The American Idol gang grace the cover of next week’s TV Guide and from the interview inside, it sounds like the auditions this season get a little intense.
TV Guide Magazine: How have the auditions gone so far?
Jennifer Lopez: Last season our Hollywood week was easy breezy compared to this year, which was brutal. We had kids falling by the wayside.
Steven Tyler: Literally falling down.
Randy Jackson: Passing out, fainting.
Lopez:Kids were forgetting their words. Shaking in their voice. People we thought were going to be in the Top 10 were just crumbling. We were like, “What is going on?” I guess it was the pressure of seeing the previous season and how it was big.

I can understand the nerves and anxiety of the contestants. This is life changing even for those who don’t make it through Hollywood week. It seems many of them have long believed, through unwarranted encouragement from family and friends, that their talent was greater than it really is. Shocking wake-up call. And very demoralizing. For those that make the cut, the pressure must be agonizing.
