In this day and age, it may seem old-fashioned to some for a couple to stay abstinent before marriage, but that’s something that was very important to American Idol alumn Colton Dixon. The season 11 finalist got married to gorgeous girlfriend Annie Coggeshall on January 8th. Before the wedding, the two had never even slept in the same bed together because of their strong religious beliefs.
“It was kind of strange: we checked into the room and realized, ‘We actually get to go to sleep side by side! This is so cool!'” Colton Dixon told People. “Anywhere we’ve traveled before, we’ve always gotten two hotel rooms. We wanted to remain pure in that area.”
Colton and his new bride are devout Christians, and they were determined to remain abstinent until they tied the knot. However, saving themselves for marriage was “not easy,” Colton said. “But I believe sex was designed for marriage, and I knew it would be more meaningful to wait.”
A graduate of the Middle Tennessee Christian School, Colton grew up with the firm belief in remaining a virgin until he wed. “That was something I grew up thinking and feeling,” Colton told People, “and I believe the Bible backs it up as well.
