American Idol Cancelled? FOX Confirms – Beginning Of The End

It’s official. American Idol was cancelled, but not just yet. Idol will return in 2016 for one last go at finding the next superstar as we sign off from our favorite singing show out there.

This morning FOX made the suspicions a reality with this announcement that Idol was ending but would do so with a proper send off rather than a disappearing act at the end of this year’s season. Join us on Facebook & Twitter for one last season of fun!

“American Idol will begin its 15th — and final — season this January on FOX. A season-long celebratory event, American Idol XV will feature host Ryan Seacrest and judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick, Jr., as they search for the final Idol superstar and pay tribute to the past 14 seasons of amazingly talented contestants and the millions of fans who tweeted, texted and championed their Idols,” announced FOX in a press release on Monday morning.

Going to Twitter, Idol made the same news known sharing a photo of the current panel of Judges along with host Ryan Seacrest shadowed under the sad phrase “The Final Season.”

We thought perhaps we might see a return of the original panel for one last time, but I think this is better. The current Judges Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr., and Keith Urban have breathed new life in to the series after the previous panel’s disastrous impact on the franchise. It’s good to let these stewards send us off with a final good night and good luck. And huge props to Ryan Seacrest for staying by Idol’s side all this time even after he no longer needed it for his career.

Are you sad to see American Idol cancelled or do you think it lasted too long already?

  1. They should bring back all the favorite contestants that didn’t win over the years and have them compete against each other. American Idol All Stars. I would like to see the original judges back. I like these three, but they never give good advice it’s all praise and back pats.

    • that would be a wonderful idea Karen and would love to see that and would be a good name for it too.

    • brilliant idea!! adam will finally get the recognition he deserves!!! an allstar show would be most welcome considering that at present the show is old and tired, and not coming up with the talent it had previously. it’s time to put it to bed

      • thanks, darlin’!! they WILL do it at home tomorrow nightand then mr ovechkin and his cronies can polish up the golf clubs!!

    • a great idea. and I agree – for final season bring back the original judges

    • I LOVE that idea. Sadly, some of them may be “too old” for Idol’s age cutoff now, but if they decided to do bring singers back, maybe they’d waive that rule. The Voice finds great talent that’s “old” at 29 and more.

    • Yea really and not let any of the winners be involved cause if a few winners like carrie would be in it then she would win Just because it’s her

  2. I look forward to American Idol every year! I love this show will be sad to see it go!

    • Me too! The premier often landed on my birthday and made the long snowed in winters bearable. Now What?? 🙁

  3. I do not think this is the end of shows like this. There is the Voice..X Factor….and for all we know another network could pick it up or something very similar to it. I actually look forward to it. My only wish is that it allowed contestants to be a little older sometimes. I hope they change their minds. Maybe if enough of us protest…maybe they will. Demographics and advertising drive the market. Enough people show interest in keeping it going…who know’s. Maybe the producers are just tired. 🙂

    • The rules require younger contestants, and the networks wants those precious under 49-year-olds to watch, but the demographics show a huge number of Idol viewers (and voters) are 50+, who watch faithfully, but historically don’t financially support many of the winners (such as buying their music, attending concerts, etc). Hmmm, I guess the under 49ers haven’t done much of that either, especially lately. Also, the winners, and other top contestants, have been excellent, but I gotta say, I don’t think AI has really done enough to promote them. Last year’s winner, Caleb Johnson, just started a tour to promote his album (which AI produced), and there has been no mention of him. It would be great to see him back, along with Candice Glover, Phillip Phillips, etc. I think AI also got off track a few years ago with the judges spats and it’s become too centered on them, not the singers. In the end, American Idol has been its worst enemy.

  4. I have been faithful to this show from day one. I was really hoping that the original judges would close the Idol Stage. I know it’s not over yet but I would really like to thank this blog. Matt and Branden have been awesome. I have made some lifelong friends on this site from all over this country. I remember back in the days getting 200+ emails after the weekend. Blogging back and forth….It was really a lot of fun and I will miss this site. Well we do have one more season and maybe, just maybe there will be a real super star (Like Adam, Carrie, Kelley etc.) in the final group.

  5. I’m bummed.. 🙁 But, I was getting the feeling this was the last year. Glad we have one more!
