A much better episode last night on American Idol 2011. I don’t know if the talent in Los Angeles was just that terrible or the producers got a clue and quit giving us the lame stupid auditions we don’t care anything about. There were a few standouts I think have a good chance of making it pretty far in the competition.
My favorite audition of the night was James Durbin who is raising a family and overcoming tourettes syndrome. You would never from his voice that he had any kind of neurological condition. I predict we will see in the top 5. I was pleasantly surprised by Clint Jun Gamboa who sang “Billionaire”. I honestly thought we were about to hear a joke audition. We get another sad story with Julie Zorilla from Columbia. Her parents left when she was 8 because of the guerilla warfare and made a better life for her here. She sings a good rendition of “Summertime” and easily makes it through to Hollywood.
I didn’t understand why squeeky voiced Emily Reed made it through even though when she played the guitar at the end it was much better than her actual audition. The American Idol judges need to get tough! Let’s hope that happens tonight in Hollywood!
Emily Reed was by far and above my fav probably so far this season. She was original. Can't wait to hear what she does.

YES!!! Emily Reed is who I will be watching as well. Her voice is so unique! She's not trying to sound like all the popular pop singers (gets so tiring hearing the same ol girl voices). Can't wait to see how she does!!!
Ashli Rae……James was my favorite last night and I also liked Julie too but my concern is that James Durbin was not on the Top 40 list….This is scaring me…..I hope that this list is wrong…I truly hate to see another rocker not make it….and this kid was good, very good….
I thought American Idol was supposed to be on for 2 hours last night
I expected 2 hours as well considering FOX.com's schedule previously showed last night's episode would be 2 hours, not 1. I guess they got ahead of themselves and then updated it to be just 1 hour.

Emily Reed was great. I listened to other songs of hers on YouTube. Maybe not American Idol but I'd buy her album.

Emily Reed is different – otherwise idol becomes a whole lot of "beautiful people" singing with karaoke voices. I agree also that James Durbin was amazing – even after all the hype he still blew me away. This show needs rock, folk, soul etc to make it interesting. Otherwise it is just a pop factory…
Steven Tyler should sing his band some theme songs near the final episode of American Idol 2011. Please announce American Idol 2012 to 2016 early. J. Low and Jackson "Dawg" should continue. Add humor to the show.
