One of the most romantic American Idol love stories is now coming to an end. Twilight star Nikki Reed and Paul McDonald, American Idol season 10 finalist, are splitting up. We are terribly sad this adorably cute couple has decided to part ways. Of all the Hollywood couples out there, it just seems wrong that a Nikki Reed and Paul McDonald divorce has to happen. They always seemed so in love!
Paul McDonald and Nikki Reed met in 2011 during an American Idol finalists’ trip to the premiere of the movie Red Riding Hood. He moved in with her just a month later, and they were engaged just two months after that. The two married in October of the same year.
This weekend, a representative for Twilight star Nikki Reed announced the unhappy news that she and the former American Idol finalist were headed for divorce. “After much consideration, Nikki Reed and Paul McDonald are ending their marriage,” the statement said. “They have been living separately for the past six months due to work obligations.”
We can only guess this reference to being separated for so long due to “work obligations” may be at the heart of why Nikki and Paul broke up. Hollywood couples split all the time because they are so often apart for long stretches of time. Still, the news of the divorce came as a shock to fans, especially considering Nikki had talked very positively about her marriage to Paul just a few days before the announcement.
“We love just hanging out,” Nikki Reed told UsMagazine.com two days before the break up news. “He’s my best friend in the world and I love him so much.”
Although we are depressed to see the couple break up, a rep for the actress said the two will remain close friends and still finish their current musical project together. “They will continue to share their love of music, and are still working on their debut album, ‘I’m Not Falling’, releasing in 2014. They remain best friends and look forward to their continued journey together.”
