There were rumors for years that original American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson dated season one runner-up Justin Guarini. However, neither of them ever actually admitted to having a relationship. Now, Justin has finally confessed that the two did indeed date, and the relationship ended because of Kelly’s success.
In his new one-man, biographical cabaret act, Lovesick, Justin Guarini reveals that he and Kelly Clarkson did indeed hook up, but not during American Idol. They were just friends, according to Justin, until sparks flew on the set of their movie, From Justin to Kelly.

Kelly Clarkson and Justin Guarini dating didn’t last long, however, apparently due in part to her massive success. Despite a slew of rumors about the two getting together, both Justin and Kelly have avoided the topic until now. Justin even referred to Kelly as being “like my sister” on American Idol in an interview with Yahoo back in 2012.
We weren’t that shocked to learn that Justin Guarini and Kelly Clarkson got together. However, we were more surprised to learn she wasn’t the only American Idol contestant Justin had a fling with. According to Justin, he also hooked up with season one contestant Tamyra Gray.
Justin has struggled in recent years, admitting to sometimes “skipping meals” in order to “make sure my children and my wife have enough,” according to a blog post last year. Things are looking up for the former American Idol contestant lately, however. Not only is he starring in Lovesick at the Bucks County Playhouse in Pennsylvania, but he’ll also be joining the cast of Wicked on Broadway on February 25.
