On Sunday night, the remaining half of the American Idol 2018 Top 24 took to the stage with their solo rounds, and showed the first group how it’s done.
These 12 semi-finalists by far outshined the first 12 that performed last week. Standouts from the night were Marcio Donaldson, Ada Vox, Maddie Poppe, Jurnee and Mara Justine.
Marcio Donaldson wowed the judges, and us, as he always does This time he did so with Natalie Cole’s “Inseparable.” It was emotional and his vocals were flawless. Marcio just has such a bright presence about him. He’s so fun to watch.
Ada Vox took on Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good” in a powerhouse performances that left the judges in awe. It was full throttle the whole time and most certainly secured her a spot in the Top 14. And then Maddie Poppe Pulled out “Brand New Key” by Melanie, and introduced a whole new group of people to that wonderful song from the 1970s. Her personality is infectious and her style is a doable quirky.
Jurnee proved once again how effortless she is with her version of “Flashlight” by Jessie J and Mara slowed things down to only one hair-flip with Whitney Houston’s “Run to You.” Both are some of the best singers in the competition.
There weren’t any actual terrible performances from this half of the Top 24. Alyssa Raghu’s performance of “Stay” by Rihanna was probably the rockiest of all, which means she’s likely in danger Monday night when the judges make their cuts.
