American Idol 2014: What Performances Air This Week? April 16-17, 2014

Down to just the Top 7 contestants, American Idol 2014 returns this week for back to back nights of shows featuring performances on Wednesday where the finalists will ‘do unto others’ and the results show this Thursday.

This week’s American Idol theme will be a first for the series when the finalists pick songs for the other finalists! They’ll be narrowing down options to just a few songs for the artist to pick from before heading to the live stage on Wednesday night. Of course it’d be funny to see some silly songs picked, but I doubt there will be any real sabotage attempts here this week.

Then on Thursday night we’ll be back at the new time and shorter show duration when the American Idol results show kicks off at 9PM ET with our 30-minute live blog of the whole show. There’s no safety net again this week after the Save was used on Sam the other week. The singer with the lowest votes will be eliminated no matter how much JLo cries.

We’re excited to see how this week’s performances turn out with a fun, new theme that’s sure to give us some interesting song picks come Wednesday night!

We’re getting closer to discovering which finalist will become the next American Idol! Who do you think it will be?

  1. I hope that Sam will not be singing “The Wheels On The Bus” but will sing something more like “Look What You’ve Done” by Jet. I’d love for Jessica to do something by Cher. And Alex would floor me with “Somewhere Only We Know” by Keane.
Caleb needs to start showing some originality instead of acting like the lead singer in a tribute band. Maybe “This Aint A Love Song” by Bon Jovi. For Dex = “The Pilgrim” by Kris Kristofferson, CJ = “Everybody Knows” by Leonard Cohen and Jena = “Different Drum” by The Stone Poneys w Linda Ronstadt. Impossible wish list, I know.

    • That’s not a bad suggestion for Jena. Actually “Heart Like A Wheel” would be a good choice for her too.

    • I completely agree with your analysis of Caleb. It is the same thing every week with no artistry. He is obviously extremely talented like everyone says but I think American Idol is looking for someone who will be on the bilboard charts. I just don’t see him doing that with the karaoke singings he does. I wish the judges could pick that up as they say similar things to Alex about being boring. I’m always bored at a Caleb performance.

  2. I think just about anything from Meatloaf would be perfect for Caleb. I wouldn’t mind “If I Could Turn Back Time” from Cher for Jessica. As for the rest of them—their days are numbered so it really is kind of pointless. I would suggest that CJ concentrate on singing in key rather then song choice. The same critique week after week gets old for him….

    • I agree with the Meat Loaf thing except those songs written by Jim Steinman are sagas that take a long time to get to the point. 2 Out of 3 is over 5 minutes. How can you cut those songs to 90 seconds and get the gist? They aren’t rock, they’re theater. I think he’d do pretty well with Bob Seger, such as “Still The Same”. He could put quite a bit of attitude in that.
