The American Idol Judges have met the Season 14 talent as we prepare for the January 7, 2015 premiere and now Harry Connick Jr. is ready to talk about what we can expect to hear from the latest group of American Idol Hopefuls.
Speaking with USA Today the newest Idol Judge revealed that they were focused on finding singers who were more prepared for the challenge ahead this year as compared to their approach last season. Harry Connick Jr., returning alongside Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban, explained their strategy and what is different in their search for the 2015 winner.
“In the auditions, (we were) looking for kids that are more ready for what this is. There were a lot of talented kids last year (who) didn’t do that well on the show, whether it’s because of nerves or lack of experience. What we all tried to do was find kids that would be more ready for the American Idol experience… If you’re going to be an entertainer, you have to be able to perform on cue.”
Harry goes on to explain how they were looking for more fun from the contestants. “Some of it boils to straight-up personality. I can think of a few kids that are just goofballs and they love to have fun. We didn’t have whole lot of that last year, kids that give you unexpected answers.”
Okay, so it sounds like FOX, producers, and the Judges have picked a group that’s more TV-ready, but will that translate to better singers, an improved winner, and mostly important, a solid experience for viewers? We’re about to find out!
