CJ Johnson American Idol audition video.
Who knew there were so many young, male singers out there who go by the name of CJ Johnson? Took us a while to narrow down which one of them was the one we wanted. Thankfully, CJ posted about auditioning for American Idol on several of his social media sites, so that helped! The CJ Johnson, or Chris Johnson, who will be appearing on this season of American Idol is currently the lead singer for the Memphis based band American Fiction, founded in 2013.
During his musical career so far, CJ Johnson has performed and recorded with such musicians and bands as PLAYA FLY, Montana Trax, Ryan Curon, Craig Davis Band, and Premo D’Anger. His band, American Fiction, was formed from a collection of friends and musicians, and includes CJ on guitar and lead vocals, Landon Moore on guitar/vocals, Blake Rhea on bass, Pat Fusco on keys/vocals, and Pewee Jackson on drums.
In a bold move, CJ Johnson sent a demo tape of the band’s song “Dumb Luck” to rock producer Eddie Kramer (Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles). According to the band’s Facebook page, Kramer’s wife liked the tune and told him he’d “better listen to this.” One thing led to another, and the band eventually sat down with Kramer to produce their debut album. The band released “Dumb Luck” in 2014 and they’ve been pumping out rock n’ roll ever since. Now CJ is launching his next adventure, this time as a solo competitor on American Idol 2016.
