This Sunday on American Idol 2018, the Top 7 will again be singing for your votes and this time it’s songs from the Prince songbook.
The American Idol hopefuls will be singing songs from the late artist and will again be voted on in real time with more results at the end of the two-hour episode. We thought it would be fun to once again weigh in on what songs we’d like to hear the contestants perform.
What Should The American Idol 2018 Top 7 Sing This Week?
Gabby Barrett: “When Doves Cry.” I immediately thought of this one for Gabby. I think she could have a moment with this and she needs it after last week’s mediocre performance. Alternate choice: “Purple Rain.”
Cade Foehner: “Let’s Go Crazy.” I first picked “Purple Rain” for Cade, but then I thought he could probably do a lot more with “Let’s Go Crazy.” I’d still love to see him do a rock version of “Purple Rain,” but I think this other is more his speed. Alternate choice: “Sign O’ The Times.”
Caleb Lee Hutchinson: “The Most Beautiful Girl in the World.” I could really hear a country spin on this song. And it would be a smart choice, because he could sing it to his female fans and reel those votes in. Alternate choice: “Little Red Corvette”
Jurnee: “Diamonds and Pearls.” I think Jurnee will be able to sing any Prince song and do it well, but I think she could really do something with this one. Alternate choice: “Kiss”
Maddie Poppe: “Raspberry Beret.” For me, there’s no other option for Maddie. I’d love to hear her put her spin on this. Alternate choice: “Manic Monday” (this is a Bangles song, but written by Prince)
Catie Turner: “Little Red Corvette.” I couldn’t figure out which song was best for Catie, so I just picked “Little Red Corvette.” I’m sure someone will sing it, so it might as well be her. Alternate Choice: “Nothing Compares 2 U.”
Michael Lee Woodard: “Purple Rain.” I feel like they’re probably fighting over who is going to do “Purple Rain,” and maybe no one will, but I’d love to hear what Michael could do with Prince’s signature song. Alternate song: “7”
