We’re down to just the Top 7 on American Idol 2014 and we’ve got your American Idol spoilers for tonight’s theme. Instead of some random, general theme handed down by the producers, the finalists will be singing songs given to them by… the other contestants!

That’s right, the Top 7 will each sing a song chosen for them by the other finalists next week. Each of the singers — Sam Woolf, Alex Preston, Dexter Roberts, Jena Irene, CJ Harris, Caleb Johnson, and Jessica Meuse – will pick a song for each of the other competitors. 1. if you’re a smart competitor, and know a little something about “survivor”, you will pick a song you KNOW your competition CAN’T sing!! hee hee. that would really spice up the show

    • ITA. I’d love for them to really punk eachother. Like:
      CJ – “MMM Bop”/ Hanson
      Jena – “Coal Miner’s Daughter”/ Loretta Lynn
Dexter – “Music of the Night” / Phantom of the Opera
Caleb – “Cattle Call” / Eddie Arnold
Sam – “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” / Bobby McFerrin
Alex – “YMCA” / Village People
Jess – “I Never Promised You a Rose garden” Lynn Anderson
      Yeah, I’m evil.

      • Actually, I can imagine them forming alliances where they agree to submit a song for someone if that person agrees to submit a song they want for themselves. And if they are working from a limited song list, whoever gets to pick first gets a break.

  2. Would love to see Jena back on the piano this coming week, hope she sings ‘Zombie’ by the Cranberries or ‘Human’ by Christina Perri. Really want to see the softer side to her!

  3. I’m not sure why, but my comments are now being removed, so I am going to stop using this site. Best wishes everyone.

  4. On a less mischievous note, what I’d really like them to sing is:
    Dexter – “Get Together”/Youngbloods
    CJ – “What A Wonderful World”/Louis Armstrong
    Jena – “Mean”/Taylor Swift
Caleb – “Still The Same”/Bob Seger
    Sam – “59th St. Bridge” [Feeling Groovy]/Simon & Garfunkel
Jess – “Just Like Jesse James”/Cher
    Alex – “Key Largo”/Bertie Higgins

  5. I’m with Stormy! How about these?
Caleb – Fireflies by Owl City
    CJ – Dream On, Aerosmith
Dexter – Nice and Slow – Usher
Jena – Ordinary Girl, Hannah Montana
Sam – Rebel Yell, Billy Idol
    Alex – Baby, Justin Bieber
    Jess – Smooth Operator, Sade
I’m evil too! I really had a hard time coming up with something that Jena and Alex couldn’t just change to suit them.

  6. This is cool. But we can see also who will be the judas in this. If someone wud choose song for his co-finalist something that may destroy him in the competition, surely, it’s just like digging a hole of his own. Pretty sure the following week, that person will be hated and eliminated. So they better be careful too.

    • It would only be fun if they all did it. And no voting that week, just like half time hi-jinks.

  7. Here is what I’d like to see:
Alex: “True Love Ways” by Buddy Holly
Sam: “Poor Little Fool” by Ricky Nelson
Caleb: “Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad” by Meatloaf
    Jessica: “Crazy” by Patsy Cline
Dexter: “Something About a Boat” by Jimmy Buffett
Jena: “Dreaming of You” by Selena
CJ: “You Send Me” by Sam Cooke

    • Note: Selena’s “Dreaming of you” was last weeks (80’s)
suggestion that I picked for Jena to do.

  8. Caleb should sing “Devil with a blue Dress” by Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels.

  9. Idk but surely im not the only one who thinks caleb is the total pkg and he so looks and reminds me of meatloaf. Im 25 so yes I like meatloaf and I like like like caleb to he will go all the way

    • Caleb is a parrot. All he does is copy lead singers from rock’s golden era. There’s zero originality in him. He has an excellent voice, but in this incarnation all he can look forward to is being in a tribute band. Kiss 2.0, Led Zepagain? He needs to establish a style that is his own.

      • I don’t think Caleb is capable of originality. He seems like such a pompous jerk, to top it off.

      • I know. I wish he’d stretch a bit and maybe do something like “Sometimes When We Touch” by Dan Hill or “This Aint A Love Song”/Bon Jovi. And I’d love for Jessica to do something deeper like “I’ve Never been To Me”/Charlene or Linda Ronstadt’s version of “Desperado.

  10. And about Malaya, she was too hyper for my liking. Her manic behavior was almost as irritating as Sam’s total lack of personality. BUT, as always, we all get our own opinions.

  11. Malaya needs to mellow. She was too young and too hyper. Gena doesn’t appeal to me. Not music I would want to listen to. I just don’t think she is that stupendous. CJ needs to work on pitch, if that is possible. Caleb? I agree with Stormy … no originality. Not much of a future with that. I think the rest of them could make it, and I also think Alex is very original. I can see him having staying power. I think he is a genius. Jess has a good, strong voice. Cher and some of the others are getting old now. We need a Jessica. Sam is adorable and sings pretty perfectly. Dexter could do well with all the folks who like country music, which is a LOT! Did I forget anyone?

  12. Did anyone else notice that now that it is getting down to the wire, there have been some comments from the judges that sound extremely scripted? Keith delivered two of them to Caleb after his performances. One comment was about an “airbag in slow motion”. I forget the other one. The two highly scripted comments didn’t sound natural to me, and it made me wonder if he scripted them before the performances, or if someone else did, like a producer. Anyone else notice that?

  13. I can’t really wait for the idols’ next showdown. This is really fun. And of course, what I am excited the most is the upcoming performance of SAM WOOLF. I’ve been tracking his performances eversince the start of the season. I really believe he will be the next substantial American Idol. Sam would make History on American Idol!
