MacKenzie Bourg was not one of the four contestants chosen by the American Idol judges to advance automatically to the Top 10 this season. Instead, he had to rely on America’s votes to move him forward. After the fans gifted him with enough votes to make it, MacKenzie rewarded them with an absolutely stellar Top 10 round performance.
Apparently American Idol has the rights to air every Ed Sheeran original or cover song ever recorded, because there are a LOT of them this season. However, when we hear something like MacKenzie Bourg absolutely rocking “I See Fire,” we don’t’ really mind so much. We really think it was one of the best performances of the Top 10 round, and the American Idol judges seemed to agree.
Original American Idol winner and guest judge Kelly Clarkson told MacKenzie he even got her unborn baby kicking along to the beat during that song! She said she really loves that MacKenzie already knows who we wants to be as an artist. Harry Connick Jr. and Keith Urban also express their appreciation for the young singer’s excellent performance. Jennifer Lopez told MacKenzie he is ready to be up there on that stage, and she’s excited for him!
