American Idol Auditions: 2012 Forms and Requirements Released

We’ve finally received the American Idol auditions details for 2012 including all the release forms for registration, audition requirements, and the audition FAQs. Lots of really important information included in these documents so if you’re serious about going to one of the seven audition events for season 11 to try out then you need to thoroughly read these.

American Idol 2012 Audition documents:

Here are a few of the most important highlights from the requirements document pertaining to age and citizenship questions:

You must be able to prove at the time of your registration and audition that:

  • You are a legal U.S. citizen or a permanent U.S. resident who is eligible to work full-time in the United States
  • You are 15 to 28 years old on June 26, 2011 (which means you must be born on or between June 27, 1982 and June 26, 1996). If you were born before or after this window, you are not eligible to participate this season.

We’ve had a lot of questions from those who are too young asking if it’s okay if they still come out and audition for American Idol 2012. Hopefully that age requirement makes it completely clear for those wondering.

One interesting thing to note is the FAQ document’s reference to a Los Angeles audition event having a shortened registration window. The document then lists the seven audition locations and none of them are Los Angeles. So that’s either a left over copy&paste error from last year’s document or an LA event has been planned but not announced or it was dropped from their list. Weird.

  1. I am going to audition in Pittsburgh and I was curious what time to be there for registration

    • I’m not going to answer that because it’s already answered in the documentation linked above in the article.

      If you want to try out, but are too lazy to read for 30 seconds, then you might want to reconsider.

      • And after you get a 100+ questions from people too lazy to read for themselves, skip over all the answers they need, and ask the same question over and over you’d understand.

        I wonder if the same people ask the waiter to chew their food for them first and then drop it down their throats.

    • I auditioned last year, I went the day before auditions to get my papers and wrist band. Then, the morning of auditions be in the line asap. We went at 7:30 and we were close to the end of the line. Good luck to ya!!!!!:)

    • You’d have to ask American Idol that. We’re a fan site and don’t have anything to do with auditions (or any other part of the show).

    Haven’t you watched the show for season 11?

  7. Hi, my name is Gabrielle I am trying out in San Deago I want to know the exact time I am supposed to be there for registration, or what is the best time I should be there? I know it says everyone can start lining up at 5:00am but someone told me they were going to line up at 3:00. And I also want to know if I need to like paper clip pictures of me on my registration form or should I bring pictures of me at all?

    • You have to wait and see what they do next year. They could change the age requirements then. All we know is what they require for this next season.

  19. Hello I’m 15 years old, from Richmond California. I’ve been singing since I was 2years old. I really want to make it on that stage with a sky full of audience. I want to be the first person in my family to accomplish their goals. I only have one parwnt at the time, wich is my mom. I have 3 other siblings also; oldest is andrew , 18 mentally challenged; younger sister 11 Kayla, who is as well. And Ashton 3 . We are poor but NEVER GIVE UP. …… SO YUP ONE DAY YOU GUYS WILL SEE ME SING MY SOUL OUT ON STAGE. 🙂

  27. i would like to try out for american idol i know its perty impossible to be heard but i still would like to try or ill regret it for the rest of my life is it to late???? its 1/1/2012

    • It’s too late to audition for season 11 but there will be more auditions in the summer of 2012 for season 12. Audition cities and dates are usually announced and posted after the current season. Just be sure to watch the show and periodically check the website for updates. Also, it is not guaranteed but it is pretty easy to be heard during the audition process. I was pretty late to register for Season 10 and although I had to wait nearly 11 hours on audition day, I did get to try out. However, I did learn that audition positions are determined by time of registration, so the earlier you register, the earlier you audition and the better your chances of being heard.     • I don’t really care if you think I’m being rude. I’ve already provided all the information any of them need, but instead of doing a bit of work themselves and, gasp, reading the details above they skip down and ask the same dumb questions.  

      They don’t want a “friendly, clear response,” they want to be spoonfed the info because they’re lazy.

  34. Hi, I am interested in auditioning for American Idol season 12. I know that previously the age restiction has been 15- 28. I am hoping this will change for 2012. I am 29. I know that the age limit was recently lowered to 15. Is there a way to have them raise it to 30?

  36. Why is there a age limit there are people out there that are   so much more talented out there  than just  15 to 26 year olds! people of all ages should be able to aduition. I have given talent shows before similar to American Idol  but on a much smaller scale with no age limits .  I had a  special show case and special rules for childen 5 to 11  and teens 12 to 17 for axample ”EVERY” CHILD WINS A PRIZE FOR THEIR EFFORT!!! but if that child is especially gifted in his or her talent they would win a trip to Disney and a trophy. for the children  you wold hear  no boos comming from  the  audience  just an applause . and the adults what ever age had their own show case on a different day and month the adults for example , the adults 18 and over would win  a   trophy and money  and shopping cards exc but for the adults judging was much toupher it was almost like Simon was there him self and if we had the money we would have for  the especially talented to go to Hollywood or get a recording contract with the recod company of their choice. but we didn’t so we did wht we could .we had no age discriminations. just wnt to know why do American Idol discriminates on age!

  38. The South Central Fairgrounds  in Chase City, Va. is planning to hold AI type auditions for the 2013 show with the best two contestants getting all expense paid trips to the official regional American Idol auditions. Our auditions will take place in the summer of 2012.

It will be the last year I can audition seeing as I am going to be 28 in October. 🙁 I have never auditioned for it before but I decided That I had better or else I would wonder for the rest of my life.
