American Idol 2014 hopeful Neco Starr picked an ambitious song for his final Hollywood Week solo performance when he tackled “Halo” by Beyoncé. We admire his bravery in choosing a song most guys probably wouldn’t attempt, but we’re not sure if the end result should earn him a place in the Top 30.
Performing a Beyoncé song for American Idol judges Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez, and Harry Connick Jr. is intimidating enough. Doing it when your voice is giving out on you has to be scary as hell. That’s exactly what Neco Starr faced in his final Hollywood Week solo round. We feel bad for the guy, but that’s just how it is sometimes!
Neco isn’t entirely terrible in his last chance to impress the American Idol 2014 judges before they narrow down the field to the Top 30. However, his voice is obviously strained and he sounds a lot like he is just yelling out the lyrics at points.
Not really what we would call a winning performance. The judges, however, seemed to think he did a decent job. We’ll have to wait and see if it was enough for him to make it to the semifinals.
Advice for future American Idol contestants out there. Get a vocal coach to teach you how to sing properly without stripping your voice, and then practice singing at the top of your lungs for hours every single day before you audition!
