American Idol 2018 Top 3 Power Rankings

It’s hard to believe that in less than one week now, we will have the winner of American Idol 2018. That means that this will be our final Power Rankings of the season. And since there are only three, it’s going to be a short one.

American Idol 2018 Top 3 Power Rankings

1. Gabby Barrett. I think Gabby secured her spot at the top this week with her performance of “I Have Nothing” by Whitney Houston. Like I’ve said all season, Gabby is at her best when she’s performing a powerful pop song. I think her throwing in those pop songs every now and then is smart because she already has the country voters on board, so when she goes outside that box, she appeals to more people. I think Gabby is probably going to win American Idol 2018.

2. Maddie Poppe. For the record, Maddie and Gabby are very, very close in our rankings. I could go back and forth between them all day. Maddie is my personal favorite, but that’s not what this is about. This is how well they performed and how they are ranking on social media and in polls. This week Maddie’s Carrie Underwood song wasn’t her best vocal ever, but she closed the night with “God Only Knows” by the Beach Boys and it was incredible. Also, on the American Idol YouTube, Gabby has the most views, but Maddie is right behind her. Actually, Maddie has more views on some of her videos than some of Gabby’s. So my guess is these two are neck and neck currently.

3. Caleb Lee Hutchinson. I remain baffled by Caleb’s spot in the Top 3. I didn’t expect him to make it into the Top 10, Top 7, Top 5 or the Top 3. He’s proven me wrong every single time. So that probably means he will win American Idol 2018. As for performances this week, his were so far below the two girls, that he couldn’t pass them up in our rankings if he tried. I didn’t hate his performances this week, but this entire season he hasn’t done anything innovative or unique. And he has the lowest YouTube views of the the Top 3 (actually the Top 5, so go figure). Of course those numbers are ever-changing, so I’m just going on what I saw five minutes before writing this.

So if we were to crown the winner today, I think it would be a close call between Gabby and Maddie. But this next Sunday performances could change things again. And since I think there will be more time to vote, it could really make a difference what and how the Top 3 perform on Sunday.

How would you rank the American Idol Top 3? Let us know who you think should win by voting in our Top 3 poll.
