American Idol 2014 Hollywood Week is currently underway in Los Angeles and we have some new highlights to share! According to the latest American Idol spoilers we’ve uncovered so far, we will be seeing a LOT of familiar faces from previous seasons of both Idol and The X Factor. Something else that will be returning this season during Hollywood Week? The fun banter and obvious affection between the American Idol judges — one of the aspects of the show that was severely lacking last season.
We’ve been busy compiling a list of American Idol 2014 spoilers from Hollywood Week about which hopefuls were lucky enough to grab a Golden Ticket during auditions. You can check out the constantly updated list over here. We’ll also be posting American Idol season 13 spoilers shortly on who made it through the Hollywood Week rounds and who was eliminated. As always, we’ll give you plenty of SPOILERS warnings at the top of every post.
Today, we have some tidbits to share from some of those lucky folks who are actually on the ground at American Idol Hollywood Week. Unfortunately, we could not be on hand ourselves this year, but we have our ears to the vine for any and all goodies to bring you, including some fun inside scoop from Entertainment Weekly.
“With new judge Harry Connick Jr. joining Keith Urban and returning judge Jennifer Lopez on the panel, this season already has a warmer, different vibe than the last one — better known as Mariah vs. Nicki,” according to Jake Perlman of EW.
Contestants had to first sing a song of their choice a cappella on stage at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. (We hear, however, that hopefuls who got three yes votes from the American Idol judges were able to skip this round.) Each singer was allowed to have two friends or family members in the audience to cheer them on.
Moving on to the groups round, there were apparently a lot of instruments in use, but for some contestants this wasn’t a good thing. EW says “one guitar wasn’t sitting well with Urban, who claimed the out-of-tune sounds were too distracting for him and made the contestant sing again without it.”
Apparently some of the best highlights included a gospel rendition of “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus, and an acoustic version of “Scream and Shout” by Britney Spears. Harry Connick Jr. reportedly has been keeping everyone entertained with his jokes, while Jennifer Lopez has been playing ‘mom’ to the contestants on the judging panel.
