Of all the American Idol 2016 finalists, it seems that Trent Harmon ended up with one of the worst song choices sent in by the fans for this week’s theme. Either that, or he just failed to pick a better one from his list of possible selections. Even so, Trent works with what he’s got and still performs like a beast to really show off why he’s a strong fan favorite to possibly win the season.
Trent Harmon’s song choices throughout season 15 have been very solid, and he’s risen in the ranks to be a heavy contender for the season 15 throne. He may started off in Hollywood a bit rough, suffering from mono and barely squeaking by a few times. At this point, however, he’s hard on track to end up in the American Idol 2016 finale. Of course, all it takes is one bad song to sour the fans, so it was crucial that his performances this week were both very strong.

Unfortunately, the first song choice from the fans that Trent performed was not really a great pick for him. The American Idol judges didn’t like it at all, but still thought Trent gave a good performance anyway. The tune just really didn’t give him the chance to shine like he usually does, and he either couldn’t or didn’t shake it up to make it better for his style. Keith Urban and Jennifer Lopez just thought it was a bad choice and that he did what he could. Harry Connick Jr. gave Trent a pass for doing his best with it.

The American Idol judges are totally in love with this song choice for Trent Harmon. It redeems everything about his first performance not being absolutely stellar. Harry Connick Jr. said he can feel Trent in everything he sings and would love to hear him duet with Adam Lambert. Keith Urban told Trent it was the perfect lyrics for Trent and he loved the song choice. Jennifer Lopez got teary-eyed and said it was moments like this when you hear a singer connect with the perfect song that is really going to make her miss American Idol.
