We can all breathe a sigh of relief now as the Top Ten guys performed so much better for week 2 of American Idol Season 9.
Idol pulled a switcheroo on us and the guys performed tonight because Crystal Bowersox was taken to the hospital this morning due to an illness. She is set to perform Wednesday. Some websites are reporting her illness was due to having Type I diabetes. No official word on her condition has been released.
Big Mike Lynche was up first and sang “This is a Man’s World” by James Brown. He went to a performing arts high school and is big into theatre. I thought he stepped up this week and gave a stunning performance. Randy gave him a standing ovation and all the judges agreed he chose the right song for himself.
John Park – explained that English is his second language. He sang “Gravity” by John Mayer and I thought it was much better than last week. The judges didn’t agree however and Simon said that John’s group Purple Haze would get their singer back this week.
Casey James – you all know I love me some Casey. He sang “I Don’t Wanna Be” by Gavin Degraw and even though there were some pitchy places in the song, it was still a good act. He plays a mean electric guitar but I think he should stick to his southern rock because like Simon said, he had no grit and I do agree with that. He can still serenade me anytime.
Alex Lambert – bad case of the nerves. He threw up before singing last week but faired better this go around. His song was John Legend’s “Everybody Knows” and I wasn’t impressed. His voice sounded weird and it just wasn’t right for me. The judges disagreed and all said they liked it and Kara said he had a great tone and a recordable voice. I didn’t get it at all.
Todrick Hall – most people will not agree with me but I liked his version of Tina Turner’s “What’s Love Got to do With It”. He can sing and perform well and I thought the judges were much too harsh on the guy. They want the contestants to change the songs and make them their own which is what Todrick does but then he gets blasted for it. I doubt he will be around next week but I’m hoping he gets the votes.
Jermaine Sellers – He may not have a great voice but he can always break out into comedy. I loved his onesie and when he asked Simon to go to church with him and then Simon agreed? I was laughing. He sang Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On” which was not a good choice. If you are gonna take on the great Marvin Gaye, you better have the goods to back it up. That is one of the most popular pop songs of all times and he couldn’t deliver it. Simon said he watered it down. I do like this kid and hope he is around another week.
Andrew Garcia is the big disappointment of the week. I was expecting so much more from this guy but his song “You Give Me Something” by James Morrison was way off. He hasn’t picked the right song in two weeks and Simon thinks this is a problem. Perhaps he should do some of that break dancing on stage next week to add to his performance.
Aaron Kelly has the tween vote for sure but his rendition of “My Girl” by the temptations was way too old fashioned. This guy needs to pick a style that is modern and relevant to today’s culture and go with it. It was all over the place for me and he needs to step it up next week. He did show much more confidence with this piece but that is not enough to win.
Tim Urban – What a mess. I feel sorry for this guy because he doesn’t have what it takes to be a singer. I agree with Ellen, he would be great on the cast of Glee. Simon however takes a totally different approach and praises Tim. He likes his attitude and thought he was much better than last week. Simon, you got this one wrong. He may have a good attitude but the guy doesn’t deserve to be in the competition.
Lee Dewyze was by far the best of the night. I loved his song “Lips of an Angel” by Hinder. He did have some pitch problems especially on the chorus but the guy is a rocker and he can jam. I am impressed with him the most and starting to think he is the one to beat.
What guys did you think stepped up this week and made the necessary improvements to stay in the competition?
I love Lee Dewyze. He was my favorite guy contestant from the first night of Idol. Not only does he have an amazing voice, he is so sexy 😉
I am very disappointed with most of the performances this week as I was last week. The only performance I enjoyed was “this is a man’s world from Big Mike. My daughter loves that song and she’s 7. As for everyone else, what is up with them? I am especially concerned about Andrew…what happened?

I personally think all the comments from you as fans I don’t know if you got the rights to judge anyone buy their looks, how sexy they are etc.. have to realize it isn’t about these qualities it is totally about how they perform to be the star. In my personal opinion the following guys that did great were Casey, Lee, Andrew, Tim and Todrick. Whether or not you feel this way about the following contestants they did great. I personally do think Simon has the right to judge Casey because he is one of the best performers to make it all the way. Look at when simon said Taylor Hicks wasn’t going to make that far and he was totally wrong because Taylor was the winner. So you can’t always take the judges stand point about who is and isn’t going to make it. It is all about the fans who they want to make it.
I thought Big Mike was by far the best performer of the night. The judges were right with their praise. Toddrick Hall deserves better. He changes songs up to “make it his own” and judges complain. I agree with Ellen he should play to his strength, which is dancing. Hope he is around next week and if so should consider performing Prince’s “Baby, I’m a Star”. That song would allow him to showcase his dancing and demonstrate self confidence through the lyrics.
Looking forward to Wednesday’s show and hope Crystal Bowersox is ok to perform. Overall she is the best performer in the competition.
Unfortunately I just can watch the show in youtube and was not posted complete 🙁 i missed some of the guys but saw the last clip showing all of them singing and in my opinion Big Mike and Lee Dewyze were the best of the night. Very dissapointed on Andrew Garcia 🙁 he cant find his path as judges said he has to find that spark he gave with Paula Abdul’s song, otherwise sadly he will be going home soon.

I totally agree with Ellen. He put the bar very high with the Paula song. But come on guys, these two last songs wasn’t bad ! If the jury was more positive, i’m pretty sure people too.
I think they all still suck so what there was one good guy this week out of ten whats up with that. well i gave them another shot and they still disapointed me so I am not watching the girls or for the rest of the season. American Idol is history to me. Thats ashame it was my favorite show.
I don’t understand why Tim Urban and Jermaine are still there. Both are terrible.
I still like Michael Lynche and after last nights performance I also like Lee Dewyze and he does have sexy eyes. Casey put too much emphasis on his guitar instead of his singing.
Kori..You asked if Kara was drunk. I think she is just plain rude. She uses the desk to hold herself up. This goes along with her rude way of talking. I’m tired of seeing her perform her head slide everytime she speaks.
I can’t stand Kara’s head slide either. I think she tries to be cool and she isn’t, she has no neck o rjust sits so slouched that you can’t tell. She is just ruining the show. I never thought I would miss Paula but I do…I feel bad that Idol lost it’s spark but it did and it’s just not the same anymore…pretty boring but I will probably watch it anyway!
I am sorry to say, but Jermaine needs to take English lessons if he wants to be a star. That speak does not work on stage before millions…He “axed” me and slang make him sound totally uneducatred.
Watch – for a few I had to close my eyes to listen to the voices. Love Lee the best, and second Aaron. Reminds me of the Canadian Idol JT. So shy at first but each week so much better. Love to see them take to heart the advice. Hate it when they question the comments.
Vastly improved performances over last week by the males. Let’s hope the females do the same.

Best performers for me last night were Aaron Kelly, Michael Lynche, and surprisingly Alex Lambert, but maybe it’s just cuz it was a huge improvement from last week.
Keep an eye on the Lambert kid. If he survives and makes it to the Top 12, he may sneak his way up the ranks and become this year’s dark horse. Kris Allen did the exact same thing.
I Agree. Lee was the best profromer of last night American Idol. When the judges were commenting about him, he looked so cute & innocent.
And Alex did awesome as well! they both became my fav of this season 9. I wish them all the best! ^_^
Lee Dewyze is the best singer here, no doubt. He really is a natural talent.
Would someone please tell me why Kara has been stuck so far up Simon’s butt lately. Please watch how she acts tonight, it’s really disgusting. She has been sitting really close to him and touching him constantly. she stares at him like shes in love when he talks.

I try hard not to watch Kara because I can’t stand her on that show but yes, saw how she has been acting to Simon and made that comment that he doesn’t return her calls…haha! I think when Simon leaves they should replace him with Kid Rock and then get rid of Kara and replace her with maybe a female country singer to have a different take on things. Maybe Idols ended up in that genre of music so it might be a good idea. Not sure who though…someone with a good history like maybe Reba?
@henry “Uneducated” The irony of judgement is that it is implicit of someone who never understand themselves or others. Maybe if we were all not so hypercritical we would not care about peoples nuances and personal style and get to enjoy some music. Ive seen live acts who have horrible voices but I still enjoy the experience, Im proud of all these contestants for making it as far as they have, if your jealous your not on there go take a bubble bath and take some voice lessons, honor the people you think are amazing and refrain from criticism unless its constructive.
I like Lee and Casey of the guys and Siobhan and Didi of the girls. Ryan gets on my nerves! When he plays his little spat games with Simon – it gets old. I wish he’d just host the show and leave his little comments to Simon out. It’s distracting and makes him look foolish.

The show this year is absolutely positively HORRIFIC!!!! Contestants need producers help in choosing the right song to perform. The talent level is really below par this year…with the exception of Bowersocks. (she’ll win…obviously). Shows a real DUD this year!!!!! Simon cares only about himself and the success of his new show “The “X” factor. The ratings this year will be the worst ever.

I can see the last two men standing…..Big Mike and Lee Dewyze. Both very strong vocally and both I would enjoy to hear on the radio and I don’t ever buy cd’s but I would for these two as well as Crystal Bowersocks. Just waiting for the albums to hit the shelves.
There were a LOT of weak performances for the guys. How is that John Park, Todrick Hall, Jermaine Sellers, and Tim Urban (especially) still here or even in the top 10?! And that is being nice to Alex Lambert. So basically half the guys should even be on? At least the other half are pretty good. This week Casey knew he would blow by, so he basically took the week off and had fun with his guitar, not really caring to impress (he’s earned it). Andrew disappointed, but I think last week’s performance was actually good. He has tons of talent but needs the right songs to showcase it. Aaron has the chops as well, but again needs the right songs. He will be the first gone out of the top 5 (and they will say he needs more experience to win it…and they are right…he looks scared and embarrassed on stage). Lee can be recorded today. He has a great voice and has chosen good songs. It’s a tossup between Casey and Lee for me (though I have to give Lee the edge because Casey doesn’t have grit..lol). Big Mike was on the edge for me before (thinking they just hyped him up because of his story and story alone)…but this week’s performance put him in the top 5 for sure and gives him a chance. In the end, we have 5 solid guys: Lee, Casey, Mike, Andrew and Aaron…and in that order.
It’s like this year’s fantasy draft for baseball…the top 2 are a tossup (pujols and hanley), then there is a big dropoff…then the next 3 are interchangeable (Arod, Utley, Braun)….Ironic.

The girls are WAY better then the guys that’s for sure. I like Siobhan the best, she is cute, funny, can sing and is just herself!!! Crystal can sing but there is something off about her, not sure what though but she certainly has mystery about her. Haley needs to go home she is totally annoying. I have a feeling Crystal will win the whole thing though this year…I agree that Simon really shows that he is done with Idol. He just acts totally bored and like he is just hoping the time flies by for his next show…I am sure it will be awesome but for now he can act like he still cares about this yrs idol. I think Kara is jealous that Paula will be on his show and she will be left in the dust so she is trying to suck up to him.
Alright here is how I view American Idol: I honestly think that it is going to be a guy year. The guys seem much more head strong than the girls. I do enjoy watching Crystal out of the girls and that is it- she is original, unique, and has a presence that makes you want to keep watching to see what she will do next. I enjoy Big Mike, Todrick, Lee, and of course Casey- these guys have amazing stage presence. Overall, I think Idol is going to be a great year-but it is going to be interesting to see who will be the next American Idol. I am partial I have loved Lee and Todrick since there auditions so I hope to see one of them take it all the way!

My male rankings and predictions:
1. Lee (I heart him! and his voice!)
2. Big Mike- way to bring the soul!
3. Alex- love his voice, if you shut your eyes- amazing!
4. Andrew G- I love that song but hated how he sang it! He was so stiff and sounded so unconnected- why Andrew why??! come back!
5. Aaron- hated the song choice but think he could be great.
6. Todrick- I think he seems too stiff and “practiced”.
7. John Park- love him but he is forgetable
8. Casey James- He was way better last week but he just reminds me of every other long haired dude that has been on Idol (a 100 times better looking Buckey).
Going home predictions:
9. Jermaine- I think he is funny but he is coming off as a diva…. also, that song is all about social commentary and he sang it like a elevator music crooner song and should have had a scotch on the rocks in one hand. Really? No.
10. Tim- so cute- totally think he should be on the disney channel (and like Ellen said) not singing!! But he had one of the better song choices of the night.
i love mike lynche and casey james and I really think alex lambert has potential. He sounds a lot like brett dennen, so if he can get rid of his nerves, I think he has a shot. Tim Urban needs to go.
I think Jermaine and Tim are going home of the guys and then Haley for sure and prob the red headed girl (forgot her name at the moment). I miss seeing people like David Cook, Daughtery, Carrie, Blake Lewis, Bo Bice and ones who made it interesting yet were good performers as well. This yr just doesn’t stack up but still a fan of the show!!!
My personal favs this week were Big Mike and Lee Dewyze. Alex Lambert has a unique voice that I could hear on the radio. Anyone else think that Simon praised Tim Urban’s song because the “vote for the worst” people are at it again like they were with Sanjay? His comments surprised me and that’s the first thought I had – he knows they vote opposite to what he thinks in a performance. Tim looks like a nice huggable guy but really lacks in the singing department (sorry Tim).
I noticed Kara all up on simon 2!!! Its so annoying!! I think its some tension between Her and ellen. I think she doesnt respect ellen. She thinks shes above her bcuz she is in da biz. I cant stand her.she loves to hate! She’s hateriffic!!!
I expect John Park and Jermaine Sellers to be gone. John is so forgettable every time and I don’t see anyone voting. Jermaine is a whiny diva and disrespected any serious religious people watching the show (it was like watching someone hang themself with every single word that came out of his mouth…he is an idiot).
Tim probably stays for 2 reasons: 1) big jump up over last week’s song 2) VFTW support
Todrick will be gone not too far after. He is neither a singer nor a dancer…just a bit of both and becomes whiny at times as well.
After reading all the above – I agree most with Tom. I love the grit Lee has in his voice. It reminds me of Daughtry. Siobhan blew it away last night – she is so good. I agree with many of you about Kara and Simon. Isn’t she married?? What’s up with her? I love Ellen on there. Always love Randy. Ryan Seacrist is SO annoying. I wish they’d replace him.
Seacrest has a contract they can’t break…unfortunately. Ellen, I think, is awesome. She is fresh and funny. And it’s not like the “professionals” add anything “professional”…so mines well add a funny, bright spot on the show to detract from the boring negativity.
@John – Yes I agree with you about Jermaine Sellers. He actually was a finalist in a gospel song competition show “Sunday Best” on BET.

Well I was right on one girl and one guy who went home but I really think that Tim should have went before John. And I think that DiDi and that red head are worse then Michelle who got sent home. I think Lee/Casey will be the last 2 guys left and Crystal/Siobhan will be the last 2 girls left… I would love to see them have a Journey night, the were a great band, popular songs back in the 80’s and even today, plus Randy was in the band so that would be a good pick for songs and they should show old clips of him playing.Some song suggests I have for hte guys: I would like to see Mike sing maybe a Lionel Richie song.Lee should sing a Nickelback song. Casey should try a Rascal Flatts tune. Just my opinion!
