Next week on American Idol 2014, the Top 9 contestants return with a new theme that puts them in front of band. Wait, what?
FOX has announced the Top 9 finalists will be performing under the Idol theme of “I’m With The Band” where they’ll be the front singer for Idol’s house band with Rickey Minor.
So I’m guessing this means the band will be more prominently featured behind the singers rather than off to the side since they already do perform as the lead singer to Rickey and his band each week. We’ll have to wait and see for sure what that does to their arrangement.
As for the song picks the Top 9 finalists will get to sing their favorite hits. Awesome. American Idol 2014 continues to steer clear of the terrible, narrow and awkward theme restrictions and keeps the song book wide open.
Let’s get ready and start the song recommendations right now. What do you want to hear your favorite Idol performer sing next Wednesday night? Share your thoughts below!
I have to disagree with the criticisms about theme weeks from seasons past. The theme weeks of this season seem much more limited and narrow as far as song choices. Aside from Songs From The Movies week, its modern pop… period.
I really enjoyed seeing contestants in the past challenging themselves with songs they may not be as familiar within different styles/genres. This season primarily, the singers choose what they like to listen to today so the show comes off more “karaokeish” than ever before.
AI has gone from a varied age group appeal to a strictly teen to young adult demographic. Having 3 judges approaching middle age won’t be enough to keep older viewers (like myself) on board. It’s sad, I use to really enjoy this show.
I so agree with Michael. I am bored with the karaoke. I’d like to hear classic songs that the contestants make new. The judges are the best thing about the show this year. They should be mentoring to help these young contestants grow into themselves and a career, not a flash-in-the pan pop moment.
check out “the voice”. the talent is amazing
a truly great singer can sing anything from any genre. the theme weeks showcase that talent…if it’s there. please refer to season 8.
Oh they could sing but it might not sound good.
and that separates the good from the ridiculous!!
If it were my call I’d have Dexter sing, “What’s Forever For” Michael Martain Murphey or “I Almost Callled Her Baby By Mistake”, The Galtin Brothers , He needs to sing from his heart and a slow number at that
Love MMM so not bad. But Dex would probably go for “Wildfire” instead. As far as the Gatlin Bros. IMO they depend so much on the harmonies, I’m not sure that would work. I drew a blank for what Malaya and Jena should sing, but for the rest:
Alex – Like a Rolling Stone the Band w Dylan
Caleb – Still The Same Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet
Dex – Don’t hand Me No Lines Georgia Satellites
CJ – Small Town John Mellencamp
Jess – I Need You Now Lady Antebellum
Majesty – Baby Girl Sugarland
Sam – Garden Party Stone Canyon Band w Rick Nelson
geat choices. now, are they smart enough to listen????????
For me,
Alex – Just The Way You Are, Billy Joel, Don’t Let Me Be Lonely Tonight, James Taylor
Caleb – Could Not Ask For More, Edwin, McCain
CJ – Change The World, Eric Clapton
Jenna – 1 2 3 , Gloria Estefan and The Miami Sound Machine
Majesty – Break Out – Swing Out Sister
Jess – Gloria – Laura Branigan ,
Sam – Precious And Few, Climax, I’d Really Love To See You Tonight,
Dan & John Ford Coley
Dexter – other choices…. Forever And Ever Amen, Randy Travis, Redneck Girl , Bellamy Brothers or Back Home Again, John Denver
Mayla – Fire In The Morning, Melissa Manchester, Same Ole Love Anita Baker,Sweet Love Antia Baker
I would really like to hear Caleb sing “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey…would be the perfect song for Caleb…it would be awesome…and CRAZY GOOD!! 🙂 just wish I could be there to hear him sing whatever!! CALEB IS COOL!!! 🙂
It’s a great song, but it’s so overdone between talent shows, films and Glee.
would love to hear Dexter do Garth Brooks And the Thunder Rolls
or a Randy Travis song
Another song about shooting someone? Why? How about “The Chair” by George Strait? Or if you want Randy Travis how about “Is It Still Over” or “Digging Up Bones”?
I’d love to hear Caleb sing “Devil with a Blue Dress”
Would love to hear CALEB sing DREAM ON! Would be extraordinary!!
