American Idol 2012 live voting begins next week when the Top 12 male singers plus 1 unknown wildcard take the stage on Tuesday. This special Tuesday episode will be the launch of the live shows which means audience voting! The ladies will follow on Wednesday night with their Top 12 singers performing live.
No word yet on any voting changes for this season so I’d expect that means things will remain the same. As much as we’d like them to find some sort of cap or limit there’s no way American Idol is ready to give up having Ryan Seacrest announce how many tens of millions of votes they received.
Thanks to TIP we already have some mild American Idol spoilers since we know next week’s theme will be songs picked by both the singers and production. Keep your fingers crossed on this one, but I’m hoping that means we’ll get a wide variety of performances.
The American Idol results show will air on Thursday and reveal the season 11 finalists and set us up for our march to the finale in late May. Get ready!
I hope Johnny will be picked as the 13th guy to go through.
We’ll have a poll posted this afternoon for which guy should get to come back. Be sure to check in later and vote for your favorite.
Matt; Where is the poll? I can’t wait to see the votes!! Sherry K
@ Sherry K: Hopefully you’ve already discovered the poll, but it’s here:

it should be Johny i was shocked when he was eliminated…it should be him
this season the boys are too strong i mean Phil Philips, Colton Dixon,Creighton Fraker,…
Eli Teston, Erika Van Pelt, Jen Irsh, Hollie C are better
Heejun is better than all of them
c’mon!phil is not strong…he can’t sing!why don’t u mention erika or jen?
LOL! Phil is the ONLY singer that I would listen to once the show is over. He is a unique, talented singer with a Dave Matthews feel to his voice and stage presence.
Also, note that early on, he has the most twitter followers and facebook fans.
at least not better than jessica or erika…
Your name says it all. You’re probably a teenager who thinks boys have cooties. I don’t think any of those two girls have ONE memorable performance… At least I cant remember any of them- not even their auditions.
I do
Good point Jeremy, I don’t remember them either.
Let me say I am thrilled the live shows are starting but not to beat a dead horse…..if they don’t change their voting system its just going to be a popularity contest. The proof was last year…….I believe all the Top 10 finalists got some sort of contract because there were some contestants better than the top 2 finalists. JMHO….. If a country singer wins this year, it will probably be my last season….until they change the voting.
i don’t blame you. the voting system is absurb as are the people who vote multiple times for no talent people. have a good weekend
Thanks..you too.
Thanks..you too.
Phyllis G. Where have you been? I have been looking for you on this blog. Don’t you think Johnny should come back too? What did you think about Steven mooning Who? I guess either the camera man or the producers? Don’t worry. It is not going to be a country singer this year. If it was they wouldn’t have sent the big mouth cowboy with the cowboy hat on home! Did you see ADAM at the music awards singing with Queen? And he is going to the UK with Queen also. I am afraid the naysayers about ADAM are wrong!!!! He is going to be a star and make some money!!! He was so cool when he sang with Queen!!! He even sang ” We are the Champions.”
Sherry K……Hello my Friend……Hope all is well. I am always on these blogs. LOL…..Of course I saw Adam. I wish I could get to Britain this summer to see him in Concert with Queen but its not possible. I’ll be going on a Cruise and than New York . Busy summer……but I am excited about Idol starting its live shows. I liked Johnny K. I wouldn’t mind if he came back but he didn’t even make the top 42. I doubt if it would be him but than what do I know!!!!!!! Right now I like Chase and a few of the girls. It should be a girl win this season. Talk to you soon!!!! Stay well….
I hope Johnny Keyser is the one who is being allowed to come back into
the competition ….
… will allowing one to come back into the competition mean that one of the 24 might be displaced?
Sorry to reply down here!! To Salvatore!! How about Steve Perry of Journey? He is ranked in the top 100 singers in rolling Stones survey of good singers!! Thank-You! Sherry K PS, I think Chris Daughtry is fabulous too! I hope everyone has a great week end!
Steve Perry registered an 8.9 on our list. Very decent!
Thank-You Salvatore! I have been a fan of Journey for a long tome. And I think Steve Perry has an awesome voice! Have a good day! Sherry K Again sorry to answer in the wrong spot!. But there isn’t any reply next to your comment.
Why do the boys get 13 and not the girls?
I didn’t say the guys get thirteen…. I am wondering if someone will be
eliminated from the 12 – 12 situation…
I know exactly what you mean Phyllis. I work for a sound engineering studio and we have a group that uses our instrumentation to test the songs of each singer that get released, including their idol performances. We do this for fun because we like the show so much. We also compare this to singers that have made it big in the past and test their vocal ability through their songs as well. We test vocal range, frequency, harmony, and pitch. We then average the ratings together and submit the results in a 1-10 format.
See the following data (10 being the best and 1 being the worst).
Aretha Franklin 9.9 <– Absolutely unbeatable, always
Jen Hirsch 9.7 (preliminary data, need more to solidify this one)
Pia Toscano 9.7
Luther Vandross 9.7
Marvin Gaye 9.6
Whitney Houston (RIP) 9.5
Mandesa 9.6
Celine Dion 9.4
Christina Agularia 9.2
9.1 Lauren Alaina
Jessica Sanchez 9.1 (preliminary data, need more to solidify this one)
Hollie Cavanaugh 9.1 (preliminary data, need more to solidify this one)
Stacy Brown (X Factor) 9.0
Kelly Clarkson 9.0
Bo Bice 8.7
Crystal Bowersox 8.7
Katherine McPhee 8.6
Carly Smithton 8.6
Carrie Underwood 8.4
Crayton Fraker 8.5 (preliminary data, need more to solidify this one)
Adam Lambert 8.5
Chris Daughtry 8.5
Stevie Wonder 8.5
Heejun Jin 8.5 (preliminary data, need more to solidify this one)
James Durbin 7.5
Phillip Phillips 7.4 (preliminary data, need more to solidify this one)
Casey Abrams 7.4
Jacob Lusk 6.2
Richie Law 6.2 (preliminary data, need more to solidify this one)
Lee Dewyize 4.5 (surprising isn't it!? Do i smell a voting problem?)
Scotty Mcreery 4.2 (suprising isn't it!? Do i smell a voting problem?)
Britney Spears 4.2
Miley Cyrus 4.2
William Hung .5
From these results, it would suggest that singers are getting better and better, but they are no longer winning american idol contests. The best ones are getting dwarfed by the voting system.

Really Adam Lambert only got a 8.5? I find that surprising!!!
Well Trish, Adam has a very distinct fallceto that seemed to throw off the range reporter. It sounds good, but its occellation between flat and sharp is so steamlined that it brought down his pitch calculation. That goes to show you that he can cover his tone mistakes very well, a mark of a very talented singer. But our program shines a big flashlight on mistakes.
Thanks for this very interesting bit of information….. I am not surprised by this (except maybe for Adam Lambert) but not for Scotty. I still don’t think he is that good……..
Im glad you guys liked this. I will keep posting info as we get more singers and more results. There is without question, an immense voting problem with respect to the best singers, and we will expose it.
Phyllis, See my note about Adam above. He is a great singer, I am a big fan. His falcetto may sound beuatiful, but musically…its only average. That brings up the argument, “What does it matter as long as It sounds good?” A very valid point.
Salvatore….that would be awsome to inform us as the show continues. I find this very interesting. I THINK I understand what you are saying about Adam but I love his music and the same with James Durbin….
Phyllis G. I am always there with you about ADAM. Did you see him perform at the EMA music awards with Queen? He did great! He had on a long black coat and looked super cool too! I also agree with you about Scotty. Not too impressed with him. Have a great week end!
Richie Law: .0000000000000000000001
Carrie Underwood: 9.3 Really good list though. The only reason Scotty sold so many albums was because of tweenies.
“Its Still KC”
Carrie Underwood is dazzling. Her 8.4 score came from a low Power score. Her other 3 catagories were in the 9s.
Thanks!
The only thing I am concerned with your revelation as a sound engineer is the fact that your studio only measure the graphs that shows , frequency , pitch and range. It does not measure or provide measurements on the beauty of the sound and the way the music is delivered by the musician, the timing , where certain lyrics are highlighted and punched. In other other words I believe that even cats and dogs will rate high in such an equipment. Being a musician I use a similar equipment to help me : mix, transpose , do voice overs , and many other necessary things related to recording music.
I noticed that you rate Scott Mcreery low in your measurements, thats ok but in bracket (Voting Problem) He is selling a lot of albums right now, a lot more than some of the people you rated much higher. C’mon you know and I know that’s not all what is all about. Now I can be wrong and open to hear your comments. I am not a fan of Scott necessarily but I do like country among other genres.
Pepe,
Thank you very much for the comments and I am glad to be talking to a fellow musician.
See my reply to Phillis regarding Adam Lambert.
“Phyllis, See my note about Adam above. He is a great singer, I am a big

-We are by no means predicting who sells the most albums. But American Idol started as a singing competition, and by God, we are going to go the extra mile to make sure it stays that way.
-Transposing, Voiceovers, and recording music has little to do with singing ability. Our group that does this has a combined 120 years of recording/music experience. We have gathered that singing ABILITY does not predict whether someone will sell albums.
So, let me ask you this Pepe. What do you think of Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, and Lana Del Rey? They are selling quite a few albums, but would you say about their “singing ability” is on the same level as the others? I am not shedding any opinions here. Since this is a SINGING competition, we are grading them on exactly that.
I would say that Scotty McCreery and company sold alot of albums through his teenage girl and grandmother style fanbase. If you looked at the demographics as a whole, the majority of people that watch this show are of that gender and those age groups.
But back to the point at hand:
This is a singing competition, and we are trying to get it to stay that way. Oh, and the cats and dogs comment was funny. Since when have you heard a cat and dog have great pitch, harmony, and vocal range? LOL! Surely you must be kidding.
I would argue that a cat or dog could sell lots of albums if they were even able to sing off key!
By the way, we appreciate the beauty of the sound. We make music everyday. We just want this show to be fair, and currently, it is not.
I agree to a certain extent , I am not questioning your group’s experience, I do know that your group is more than capable from what you tell me. So I am not questioning the validity of your tabulations. LOL
And to answer your question on why Britney , Miley and Lana are selling albums?? It is the same reason why Scott and Lady Gaga , and
and Katy Perry and the rest of the younger artist today will continue to sell millions of albums – The Tweens who has the most buying power.
Is it good music? I will let you answer that one. My question is how are you going to stop the tweens from voting who they like? This tabulation won’t mean anything to them. Just like when my parents first heard of The Doors back when I got involved in picking up a guitar.
They did not know what evil cult I belong to. I told them I just like listening to them, LOL Have fun with this, just don’t be too biased!!
Pepe,
I agree that a person’s singing ability does not have to sound amazing to sell albums, and that is what the surrounding music is for. Guitar tracks, drum tracks, auto tuners, and harmony tracks, it all makes for an amazing experience. Thank you, we will try and not be too biased.
By the way, I had the pleasure to work with Lady Gaga in NYC before she was Lady GAGA. Stefani was beautiful, talented, and made me cry with every note she sang and played on the piano. After a few hours of just listening to her, I told her..”you are bigger than NYC. Your passion for music sets the standard in this area. There isn’t much I can do for you, except become a fan.” Two weeks later, Rob Fusari got ahold of her and the rest is history. Trust me Pepe, Lady Gaga may seem rough around the edges, but that girl can jam on the piano. She has one of the most soulful voices Ive ever heard. She doesn’t use auto tuners, and dances while she sings.
Our system generated the score 8.9 for Mrs. Gaga.
Hi Salvatore,
Wow, that is good to know , I do admire Lady Gaga, she knows her stuff !!
And I can tell she has a lot more to give but restricted to the showcases she performs but that is what her fans are looking for and it wont be the same without all the glitter that is only “GAGA” 😀
I really do appreciate your input in this and hope that you continue !This page will learn a lot from your group’s expertise. And I am with you 100% in trying to make this show a more legitmate vehicle to find the very best America can give. Music is what makes the world go round and round. And thanks for understanding my concerns!!
Salvatore how about Haley Reinhart?
Salvatore, I do smell a voting problem regarding Scotty McCreary!
I have said that from day 1
Rog, I must refrain from commenting on this one, because it will sound biased. Let me just say that I DEFINATELY agree with you. Scotty scored among the likes of Lana Del Ray, Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears. Nuff said.
Salvatore,
And, I am definitely not surprised at Pia’s high standing…I thought wasshafted last year. Thanks for posting the list/
Rog,
Our program glorifys Pia Toscano. Everything about her vocal ability sent our programs readings just about off the chart. One of our producers is not a big fan, but we all love her. He really ate crow when the readings came through.
She has not even hit her vocal peak age for a female, which is around 32-40. Smoking, drugs. and unhealthy behaviors all affect vocal ability, so as long as Pia stays away from that, which she has…it should be ok. She has never been connected to any of that.
Pia’s power ability actually was the highest our program has ever recorded, but Aretha was better on the other three categories, which is why she scored higher.
You said the top 11 will be announced Thursday, um shouldn’t that be the top 12?
jen hirsh has got the voice to go all the way,i’d vote for her but as i live in oz i hope she gets loads of support.
Heejun Han, the next American Idol
Yeah!
why is david not in it. he is very good. what is going on with these judges? i am shocked.
Whoaa hoo colton dixon made it baby <3<3 omg i hope he wins i fell in love with him.
We Want Johnny make through!!! or American idol will lose a lot of audiences in Taiwan!!!
Funny here’s one audience member in Taiwan you WILL lose of Johnny makes it through, I hope he never comes back! Gimme some Jermaine “The Gentle Giant” Jackson over that arrogant spoiled rich white boy any day.
