We’ve got song spoilers for tonight’s American Idol 2012 performance show. Check out the list below for what you’ll be hearing from the remaining Top 4 finalists as part of this week’s American Idol theme: California Dreamin’ and inspirational songs or make that “songs you wish you wrote,” depending on who you ask. There will also be a couple of duets mixed in there too as FOX works to fill a full two-hours with four singers.

I just read an interview with Phillip saying they had a limited number of California songs to choose from. It shows. My guesses are:
“Have you Ever Seen the Rain” – Phillip
“Steal Away” – Joshua
“You Raise me Up” – Hollie
“Faithfully” – Jessica (she indicated she did something you wouldn’t think she would do so this makes sense over Etta James)
“And I am Telling Your” – Jessica (here she said she was singing something she had sung since she was 7)
“I Can’t Make You Love Me” – Phillip
“Volcano” – Hollie
“Its a Mans World” Joshua
Yep, it’s not an infinite list, but production claims the offer several pages for the singers to select from.

Joshua: “Steal Away” & “It’s a Man’s, Man’s, Man’s World”
I do exactly feel the same way with songs for each of them. Maybe, Jessica got an idea to sing ‘Faithfully’ being well known to many and the lead singer is Arnel Pineda (Filipino). It’s a good song especially the intro, it could be another moment for her. I don’t kinda agree that Jessica will choose ‘Steal Away’ because of the age factor. She’s too young for the message of the song although the vocal suits her genre. I don’t think the judges would like the song for her even if she would delivever a flawless rendition.
As for the 2nd song, I have a strong feeling that she’ll follow the foot steps of Jennifer Hudson. Jennifer sung “And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going’ on her CD, being a singer that Jessica admired most, she’ll take the song and proved that she got wide range vocal prowess. This song is a little bit harder than “I Will Always Love You’ because you could be out of tune if you are not good as Jessica. So I’m crossing the finger that Jessica would deliver the ‘goods’ tonite. Oh yeah!
There goes the Filipino pride again. Would you stop all these nonsense dragging of race? In the first place, even if Jessica has Filipino roots (and a fourth Mexican), it is America who raised and nurtured her and gave all the avenue to fulfill and realize her dreams. If we go with race votes then Jessica would go down the drain. Filipinos are just a small percentage of American population compared to African-American (who should vote for Joshua if this is a race vote), English-American (who should vote for Hollie), and plain American (who should go with Phillip). I could not use pure American because I think this would refer to American Indians. 🙂
Steve Perry was the lead singer when it was recorded and its his voice she’ll be compared to if she sings it.
kinda agreed to goma. I’m a Filipino, but everytime i give comment(s) to jess performances, there’s no race stuff included. Don’t you think that this is a ”crab mentality’, but one of the reasons why Jessica haters grew in the past few weeks, its because of us Filipinos that keeps dragging this Nationality and sometimes the one who usually starts BASHING other contestants…Lets just remember, this is AMERICAN IDOL not International or Filipino Idol..Admit it! That’s the reality

I am not surprised with this list, it has been consistently a lot of terrible selections right from the get go. So what’s new? What happens to making these singers sing up to date songs?

Ok I went to youtube and listened to Volcano. I hated it and said “Wait, be fair”, so I listened again. Hated it worse. Then I thought about P2 “singing” it and came to the conclusion that there is more than one naked Emperor.
I listened to it too and thought Phillip would do a great job w/it.
I don’t think any of these songs can give Hollie the moment that she need… Can I start crying now??? Let’s pray for the best for Hollie. Hollie x Jess finale!!!!

Phil is definitely singing “Have You Ever Seen the Rain”… I like Phil so much, but that was my favorite Casey song from last year… I was really hoping no one else sang that song, and I’m still REALLY hoping that if anyone, it’s NOT Phil… He’s his own person, and I’m afraid people will keep calling him “a Casey”. Ah well, tonight will be a great show!! 🙂 🙂

CCR and Damien Rice are tailor made for Phillip’s style and I can’t see any of the other three doing either of these two songs. So I am ticking those off for him.
You Raise Me Up seems as if it will be a Joshua song but I have a feeling one of the gals will do it and Joshua will go for the dramatic songs that suit his gospel, dramatic style so I think he will do Journey.
One would think Etta James would be suited for Jessica so I am giving that to her and You Raise Me Up to Hollie.
The 2nd round songs have me thinking. The majority seem to think Jessica will do the Jennifer Holliday song that was featured in Dream Girls but Hollie needs a show stopper and Jessica wants to do another tender song so would not be surprised if she did the Bonnie Raitt song.
Joshua will probably want to blast out a James Brown number so I give that to him, although either of the girls could have a show stopping moment with it. Maybe Joshua will surprise us and do Bonnie Raitt.
In other words, like most, I haven’t a clue except I am almost 100% sure of P2’s choices.
Whatever happens, I am looking forward to a good show and for the mouthpieces jokingly called “judges” to keep their comments like an asses trot – short and sweet!!
