th and 17th so there’s still some time to go but it’ll go by quick as we count down to the return of American Idol. The first night will hit us with two full hours but the second night will already scale back to just one hour. Here’s what FOX had to say in their official press release:

FOX is announcing the winter season and series premiere dates for new and returning series, including the returns of AMERICAN IDOL and TOUCH, and the debut of new thriller THE FOLLOWING.

Featuring host Ryan Seacrest and new judges Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban, along with returning judge Randy Jackson, the 12th season of AMERICAN IDOL begins with the exciting two-night premiere Wednesday, Jan. 16 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) and Thursday, Jan. 17 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT).

Here’s a look at the new (first?) American Idol 2013 season promo with Phillip Phillips and Randy Jackson since Fox really wants you to only remember him as a judge and not those other two. The commercial features “Home,” one of the singles off Phillips’ upcoming album release.
