American Idol’s Carrie Underwood Joins ‘The Sound Of Music’

Carrie Underwood

Carrie Underwood is set to expand her post American Idol career with another acting notch in her belt for an upcoming role as Maria von Trapp in “The Sound of Music.”

Announced on Friday, the production is set for Christmas 2013 and will be a live broadcast. Now they say “live” but I think they just must be referring to television in general as opposed to a play. I can’t imagine a three-hour musical run live on TV.

Carrie’s past acting credits include an episode of “How I Met Your Mother,” “Sesame Street,” and a role in the film “Soul Surfer.” Bringing her musical talents to an acting role sounds like a new challenge for her but I’m guessing she’ll do great.
