Mariah Carey And Nicki Minaj Confirm Their American Idol Exits

We all already knew Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey wouldn’t be returning to judge American Idol for a second season, but both artists have confirmed their departures via Twitter.

Mariah confirmed her exit by retweeting what her publicity company tweeted.

“W/ global success of “#Beautiful” (#1 in 30+ countries so far) @MariahCarey confirms world tour & says goodbye 2 Idol,” the retweet said.

Fox and show producers had this to say of Mariah’s departure:

“Mariah Carey is a true global icon – one of the most accomplished artists on the planet – and we feel extremely fortunate  that she was able to bring her wisdom and experience to the American Idol contestants this season. We know she will remain an inspiration to Idol hopefuls for many seasons to come.”

Nicki took a more direct approach but announced the news not long after Mariah’s, which had fans speculating Nicki did not want to be one-upped by Mariah’s news.

“Thank you American Idol for a life changing experience! Wouldn’t trade it for the world! Time to focus on the Music!!! Mmmuuuaahhh!!!” Nicki Tweeted.

Fox and show producers also responded to Nicki’s news:

“Nicki Minaj is a superstar who brought a level of honesty and passion to American Idol and who had a tremendous positive impact on so many contestants this season. Given her extremely busy career, we understand and respect her decision and wish her the best.”

So that’s three down, including Randy Jackson. The news on Keith Urban should be coming soon. As we reported earlier this week, Keith says he has no idea what’s going on next season.

Will you miss Mariah and Nicki next season on American Idol 2014?

  1. Definitely will not miss either of these but for different reasons. Mariah because she is a deservedly global superstar but a boring judge. Nicki because she is a mindless, talentless moron who has contributed to AI falling further in the ratings. To call Nicki boring simply does not do the word justice. It would take a whole phrase such as ‘oh my god please get rid of this truly awful self aggrandising halfwit’ to start to get close to how bad she is. If she was paid in anything other than e.g. Marathon bars, that would have been very wrong indeed.

  2. Thanks for the info Branden! From what I have seen and heard the only man standing will be Ryan Seacrest. He is really great at being a host! I agree with objective. Except for Nicki. I think Nicki had some good constructive remarks about the contestants! And Mariah kept going on and ” Oh darling Blah Blah.” She was indeed boring even if she is a global superstar. I still think Keith Urban was the best. He made constructive comments too. I think he was a bit unnerved sitting next to Nicki. He is a gentleman. And I think he never knew what she was going to do. That was so funny when they brought Jimmy out on the stage and Nicki got up looking like she was heading for the boxing ring.Poor Jimmy. He didn’t know what to do , or say. So he said ” I think she has a crush on me.” It even startled Seacrest. And not much startles him. Again have a nice summer Branden. You and Matt too! We shall see what they decide to do about the judges next year. I mean later this year.

  3. I agree with Objective… only he did not describe Nicki enough. Nicki whole handed by herself lead to the total melt down of any ratings American Idol had over the years.

  4. Nicki Minaj is large reason I did not watch AI at all this season. I cannot stand to look at nor listen to her. No class whatsoever. Highly narcissistic, with nothing to back it up or redeem herself.

I tired of Randy Jackson long ago, and will not miss the Dawg Man.

I hope AI does a better job at recruiting judges this time around, because I do miss tuning in. For now, “So You Think You Can Dance” is the only competition show I can stand to watch, much less want to.

  5. Will not miss the fighting between Mariah and Nicki. Mariah was getting better as a judge toward the end IMO. Nicki did have some constructive comments in between the odd ones. Neither did enough to warrant staying. Both did enough to make their leaving more of a relief than a regret.

  6. Keith Urban is the only judge who acted like he had any sense and I hope he returns next season. As for the other three; I am glad they are gone. I grew weary of their histrionics when Amber or Candice sang. They didn’t look like judges at all but instead appeared like audience members at a gospel music concert. Nicki was a polarizing personality, Randy’s act grew old and Mariah was clueless.

    • Agree with Doug! Keith was the only judge who acted like he had any sense! Truly!!!
