Last night on American Idol 2016 we said goodbye to Avalon Young and Lee Jean. So now we’re down to six and it’s time to look at how that six did last night with this week’s report card.
We’ve got two rounds to report: solo and duets. And since the duets don’t really count for anything, I’m not going into detail with those, but will still assign them the letter grades I think each deserves. So let’s get to it.
American Idol 2016 Top 6 Report Card
La’Porsha Renae, “Come Together.” This was a great song choice and a great performance. She had a great look and her attitude was just right for the song. It was nice to see a different side to La’Porsha. Great job. Grade: A+
MacKenzie Bourg, “You Are So Beautiful.” This wasn’t his best performance or anything, but it was sweet and tender and I give him bonus points for picking a song the ladies will love, not to mention one that he was able to connect so well to it. Grade: B+
Trent Harmon, “Stand By Me.” I loved this song choice and I loved the vocals and the stage presence and the styling. That was all just very, very good. Loved the song arrangement, too. That was able to make a pretty old song seem fresh and new. Trent is a great artist. Grade: A+
Tristan McInosh, “A Broken Wing.” This was a good song choice for her. I didn’t love the song, but this is her wheelhouse. Country songs seem to be what work for her best. I think this was one of her better performances, even though she did push a little too hard. Grade: B
Dalton Rapattoni, “Eleanor Rigby.” Eh. I wasn’t a fan of this performance. I liked the arrangement, but I didn’t like the way he presented it. It becomes more apparent every week that he’s not a great vocalist. He’s a good performer, but he isn’t the best singer. Grade: C
Sonika Vaid, “I Have Nothing.” Still emotional from her surprising bottom 3 trip, Sonika took on this huge Whitney Houston song and it paid off. It was definitely a performance worthy of keeping her in the completion. It’s not my favorite by her, but it was still very solid. Grade: B+
