Tristan McIntosh American Idol Top 8: ‘Go Rest High On That Mountain’ [VIDEO]

Tristan McIntosh started out strong on American Idol 2016 with an emotional oomph behind her audition that got viewers engaged from the start. She soared through Hollywood Week and conquered The Green Mile with strong, consistent performances. However, in the last few weeks, Tristan seems to have failed to really distinguish herself in a big way on stage. Which may be why she seems to be slipping in popularity with the viewers.

In our weekly fan favorites poll, American Idol finalist Tristan was ranked pretty low by the voters, just barely coming in above Olivia Rox, Avalon Young, and Gianna Isabella of the Top 10. However, we think Tristan made a great song choice this week in doing “Go Rest High On That Mountain” by Vince Gill.We sorely need some country in this year’s finalist rounds — having lost all our strong country singers — and this performance was some of the best vocals for Tristan all season.

Keith Urban seems to love the performance and is glad mentor Scott Borchetta got Tristan to switch to this song instead of doing “Clarity.” Jennifer Lopez says this is the Tristan they fell in love with and it was a great performance. Harry Connick Jr. wants to know if she was singing about anyone in particular and Tristan says she sang it for her grandfather, who has a bad back injury.
