American Idol 2012 Top 7 finalists

The American Idol 2012 Top 7 finalists were revealed last night when DeAndre Brackensick was eliminated from the competition. Elise Testone and Hollie Cavanagh joined DeAndre before being sent back to safety. After surviving several weeks in the Bottom 3 and at the bottom of our weekly polls it may have been a disappointment to his fans, but most viewers probably weren’t surprised.

Next week on American Idol the remaining singers will take the stage to perform… we don’t know yet. Typically the following week’s theme is revealed by now, but Idol is staying tight lipped on what they’ll be doing. That could mean negotiations are still taking place to use a particular artist’s catalog or it could just mean FOX is dragging its feet. Once we find out more we’ll pass along those details.

Update: Reader Patrick alerted us to Nigel finally revealing this week’s theme: “this decade.” That means it’ll be songs from 2010/2011/2012. You can’t get more modern than that. Nice selection. The mentor will be Akon. Hopefully he won’t throw anyone off the stage.

  4. IM rooting for Jessica and my reasons are: Love her vocal range, Shes not pitchy like Hollie , Elise and Colton, Shes not oversinging the song like Joshua and Skylar, and not an epileptic singer like Philips Philips.. :))

    • Not nice to say about any of them. Jessica has been as pitchy as the rest of them even if the judges haven’t called her on it. Also much of the pitchyness is the result of the contestants changing the melody as part of putting their own spin on the songs they’re singing and not actually true pitch problems. Jessica tries to sing each song exactly as the original artist and is a judges favorite so when she is pitchy she’s really pitchy but the judges let her slide while slamming the other contestants that they are less fond of even though they’re not really off pitch.

      • 100% true. she is very talented like the rest and also like the rest gets pitchy at times. this top 7 is all good its just a matter of who steps up. i hope everyone remembers this is just one site and the polls on here dont count she might not be getting as many votes as you all may think’

      • To Bobaloca; Of course I have to respect your opinion. It’s your right to have it and express it. I do respect it but I disagree with it and I think I expressed that in a respectful manner.  

      • If you can be objective about this then you may be able to admit to yourself that Jessica and Joshua are the two contestants who have been really pitch perfect in this competition.

      • To iurqal: As I’ve already stated, Jessica has been as pitchy as the rest of the contestants and that’s how I see it. As for joshua, since he screams and screeches through the second half of every song, he could only be considered one of the most pitchy rather than least since he’s nowhere near the melody of the song or any melody at all actually during those times. You’re entitled to your opinion and I’m entitled to mine. I think I am being objective seeing as I have attributed ‘pitchyness’ to all the contestants not just to everyone but my favorites so I don’t think there’s anything I need to ‘Admit to myself’.

      • To Ajayapomoy: That may the one exception assuming she wasn’t doing someone else’s cover of that song. I thought I heard it might be a Mariah cover that she did that night. If so, my statement stands. If not, then I’m wrong about that one but not the rest.

      • oows, Have you heard the original version of Billy Joel’s Everybody Has A Dream compared to Jessica’s rendition of the song? Her version of Beyonce’s Sweet Dreams? Beyonce hasn’t done that on any of her past concerts..

      • Jessica’s pitch problems mostly rear their ugly head on the ooohs and aaaahs during the song. She is not good at that at all. Also she needs to learn more breathing control. She gets out of breath a lot. That could just be tensing up because of nerves…IDK

      • I dont understand this issue about jessica merely copying the orig artists! Her interpretation of sweet dreams is far from beyonce’s version. And what about billy joel’s song! Of course, there are songs that you really have to stick with its orig version otherwise, its not gonna turn out good. And that’s an atribute of a true artist – knowing when and when not to change a song! So please, stop that non sense alright?! You cant really put a good talent down, because it glaring that jessica got it. And just like what randy said “a star is really born”! 🙂

      • that’s not true Shadrac.  Better clear your eardrum before writing comment like that.  Jessica is one of the best.  Very natural singer… she’s not trying so hard to get to her top note… 

      • Jessica has been called pitchy several time by the judges. Steven Tyler told her she was pitchy. And Randy agreed! Then JLO quitely agreed too. Maybe she has not been as pitchy as some of the others . But she has been pitchy.It’s go to be interesting who really steps up to the plate and is perfect! The little tiny blond girl. Is her name Holly?  I heard her when she went off key!  And then she just stayed off key. Oh well someone has to keep going home until we get a winner.

      • Everyone is entitled for their own opinions …..but I would say that she’s not trying to imitate others voice , come on! She has taste for song!, she controlled everything, restraint and flavor ,  “Everybody has a Dream ” performance is the best example for that… Phillip Phillips is like Dave matthews, moves like Dave Matthews, Shouts like Dave Matthews,growls like Dave Matthews,with guitar like Dave Matthews, in shorthes obssessed with Dave Matthews!!, Colton Dixon – boys band vocalist like Simple Plan, Paramore (my brother can sing better than him), Skylar – I know lot of country singer (friends) who sing better than her) Hollie – crap..I dont know what to say ..karaoke singer? (bad to say this but shes so pitchy , nasal voice all over!), Joshua Ledet – though I love him everytime I listened to him I felt like I went to pilgrimage, Elise- I love her too (hoping theres something more from her.

      • Oh yeah 1 more , do you know that Jessica suffers vocal fatigue?! most of the time! On her performance of “Love you I do and How will I know ”  I could feel  the tiredness on her voice (if you are  truly objective, yeah you would say the same thing! ) and thats the reason why she went pitchy but despite of that she remains on the top and strongest contender to beat! 

      • Jessica has a quality of voice ever…Very originality. You deserve to win of this season 11. Jessica is no comparison!!!

    • I was rooting for philip but not anymore. Yes he is original, i commend him for that. but he does exactly the same every week! Now, i’ll go with Jessica, versatility is really with her, standing O or not she is consistent compared to other contestants.. here’s my rank.

    • hahaha… you’re so mean, but i like ur comment 🙂 I like PP but i do not like the way he sings, really really weird. I’d like to try to enjoy every performance he does but  his body language is so eerie, he looks like he’s gonna have a heart attack…

    • Heis not epileptic. That’s not nice to say that. He is just a spase. If you had a brother and he was a spase would you like it if people called him Epileptic??

I’m at about mile 21 in the indifference marathon.  The song lists are dreadful, the stylist is just as bad.  The chorus often overwhelms the vocalist and the voting policy sucks.  People keep saying they don’t know what kind of artist this one or that one is going to be.  Let them sing whatever they want and you’ll know what kind of artist they want to be.

    • Agree 100% about chorus (and instruments) often overwhelming particular singers! We just want to hear that beautiful voice!

      • I am wishing for an all acapella week. Or even a week where only one instrument would accompany each contestant, and no backup singers will be provided.  That way, we can see for ourselves how their voices will hold up without the embellishments, and who’s pitchy and who’s not.

    • I definitely agree that the chorus OFTEN overpowers the singers…I say let them sing what THEY want to sing..how many of those KIDS up there even knew these songs from the 80’s…why are they making them do such old songs? If someone is a country singer, let them do their best at country, if someone is a blues singer, let them do their best blues, and on and on and on..then we can truly see what kind of artist they will be.

    • Yes, the theme nights need to go!  The themes are awful!  Who cares if the kids can’t sing rock or something else?  If they go into the recording world with a contract, they are going to sing the kind of songs they like, not what some producer thinks they should sing.  Could JLo sing country? Probably not, but who cares? That’s not her genre.

  6. My guess it will be show tunes…. if I remember right from last year. That is the show that won David Cook he sang something from Phantom of the Opera. If my memory serves me right.

  7. Colton, Jessica and Skylar bottom 3 they all have great voices. Next week I think it will be either Joshau or Elise who will go home.

    • Performances will decide things next week. If Hollie and Elise have good performances they’ll both be safe. If either one of them has a bad or even just ok performance, they’ll likely be the one singing for the save.

I think Hollie and Elise are the next 2 to go.  I’d be happy with any of the other 5 winning.  Back in top 24/top 13 week I thought Hollie was the best.  She and Skylar are still my 2 personal favorites, but I want the one’s who’ve done the best to win.  Jessica and Colton haven’t had a bad week yet IMO.  The other 3 have each had 1.  Hollie and Elise have had a couple of off nights. 

    • Jessica has had at least one bad week (‘ Turn the Beat Around) and a few others that were only so so. I’m still waiting for Colton to have a great week (Only ‘Piano Man’ came close). He’s had several bad weeks but the judges have praised him anyway. Elise has had two really bad performances but Hollie had great performances in the beginning than has just missed the mark in the last few weeks but hasn’t actually had a truly bad performance yet.

      • First off I like the reasonable reply.  You’re making your case w/out resorting to names & such.  So on that aspect of things, thanx.

        I’m no music expert, so I’m not saying my opinions are any better/worse than the next persons.  I actually agree w/ ya on Hollie. She was my #1 the first week and maybe even the 2nd. 

        I’m not whipped on Jessica like some of her fans are.  I just have her #1 cuz I haven’t seen any glaring blowouts.  I actually thought the 3rd performance of hers was better than the first two.  Her singing maybe wasn’t quite as good, but she didn’t have the built in excuse (her voice problems) or that “I’m taking a risk” comment. 

        I’m more going sorta like they do in college football.  The BCS might be bunk, but week to week rankings are generally ok.  A team can win 42-6, 35-3, etc & climb the rankings.  If they lose though, even if they follow up with big wins, they usually can’t get thier ranking back until a team ahead of em loses. 

        Whether someone won or lost, except in rare cases, that’s tough to tell.  I thought Phillip lost this week.  A lot of his fans would disagree. 

        I hope I’m being nuetral in all this.  I like Hollie better than Jessica.  In my mind though, Hollie would have to be better than her twice, AND they’d have to be bad performances by Jessica, for Hollie to pass her.

        Last but not least, I’m not even saying I’m right. I’m no music expert.  Until week 9 I didn’t even enjoy this season.  I was watching it more cuz I had watched it for so many years.

      • To Laudemhir: Despite finishing number one in the poll, her performance was almost universally declared a trainwreck everywhere else and by many on this site. Also, her victory was very narrow that week as I recall as opposed to her normal landslide finishes.

      • I think the timing of when you have a bad week is important.  If you have it early on in the competition, then you have good chances of recovering, because there are other bad performances to choose from. However, when you do badly on the latter stages when most of those who are left are the good ones, then you’re in trouble.  

        Also, what you do after a bad performance is very important. Jessica did really good after Turn the Beat Around, and Skylar gave a standout performance after being in the bottom 3.  Joshua also came back strong  after that forgettable Billy Joel performance. And they have all been rewarded for their efforts.

        On the other hand, Hollie has had so-so performances and stuck to ballads for so long.  When she decided to go up tempo it wasn’t even that great.  So there’s the difference. 

      • You have a point but Hollie is still there so she still has a chance to turn things around. Also, I think her performance this week was better recieved than most think since she not only survived but wasn’t even in the bottom two. At this point, a bad performance could be disastrous to any of them including Jessica.

      • Jessica has no bad week. only the judges just did not like the fast-beat “Turn the beat around”. But she still performed really good and the polls here in that week revealed, she was still the front-runner…

  11. So, there’s no theme yet, huh?

    I hope the theme next week is “Inspirational” or “Songs from the Cinema.”

    It’s fine by me if they choose “Billboard #1 hits”, “Michael Jackson” or “Lennon-McCartney Songbook”

    Themes to Avoid (although some people might disagree with me): Rolling Stones, Motown, Frank Sinatra (can you spell borefest?).

    • Stones and Sinatra I agree with, but Motown was without a doubt the best era of music ever. Might not be prudent to make the contestants sing songs from 50 years ago, and sense it would probably only fit one contestants style, Joshua, but Motown. So, after saying that, your probably wright on all three of those. Ha. I still love Motown tho.

      • I wouldn’t mind songs from the movies but let the singers pick any song from any film.  If Joshua wants to sing As Time Goes By, fine.  Or if JSan wants to do a Disney theme. let her.  Let them be who they want to be.

  14. i will probably go with elise i think she has a unique voice apart from her the rest are awful colton sings emotionless and sounds like crap all the time, skylar is always out of breath all the time ,phillip is just horrible he sound like he is in pain all the time,joshua keeps screeming all the time hollie is pitchy and all over the place jessica is good but not a standout this season isreally awful i dont really care who wins 

    • Excellent review of what’s out there for our ears and eyes. Colton is too busy playing the Jesus card for me to root for; Phillip was so needy when they were in Hollywood week and in Las Vegas. Now that he has survived, he’s playing kiss my royal patootie. He doesn’t sing–he’s in oral pain and if he doesn’t cling onto that guitar, he looks pouty. The judges have it all wrong this season. For them, bad has become good and good has become bad. AND what are they talking about when they use the word “pitch”?  I’d love for all three judges to give a lesson in being pitchy. All they’d have to do is sing. Can you believe Steven Tyler hasn’t made a career off of being pitchy? And did you hear JLO pitching her new video. Yet they have the nerve to attack Elise and Hollie. I hope the public doesn’t let them get away from it. I thought it was tacky last night when Jennifer and Randy said American got it half right about the bottom two. That was nasty and shows they’re playing favorites. JLo should have her head rescrewed to think that DeDandre and Joshua are God’s greatest gifts to singing. Come to think of it–what’s so precious about her singing?

      • I’d go along with much of what you say, with these added remarks.  When JLo and Randy said they got the bottom 2 half right, JLo meant Dre shouldn’t be there and Randy meant Elise shouldn’t.  Also, about pitch, Steven Tyler has perfect pitch and is a classically trained musician.  Bad habit history aside, he is the most qualified of the 3 judges.

      • i also agree with you on this one jlo cant sing at all i think this season will have the worst winner if colton or phillip wins the will just get lost in the music industry and am aslo surprise at that jimmy he says colton and phillip is the best really that man is just dumb,elise will pick her self up and will put herself on top again.i will buy anything of elise even if she cough i will buy lol

      • Squeeze in again.To Templar. Sorry. Steven Tyler is the best judge there! But have you seen how JLO cuts him off. He was saying something to Deandre and she just butted in and started talking. Poor Steven I don’t think he knows what to do. He is too quiet. He needs to just talk over her or Randy. A lot of times Ryan has to say ” Steven what did you think?

         Yes he may have had bad habits. But he is truly trying to get off of them. He has a nice fiance. If anyone really wants to know what the real Steven Tyler is like read his book. “Can you hear the noise in my head. ” He has had noises running thru his head since he was a little boy.

Seriously though folks, the only thing that helps Phillip is that he is from the South.  I am going by the past of American Idol.  Southern is good, religious is good, Southern and religious rocks the boat or should I say vote.  Doing the calculations it makes Colton win the whole thing.  I think he will sing against Jessica..don’t know where she lives, oops.

    • Joshua, Hollie and Skylar are southern and religious as well. For all we know, Phillip could be religious too. If so, they would all be equal under your argument. Colton being more outspoken doesn’t automatically earn him the Christian vote. In fact, it may hurt him if it looks like he’s pandering for votes.

      • That’s a question only he knows the answer to. I do however believe that if he were pandering he would have been called out on it by now by a past enemy or a jealous acquaintance. You always have those type of people lurking around ready to take you down when you are gaining success. 

  20. I think it’s a very talented top 7. And there’s a good variety of styles to appeal to many different people. I think AI and America got it wright. Congrats to all of them!

Question of the day:  Who, of the Top 7, would THE JUDGES consider “non-save worthy?”  I’m thinking there’s only Hollie & Elise, as they’re both picked-on weekly by the judges and both have been in the bottom 3 multiple times.  After next week the save becomes pretty much meaningless anyway… They’ll either use it or they won’t and if they don’t, it will definately be used the following week.  As we all know, it’s only in play until the Top 5.

    • i dont believe they will use it for Hollie which is sad
      but I believe they will use it for Elsie, which is also sad 🙂

    • They have to use it next week or the week after and I think it will be next week because two go home the following week and that would leave the top 5.

      If they leave it for the final chance – top 6 week – then the following week two will go leaving us with the top 4.

      Whatever they do, it will be interesting and if the Southern power vote continues, don’t be surprised if Jessica is in the bottom 3 next week or the week after.

      That, in my opinion, is what Steve & Randy are guarding against because they know the voting trends and have seen the non-Southern contestants voted off week after week.

      5 Southerners + the import from the UK – Hollie – were in the top 13 and all are still in the top 7 with Jessica being the odd one out from California. 

      Trends and Stats speak for themselves and it has been admitted by AT&T and AI that the Southern teen vote dominates.

         

      • Elise was born in New Jersey I believe but Lives in one of the Carolinas now so she’s not really a southerner.

  23. First i have to say, I really like Kellie Pickler, she is such a doll. but i am a country music fan, but if I wasn’t how could you not love her.  so cute and sweet and talented.  although I did not think her song was such  a great choice, but oh well

  25. Jessica has proved to be the most versatile contestant.   But she needs to sing bigger songs or more melodic songs to show off  her vocal range.  It will  be a piece of cake for her to do bigger songs.    But I wonder why was she holding back in the last couple weeks ? ? ? ?   She cannot keep holding back or else she will be put to the bottom.   

    Judges had been pounding on Elise and Hollie for weeks for being pitchy, they never ever said Phillip or Colton were pitchy.    Phillip was not comfortable doing the duet without his guitar, his body language said it all.    He also promised that he is who he is, he is not going to change anything to please anybody else, such as  shaking their hands on the stage. 

    These guys could do no wrong in the eyes of the judges.  That could hurt them eventually.    

    Save card will be used for :   Joshua, Colton or Phillip or Jessica

    But not for   : Elise,  Hollie  (not judges favorites)

    • I wonder where you’re gonna put Skylar on those two options… 

      Anyway, I agree with you on that. Jessica is kind of holding back from singing big songs. I was thinking about this for a little while but I guess she’s not holding back big time. She just wants to let people know that she can also do justice with songs that doesn’t need a lot of belting. 

      I hope that I can see Jessica sing a soulful song that is not too slow or upbeat. Just enough for her to show her vocal range in a beautiful way. I saw that many times in her Youtube channel before.

      We still don’t know what they are going to sing but I know that Jessica can swag it up!

      AMERICA, don’t stop believing in Jessica and continue to support her all the way to the top!

  27. A lot of people here are fighting about pitchy contestant.  First of all, have you watch live concerts? I don’t think so? of even in Tv live shows?  To those who says Jessica is pitchy too, clean your ears. Shen is the only one that has been consistent singing flawlessly.  She picked songs that are harder to sing than any conterstant.  If you give that song to rest of them, do you think they can sing that song same thing like Jessica?  I thought so too. so think before you say something.  I watched idol and love them but this time jessica stands out since season 1 comparison.  Even Carrie Underwood was so pitchy at first but she made it through all the way because she learns.  I blame the judges for not saying what exactly should be done to be a great singer.  They should tellPhillips to dropthe guitar instead of backing him up.  It will damage him at the end.  Being a performer doesnt have to be in guitar all the time and standing in same position.  In concert people will be leaving the show and will have stiff neck.  You do not have to be a great dancer to be an artist.  Sure will help but Jessica will get there.  She is only 16 people.  For the record, Jessicas songs in studiop version are all outstanding. I can listen to it over and over again and not getting tired of her voice not like the rest.  Capiched!!!  Stay Strong Jessica!!!! Don’t worry we are supporting you 200% all the way.  How bout you have you supported your idol since day 1?  I doubt it.

    • Maybe you shouldn’t be looking for fleas on someone else’s dog.  Use spell check and learn spacing, spelling, punctuation, tense, syntax and grammar before you criticize anyone else.

      • He was just trying to type to fast.Bojie 586. We are all guilty of that at times. Sometimes the head thinks faster than the fingers can type!   He sure did have a lot to say. I didn’t read it all. Too much to do that.

    • Hollie has picked much more difficult songs than Jessica. Christine Aguilara and Celine Dion are much harder to sing than Whitney  and Beyonce. Even Irene Cara was a more difficult choice than those two. Hollie nailed Whitney without even trying. Gloria Estevan may be the most difficult artist she’s taken on and she failed miserably. Elise, Skylar, Joshua, and even Deandre have done more difficult and risky songs then she has. 

      • To iurqal: It looked pretty effortless to me and frankly Whitney isn’t that hard to sing. Her songs have minimul rang with no real hard notes and by hard notes I mean high notes that have to be held for a long time. listen to any of her songs and you’ll see that she hits the high notes for a split second then immediately goes up and down her primary range real fast in what I call the Whitney trill. It’s not hard to do and makes it seem like her voice is more powerful than it really is. No disrespect for Whitney intended. She was a great artist but her music isn’t vocally difficult to sing.

      • To dengS19: There’s denying that Jessica seems to be the one to beat right now but that has nothing to do with my post. It doesn’t change the fact that other contestants and escpecially Hollie have picked harder songs to sing than she has.
        However since you brought it up, last year at this time, James Durban was considered the one to beat. How did that turn out?

      • Whatever.  I didnt even mentioned Hollie’s name, don’t know why you think I’m talking about her.  All I can say is good luck to Hollie then.  Oh by the way for your ske she is the the best in this competion so far.  And of course she has the hardest song compared to everyone.  I hope that makes you happy now.

      • Well I guess, based on your opinions, Hollie should be crowned as american idol because she picked harder songs than Jessica.  We should tell that to the judges so it will be fair. Don’t you think so.  Or I suggest to Jimmy Lovine.

      • All the Man I Need was Hollie’s best performance to date because it LOOKED effortless when in fact it wasn’t.  Really good singers put in a lot of hours of practice to perfect a performance so that when they get to the actual stage they do not have to worry about anything because they already know that they can sing the song the way they wanted to. That’s why it looks effortless, and the singers can enjoy what they are doing and concentrate on interacting with their audience.

        I am not saying that Hollie does not practice enough, but I think she does not have enough confidence in  her ability to pull off a performance so that when she actually performs, you can see that she is overthinking, and not really enjoying what she’s doing.  And if it’s the judges that caused her to lose confidence in herself, then she should fight back in order to show them what she’s got.

        And yes, she has done very difficult songs, but she has fallen short a number of times and that is why she has not received the praises from the judges that she hoped to get.

        You can love her as much as you like, and you can think that she is the best among the contestants out there.  But others can think differently, and we can all just agree to disagree, without being disagreeable.

      • Seriously!?!!! Christina aguillera’s and celine dion’s songs are much harder than whitney’s!!! Are we referring to the same great whitney houston’s songs??? Probably not! 🙂

    • I agree with you Bojie586 Jessica is the only one who is consistent and sings in the right note.. Those people who said she had a bad performance and little pitchy too but the judges didn’t mind it because she’s one of the judges favorite,, thats a big JOKE.. I think she is born as a singer coz she is really good, she knows how to adjust her voice depending on the songs she is singing, knows how to back off a little not to much of a belting ( coz sometimes too much belting is irritating to the listeners too ) we know she can sing really high notes but save it for the finale :)… I really like Hollie during the first few weeks of the competition but i hate to say this, she is ALWAYS PITCHY, i recorded all weeks performances, and i watched it again yesterday.. oh boy! last 2 weeks performance was soooo awful. She’s already out of tune on the 1st to 4 notes!!!! then out of tune again on 2nd stanza…( how i know this? i know music and i have really good ears when it comes into notes ) then she was good on the chorus to refrain ( which is the high notes ) I feel so bad for her coz i really like her voice but i think in reality she had the worst performance of all the rest of the contestants ( last week ) not deandre.. i’m just saying!!! I think the way you can support your idol is to vote for her/him… I am voting for JSan ( before it was Hollie ) and whoever i think shines on week’s performances

O by the way, the pitchy side you were talikng about is the tone.  So funny you can even recognized the tone versus pitchy.  She doesnt have to be same as Whitney, Beyonce or anybody else.  When you sing their songs, its much better if you can sing same tone and beat if you can.  jessica sings exactly same as the song as she have not heard some of the 80′ song before.  That is incredible talent.  While some saying oh I never heard that song thats why im pitchy.  Yeah right no excuse.  Lame excuse like Hollie and pointing out to jessica’s last night. They are all scared and they know they have to beat Jessica.  Sorry she is actually very talended and yes her experience helps her a lot.  Ok another excuse for the rest.   If you want to be a champ you need to practice, sing on stage, in fornt of the thousands of people.  Hollie was there last year and she wants to come back and she do.  She stays home go to school and hang out with friends. I think.  because she said that she did not have any experience.  Sorry why go back to american idol then. Ciao

      You talk as if you are the only one that understands music.  Now I take it that you are partly right with tone and pitch.  But you are far away if you think that jessica is the only one in that group that is talented then you are much mistaken.  And for that & with that kind of arrogance I think I just made up my mind to do a campaign and to rally up the people of the USA to stop this foolishness.

      I am going to suggest to the fans  of recently eliminated singers and to those that will be eliminated to rally and support a singer other than Jessica, maybe then you will understand your arrogance.

      Nothing is a given in this world, especially when winning depends on the mercy of the fan votes here in the good old USA.

      Let us test your arrogance and see how far you can go Bojie.

      • I don’t think rallying DeAndre’s fans is gonna do much good. Maybe .01% up for each of the other 6 contestants…LOL. I am telling you, I know a lot of Filipino/Americans and they are small in stature but large in spirit. Like little Chihuahuas they have a very deeply inbred inferiority complex and it makes them absolutely vicious and incredibly defensive in nature. I might be profiling here but if the shoe fits then you need to wear it. I know this statement is not politically correct but it’s the truth in my experience.

      • I used to support erica van pelt, but when when she got the boot, it took a while before giving my nod to another contestant. I would admit that i was in still in denial when erica was voted out. But for whatever reason, the following week, i just found myself voting my butt out for jessica. she’ s not even my early fave! Admittedly, when erica was still in the competition, i was in fact hoping that jessica or hollie would have a bad week because i knew then that they were threats to my fave. I’m sorry, but im voting based on what i see and what i believe in, not because i was swayed, convinced or prodded by anyone! I think for the past years, america has learned a couple of things or two. I don’t really care about the arrogance of a fan supporting jessica. I will vote for her because i believe deep from the heart of an objective (not avid) voter and AI follower that jessica deserves to win. 🙂 I REST MY CASE 🙂

      Personally, I don’t get the fuss about either Colton or Phillip but am sure they dominate the Southern teen votes so will be there irrespective of quality of performance.

    • I kind of think you might be right. As Colton’s fan base of pre-teen girls and bible belt fans is hard to beat. But, if it turned out to be Jessica and Phillip I would be more happy. If Elise had that blusey, gravely voice that Haley from last season had, she would so be at the top of my list. But, She is not that good, yet. And don’t underestimate the country music fans of Skylar, if she can impress us like she did last week.

  33. My theories on the top 3 changed this week….I think Joshua is proving to be the one thing alot of the others are not doing, getting better and better each week. I think Jessica is incredible but like Pia last year, she could bomb out if she doesnt pick the correct songs.  Skylar really impressed me and no matter what she will have a great career.  I don’t like Elise.  The first time I saw Colton I immediately said “Jared Leto copycat”.  He looks and dresses like him but he doesn’t have the intensity on stage that Jared does, but he will get a career in the music business..I just won’t buy any of his stuff….I don’t like people preaching to me.  Philip will be huge, but I don’t think he will win….the top 3 will be Joshua, Skylar and Jessica (unless she picks songs that are not suited for her).  The dark horse will be Philip.  Gotta say tho…great talent this year..

  35. This is the correct top 7 more or less.  We’re about to start seeing people in the bottom three that we don’t want to, but it’s the nature of the competition.

    • Oh it’s gonna be Elise, Hollie and Phillip in the bottom three I’m pretty sure. P2 has been a front runner but people are starting to get irritated by his grimaces and last week’s creeping all over the stage and walking around like Quasimodo didn’t help either. Who would go to a concert to watch someone squinch up their whole body and lurk around over the stage and screech out a mediocre rendition of some forgettable guitar backed homage to Dave Mathews?

      • Actually, I thought that was s pretty accurate discription of what Phil looked liked, the one time he performed without his guitar. I have not seen anything that hard to watch since I saw Joe Cocker perform.

      •  I’m a so so fan of Phillip.  He’s good  at what he does but it’s not always to my taste.  I’m hardly ever like, “Yeah this is good” with him, which I rarely say anyways.  I was of the opinion that he’s still going to be around for the top 4 at least.

  40. I like Elise. Pitchy at times but the way she sings it’s almost like its suppose to be pitchy. Love her. I’m glad DeAndre is gone. Couldn’t stand him. As for Jessica, Josh, and Hollie, they sing great but are sooooo boring. Not what I want to hear everytime I turn on the radio….ballots. No thanks. Skyler is good too but country isn’t my kind of music. Elise, Phillip, and Colton for me are the only 3 who bring anything up beat. My votes will be for Elise but I think Phillip will take it all.

To Pythagoras475 :    What you mentioned about the non-southern contestants easily being voted off is scary !!!!   The latest victims were DeAndre (CA),   HeeJun (NY),   Erica (RI)…….   But why are more people voting in the  southern states  ?    Are there more AI fans in the southern states ????    I remember Ruben, Fantasia, Clay, Scotty are ALL from the south.    David Cook ( ? ), Jordin Spark ( ?)  Taylor (?) Lee ( ?) Kris ( ?).

    How do they know the voters are teen girls ??    They need to do a survey to find out.   Everybody is guessing…….. Let’s hope the opening of the voting lines out of US can help Jessica ……………   This is about where you live instead of talents.  Wow………..

      • So since it’s American Idol does that mean it’s open to everyone in North America, Central America and South America. Should be! All of those people should be able to vote. If it’s only the US shouldn’t it be United States Idol instead?

      • I do agree with you on that Shadrac.  American Idol voting is for US only.  Every country has their own idol show.  That would not be fair to other contestant.  I beleieve AI already set up their phone lines, online voting and text by hours on US only.  I know that even Canada cannot vote, I guess.  That’s what I heard.  Correct me if Im wrong. Other countries have no way to vote for sure.

    • This is just a thought but I think more people from the larger metropolitan areas of the North are much more likely to be busy sun up to sun down trying to make gazillions of dollars so they can eventually move to a warmer climate like Florida and retire. 

      Not exactly like that but I do believe the pace in the south is a little more laid back and easy going and people actually take time to stop and metaphorically “smell the roses”. Meaning that they actually take time for a little R&R and entertainment and participate in stuff like this. Also not as many cities in the south have public transportation and people commute in their cars and that means a lot of radio listening so music takes more of a front seat in people’s lives. 

      With the busier, more hectic, pace of the Northern cities and the higher cost of living in most of them the main objective is to make money. It’s all about them Benjamins up there LOL and that doesn’t leave a lot of time for “petty” things of this nature. 

      There have been a far greater percentage of finalists from the south. I don’t think he is necessarily talking about just the winners. I posted a list of all the finalists from the south a few weeks ago and it was pretty impressive.

  50. Joshua and Jessica have been the most consistent on the show this season. Both VERY talented. Phillip is very unique, Colton is a fab rocker, Elise has an amazing rasp is her voice and is under appreciated. Hollie I find has trouble connecting emotionally with the audience, although she is quite talented. Skylar is also good, but I’m sick of country music. It all sounds the same, very bland, narrow spectrum of what you can do with it.

I know that Jessica Sanchez is trying her hardest to be in the competetion at this time and so is the 6 finalist right now.  Everyone of them has different talent that they share in American Idol.  It’s too early to say Jessica is the one to be crowned as there are other contestants every week that shines on their performancea.  My opinion, Jessica is ahead of them right now.  Based on the poll and votes.  Jessica is so talented that I wish I have it too.  Lol.

  55.  Jessica Sanchez  has been trying hard to show to the people what she can showcase as a musician. She has proven herself each week. Maybe some of us are so into her that they at times might get negative to the other contestants. But that’s them, others are different so don’t stereotype all her fans.
    We’ve seen her struggling to be on the top. She’s just 16 years old and she has already that quality [consistency, versatility, personality, vocal range] that can wow the world. 

    If you think she has become overconfident [which she really isn’t] , go back to her age. As young as she is, she needs to grow as a person & as a performer and she has been listening to all the advises given to her by her mentors and apply them on stage. 

    You think that she can’t give any peak performance anymore because she has already given that during Week 1, you’re wrong. A performer doesn’t just end in a one-peak performance. The Houston song is not her edge yet like what most of the people think. She has been performing on stage like it’s her last week.

    If you think she’ll end like Tuscano, she won’t be as long as America keeps on voting for her. 

    Jessica Sanchez is MY next American Idol!

  57. My favorite is Hollie.  But somebody, please tell her the day of the classic diva is over. If you can appeal to 13yo girls or grandmas then you stay in. Some grandmas like divas, but few 13yo’s.  Divas are now like Gaga and Rihanna. Hollie needs to loosen up and look less straight-laced. Get a hint of a grunge look.  Become someone the tweens want to be, and someone their parents won’t. Right now, she is opposite.  Too well-dressed, too proper.  She needs some attitude. That’s what Jessica has over her. If Hollie had a hint of smack-down, she might get into the top 5.  She needs her breakout song this week. Sing something up-tempo but not too rock.  How about Avril Lavigne “What the Hell”? Act it up, but don’t move around the stage but so much.

    • And, to the judges… Stop playing favorites. Listen to the music. You should have called Jessica out on her self-indulgent extension of notes in high-school diva-esque fashion. Yes, she is probably the favorite. But, I get the sense that the producers & label are influencing your opinions. C’mon…a 17yo girl with an alter ego???  Ridiculous. Joshua’s screaming is horrendous. Skyler is a good one-trick pony. Colton’s okay, but predictable. Philip has attitude problems that will limit his success.  Elise needs to stick with hard rock.  Hollie has more potential than you allow, which influences the teeny-boppers and puts Hollie at the bottom.  Everybody goes on about how young Jessica is. Hollie is only18, which is just two years older. Not to mention growing up in San Diego probably matures one faster than growing up in Mckinney, Tx.

Skylar is ten times better than they make her out to be and most would agree but are too stubborn to agree because they don’t want another country singer to win. and honestly I think more people like Jessica because shes like Pia and didn’t like what happened last year. guess it’s true nothings fair in this world anymore.

  59. I love Jessica, but I love Holly’s voice even more. She is not pitchy. She has been used as a scapegoat long enough. The judges need someone to pick on and Holly is the one they use. She has a beautiful voice. Have you ever noticed that they give standing ovations to all their favorites? I think Holly should not listen to some of the judge’s  advice. They are mixing her up with all their instuctions. She does very well with her natural singing talents. The judges never have a kind word for her. My top 3-Jessica,-Holly, Colton or possibly, (if he stops screaming when he sings) Joshua. Good luck to all! 

    • I agree 100%, I love Jessica too, but I have a feeling producers or judges  see her as a threat to Jessica (talking about Hollie) ,  so they constantly bash her 🙁

  63. Probably the most correct top 7 so far. I just can’t throw anyone among those remaining and it’s become a pleasure to watch the show because of them. All great talents! They just have to prove they’re the best of the bests and get out of their comfort zones. No room for complacency right now. I think Phillip is wrong when he says he only wants to sing his music and that’s it. He’s in a competition so he should push himself to be greater than what he used to be doing. He is to sell music so if he will not listen to everybody in the business, he should go to his room and play and sing for no one except for himself.

    • I agree that of the remaining performers, I do not see any stinkers lingering longer than they should, like in years past (think Sanjaya or that tiny guy with glasses that looked like Kermit the Frog). But, at the same time … I do not see anyone truly, knock my socks off amazing either. Such as Adam Lambert or even Haley Rhienhart.

    I’m a jessica fan but i admit she’s pitchy sometimes. Like in sweet dreams, i will always love you etc. but she don’t need to be perfect to perform excellently 🙂 she always try her best to be on top. She listens to the comments and mentors’ advise. She needs a lot of improvement in breathing, it shows in her turn the beat around. But hey, she’s only 16, someday she’ll learn to perfect that. 🙂

    •  I don’t ever heard Jessica being pitchy. Never at all. Even the judges and Jimmy Iovine they never heard her been pitchy ever. Her voice is always perfect and flawlesss. Same as with Joshua, Philip and Colton. I’ve never heard these four singers get pitchy at all.

  70. I think out the seven remaining , Hollie is the weakest link. That’s two weeks in a row she’s in the bottom three. Colton have the fans and the looks but that’s all. The other five, Jess, Josh, Phil, Elise and Sky are really in to win it. Right now Jess may be leading the pack (my fave) but it is still anybody’s ballgame. Whoever wins among the five is deserving and I will have no complaints , hope nobody would..

    • I am agree with you, Colton only has the fans and the looks. No special in his voice. I don’t hate him actually, but I think he was the worst in the top 8 performance.
      No wonder he’ll be in top 3 becoz of his huge fans based which mostly teenies. Now he’s leading in twitter followers.

  71. you guys are all mean i think all the contestants are great some stand out more than others and they all have their little quirks that they do when they sing look at jess she taps her fingers on the mic and so does hollie elise growls when she hits the high notes joshua puts his hand in a certain postion when he sings and phillip picks up his leg colton closes his eyes alot these are things they do to make them feel comfortable when they sing and they don’t realilize that they are doing it but all in all it doesn’t have anything to do with their singing if it bothers you that much close your eyes when they sing it will be different.

  73. I think the Top 7 are pretty much solid. This is what I expected it to be. On Thursday’s elimination show, I kinda disliked P2’s reaction to what Jimmy said about him.

    He needs all the advise that he could get. C’mon man! He needs to get over himself. For the record, Jimmy is kinda right. Jimmy is not making him an “another individual” but he is making him BETTER. Note that Philip, B-E-T-T-E-R! I am disappointed of his stubborn approach to what everyone says about him. I know he’s a great guy, but the way he handled the situation on that elimination show is way too stubborn.

I’d like to see all the To 7 to show what they can do at the stage.  We Ai fans wants something entertaining every week.  This is the reason why we watched idol.  I am Jessica’s sincere fan since audition when I saw her, but if she performs same thing over and over again, I will be disappointed.  Even Jessica said that she wants to do things differently every week so she knows what she needs to improve.  She is a very good listener and learn from it. That’s a huge factor that’s why she is on top right now.  I hope the others should do the same thing to better themselves.
