We might be nearly a year from the debut of X Factor, but somehow NBC managed to sneak in a brand new singing show to threaten American Idol this spring:
The [NBC] network said Monday that it will debut “The Voice of America” in the spring. Its format is based on a popular show in Holland where celebrities are paired with amateur singers in competition. The twist is that the celebrities must pick their teams based solely on hearing their voices without seeing what the contestants look like.
“Voice” certainly won’t be the only show to ever try to challenge Idol, but there’s going to be quite a pedigree behind this new show.
Mark Burnett, the father of Survivor, has teamed up with John De Mol, the father of Big Brother, to bring this reality show to life. Looks like we could have something for Nigel to be worried about, but we’ll have to wait a few more months to see.

This might not be a bad idea for a show! When I first read about Voice of America, I thought no not again, the last thing the public should have to deal with, is another singing competition reality show. But after reading the format of this show, it might be worth taking a look at!
@ Angela…Agree. Again…another wait and see…I, for one, am still waiting to hear about the voting change…if not…perhaps VOA may be the way to go. Happy Holidays 🙂
@Angela @Rose
I agree with both of you……If AI doesn't do something with the voting system and the show turns out to be a dude VOA might look pretty good. With tivos and dvrs I know I can watch both shows like million of other Americans but Nigel better start paying attention to the Public…
Happy Holidays to both of you!!!!!
Hmmm … a "talent" show where selection is based solely on "talent" and not "the package"?? Who'd a thunk it?? Here's hopin' Idol gets back on track or there may be a new Sheriff in town.
Have a truly spiffy day!! @>-;—-
I sure hope American Idol can get there stuff together. With all the up's and downs about who will be judges–people are tired of hearing it. Get Simon to give his opion!!!!!
Justin Bieber was 14-15 when he was discovered. Idol lowered their age to 15. XfactorAmerica is 14 and Voice of America is starting at 18 so no threat. Justin Bieber still wouldn't be discovered if it was up to nbc.
