Whoa, this is big news, but not surprising at all. Ellen DeGeneres will not be returning to the Judges’ Panel for American Idol 2011! Ellen released a statement saying she had decided to not return, or was FOX just nice enough to let her say that?
“A couple months ago, I let Fox and the `American Idol’ producers know that this didn’t feel like the right fit for me,” DeGeneres said in a statement. The comedian-talk show host said she realized that while she “loved discovering, supporting and nurturing young talent, it was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings.”
Ellen will not fulfill her two-year contract. Also worth noting is that FOX has yet to announce if they’ll even renew Kara’s contract.
So there are now two empty spots at the table and I’m hoping only one of those seats will be filled. Three judges was plenty, but that third new judge will have to be a powerhouse to bring up Kara and Randy. Who do you want it to be?
Update: J. Lo is one of the rumored replacements who is very, very close to signing a contract to become one of the new judges! I’m not sure how I feel about that just yet. She’s got the background, but do we really need a diva in the role?

I think they should consider artists like Puffy, Celine Dion, Sade, Beyonce, Sting, Seal, Celine Dion, Madonna, and Bono as possible judges……. Jennifer Lopez nah! I dont think may people gravitate towards her these days musically, as least not like they used to.
I agree that three judges would be the way to go. I am hoping for Harry C….he would be amazing.
Very sorry to hear Ellen is leaving. She's my favorite judge so far, and I thought she showed a better musical judgment than the more seasoned judges. I saw where Jennifer Lopez was her replacement. Interesting choice. It would be nice to have someone who appreciated soul, dance and Latin rhythm more than the others do become a judge,

I really liked Ellen, she brought humor to that panel of judges and it was refreshing. I heard TMZ revealed that J. Lo has signed on to be a judge……I like her so I'll give it a shot……..can't be any worse than Kara (who I also heard is gone)….boy that TMZ knows everything….LOL
Going to see Adam Lambert this weekend and I am thrilled……Unfortunately after that season the show went downhill……I really hope that they can spice up IDOL this season and get some better talent…..Last season was a bust……..
I liked Ellen, but we really need someone that knows talent and musical ability to judge contestants and isn't afraid of making tough decisions regarding the contestants she is judging. Ellen wanted to be everyone's friend and didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings. Everyone knew that's what made Simon so valuable. Somehow they have to find someone who is a leader and not a people pleaser.

I really think the show is losing its edge.The last 2 seasons haven`t really been good.And the show would really be losing viewers well because the judges were alright but Glee will start sooner so viewers would just take Glee and leave American Idol behind.But i`m still gonna watch Season 10.Just wanna see if its better.
If Ellen leaves the American Idol, please give me Sharon Osbourne. She is a great judge and I'm sure she could do America's Got Talent and AI since they run at different times.

As I posted on the Kara's comment I am very sad to read that Ellen is gone from the show. She might not have the experience but she has been a great judge, always motivating the contestants and giving them the best advice she felt in that moment. As for Kara I am soooo thrilled she was kicked out LOL She looked so cheap and vulgar all season, all over Simon all the time and if she could, she would have been all over Casey on the stage haha. I hope Ryan Seacrest will be kicked out also, I really disliked him this season for many reasons but the worse was when he was all drugged on the stage challenging Simon with that lost look. Was very painful to watch and embarrassing at the same time.

Ellen was good. I enjoyed her. She had a personality. I don't think J.Lo could handle it. Simon was the last good personality on the show and he's gone. Better yet, why don't you just cancel the show?
If J Lo & Steven taylor are no longer among the possible judges! I think the two new judges should be one of the followings ( Cyndi Lauper, Tracy Ulman, Bette Midler, Queen Latifah , Cher & Dolly Parton ) for the female position …and ( Jon Bon Jovi, Sting, John mellancamp & Meatloaf ) for the male position!
