Last season Paula Abdul predicted that having a 4th judge would be a problem for American Idol. Well, American Idol 2010 won’t have to worry about that issue because Abdul just confirmed that she will NOT be returning to Idol!

With sadness in my heart, I’ve decided not to return to IDOL. I’ll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all being a part of a show that I helped from day 1 become an international phenomenon. What I want to say most, is how much I appreciate the undying support and enormous love that you have showered upon me. It truly has been breathtaking, especially over the past month. I do without any doubt have the BEST fans in the entire world and I love you all.
Could this just be a public move to finally get the huge paycheck she wants and, honestly, deserves? I hope Paula comes back as the show just won’t be the same without her. Let’s see how this plays out.

@Marilyn: I agree that Paula might not need that much money, but considering what a cash cow Idol is for Fox and how many years she’s put in to supporting and lending her name when that show had no credibility (Seacrest, Simon, and Randy were no-names in the US before this) then I think it’s reasonable that they owe her a fair cut of its massive earnings.
It’s all relative. It’s definitely a huge amount of money, but the show is making an even huger amount of money.
I think it’s absolutely ridiculous that Ryan Seacrest receives 40 Million and you offer Paula 4 Million. I knew this was going to happen when that SNAKE Kara DioGuardi joined the show last year and thinks she knows everything AND IS OBNOXIOUS. I think you should do yourself a big favour and negotiate a better deal with Paula, she is an ICON of the show and it won’t be the same without her. If you don’t I sincerely think you’ll lose a lot of viewers and your ratings will go down. Please Simon, renegotiate.
I think it stinks, that they won’t give Paula what she wants. After all, who thinks Ryan is worth 4 million? Come onnnn! Paula belongs with the show, alot more then Ryan. It is wrong not to offer her something more. Get rid of Judge 4 and pay Paula. I would rather look at her than Kara.

I am sad that Paula isnt going to be there and i hope it changes she is the sweet part of the show and they need all of the diffent personalys to make it work i dont know if in going to watchit this year

Well Idol is down to two judges now, kira, or what ever her name is, is just a puppet, she would repeat everything Randy said, she was always clueless.
Paula was great, I can not believe they would not give her what she wanted, the show makes a small fortune, I think it will not be the same with out Paula, and I will probably get sick of that idiot judge they brought on last year, I used to have to mute her.

Good riddance to bad rubbish ! Paula serves no purpose as a judge in the show, she never said anything constructive, never helped the contestants in anyway, all she did was talking rubbish. She said she will miss “nurturing all the new talent”, excuse me? nurturing? At least Kara gave constructive criticisms, she told the contestants where exactly were their weaknesses and how to technically improve..

American Idol will definitely not be the same without Paula… I was rather put-off by the addition of DioGuardi because I didn’t feel the 4th judge was really needed and her long winded judging remarks which grew progressively boring to me. However, she did win me over with her surprise interruption of Bikini Girl’s horrible performance and her bra and panties reveal in the finale show.
I was an avid fan of American Idol and was in awe of season eight’s final 12 contestant’s talent but after experiencing the extremely flawed voting method that kept so many of the Adam Lambert fans from getting their votes through and now to add insult to injury the news of Paula Abdul not returning to the show, I very much doubt that my DVR will not be programmed to record AI this coming season.
The show will not be the same if Paula Abdul does not come back to the show. She will be greatly missed. Please come back Paula. We love you.

Paula should be made to stay and Kara, This way we retain the original flavour of AI while injection new freshness with Kara being the addition. Anyway, without Paula the show would never be the same though she is not the main draw. I would give up watching AI without Paula
Big mistake not bringing Paula back. The old saying if it is not broke do not fix it. The show has been great the way it was 3 judges then this year 4. DO not take away part of the founders or watch it will start going down hill this year in ratings. Many people like the balance and kindness PAula brings.

I enjoy Paula as she seems to really care for the contestants. She will be missed and I hope the show reconsiders her request for more money. This has nothing to do with Kara. Randy and Kara seemed to team up while Simon and Paula did their thing. I love the show and will watch no matter who judges because it is about the singers. They are there to launch their careers and we all get to be part of it. So please, Mr. Simon Fuller, pay Paula and lets get on with it.
In as much as Simon almost has the final say in these competitions, the show will DEFINITELY NEVER BE THE SAME without Paula. Even when it appeared she ate her words, it was part of the thrill. Paula is one of the pillars of AMERICAN IDOL. Without her the show will never be the same again. She is the darling, sweetheart and a person whose motivating new talents to reach on their dreams and who always says” never give up”. She molds new talents to show their best and be a real performer.
Well All I can say is this. I looked forward to the new season as I do every year and to see all of the judges and Paula being one of them from day one deserves to be paid!! I will miss her happy smiling face. She was a joy to watch as well as the other 2 dog and Simon. They were great as a threesome. I get up every day at 5 AM to do my chores and would have to drink coffee at night just to stay awake to watch Idol it was worth it and great entertainment thru the winter months into the spring. Everyone I know says the same thing it will never be American Idol without Paula. She thinks she has a heavy heart about this well we all feel the same here in the country and the mountain country. It was nice to get snowed in and watch the show we always knew what we were going to see the best of the best on TV when the show aired!!! Now I think not so much without her. I will find it very hard to watch the show without her there. I am sure it will be boring and probably will watch another TLC reality show instead of Idol Fox makes plenty of Money from Idol!!! The rating’s will fall I ma afraid but you only get what you pay for Simon!

I think the only way we could except this was if in a deep coma in a hospital some where or if she had a bad experience in life to prevent her from appearing on the show. I can’t believe that AI would keep boring Kara instead of Paula. I am really uset that they would do that to her after all the years she has been on the show. Kara was the worse msitake that AI has ever made. No I will not watch AI without Paula, if they can pay rude Simon that kind of money and Ryan then why in the world couldn’t they pay her what she wants! I think that Paula has been a great balance for AI judges panel. She promoted beautiful fashion by he appearance, wit, adequate responds in comments and sense of humor.
I also think that all AI judges do the same work so then they should be paid equally. Judges make the AI interesting, dry responds from judges would be boring (for example, Ms.Kara…sorry). It may be very hard to enrich Simon’s comments, Paula was a great oponent and partner. BUT the show will go on…..

How can we leave messages for the producers of AI, I think if we all bombard them with complaints them may change their tune! Get rid of Kara and go back to the old version. I don’t think it will make any difference to the fans that watch the show. I beleive that this show is about talent not judging. Altho sometimes I think the judges think the show is about them.

That is my opinion. I do not think that many will watch this show without Paula. What I do not understand is why everyone else was offered massive paychecks, except Paula. I wil be really sad to see Paula leave..she was always positive influence on these young people…something most of them never receive. I will still watch it but I will be very sad..none of the other judges have the compassion Paula has..I love her and her sincerity.
I agree it will not be the same without Paula and I will not watch. Kara is not nearly as likable or funny. I heard this morning that Posh Spice–aka–Victoria Beckham may take Paula’s place. She’s even less personable than Kara, and is extremely dislikable. I think the show is not going to last much longer at this rate.

I’ve always honestly wondered why they even have judges. Because, all they ever did up until last season was commentary. The antics between Paula and Simon were getting more and more ridiculous as time went on, and I’ve actually felt embarrassed for her when she would come on totally messed up on her drugs. Kara is just flat irritating. Simon thinks it’s all about him. Randy is without doubt, the most real person on the panel. But again I ask, why is there a panel in the first place? And now there’s talk about bringing that spice girl on? Oh GAG. Maybe, despite what the show is supposed to be about, just maybe it’s time for it to fold. Then they can start a new show. I think that without Paula, it will be the beginning of the end for American Idol ! I was very unhappy last season with the new judge on your show. It was obvious she was there to push Paula out ! Paula should be treated fairly as everyone got an increase in pay so should she! She has been the one that keeps it interesting among the judges always keeping the fans guessing what she is going to say to Simon or to the contestant. I hope that she is made an offer that she will return to idol as she is a strong pillar of the show! Having 4 judges will not hurt just make it more interesting among the judges…
I really don’t want Paula to leave. Last season with that Kara or what ever her name is, made me want to leave the room every time she spoke! It was obvious to me that she was there just to upset things, Paula for sure. To me Paula is so great with the contestants, she really makes them feel that they have a chance, a little motherly love there in other words. Kara forget it, she is a fake if I have ever seen one. The show does not need someone with a snobby attitude like Kara has. I can not promise that I can watch or not. And to think this has been my number one show every season since the beginning!

This may be the end of American Idol. I don’t know why they ever got a fouth judge to start with. The three judges they had Paula, Randy, and Simon had a chemistry, especially Paula and Simon. There other judege no one had ever heard of. I did enjoy seeing her in the finally with binnki girl. I hope the show continues, but I think they will lose viewers.

Of course I will still watch the show…I didn’t watch the show because Paula was a judge, I watched it because I enjoyed the show. It was a grave mistake on American Idol’s part for not giving Paula Abdul the same compensation as the others were given. I have watched every Idol show since it’s beginning, but will not see another. Paula was one of the original judges, and should receive the same salary as the other original judges,and it host – Ryan Seacrest. What makes one better than the other? They all contribute the same to the show so why the discrimination against Paula. I think you will find that a lot of people will not be watching next season because of your mistake to let her go.

Let her quit if she wants to be greedy! I mean, she should just be happy to have a job! I personally don’t think she really brought anything to the show at all. All she ever did was agree with Randy and pretty much just rehashed whatever he said. And she thought she was such a hotshot using words like “authenticity”! It’ll be interesting to see how the show changes without her.
I will watch the show even without Paula. Yes, she is good but the show will go on without her something I don’t think would be possible if Simon left. I think $15 million is too much to pay Ryan as well and I gather Paula wants $10 million. These folks should have to live in the real working world!

although i am an enormous fan of paulas i have to say the drama and constant nagging with simon was getting out of controll. there were times when my young children asked whats wrong with her frankly i wondered if she was tipsy a couple of times myself. she would go on,and on at many times and you are in too much suspence to wait for the gibberish to finish. ellen is another one of my very favorite people and i think she was possitively a brilliant choice
Hire Paula back she is better than the other woman the snake. and Ellen .Ellen is to funny for this kind of show and shouldn’t be a judge.You should be serious not a comedian she will not do well as a judge

I will not watch a show with Ellen on it. So now I will not be watching my formerly favorite show on TV. I enjoyed Paula’s comments as she always had a positive comment to give to the performers and I usually agreed with her on how the contestants performed. You will lose many viewers with this change. Does Ellen know music? Paula really did!

But she is not a record producer like Simone. She doesn’t find great stars like Leona Lewis who Simone found. And Paula is so sweet. Her fans are going to miss her terribly! I agree with Sherry’s last comment on the 1st of October. It should always be the 3 main judges from the beginning. You are right about the wrong person winning idol last year. Adam Lambert should’ve won it hands down. He had the most raw, original talent on the show. While they all a talented (well at least most) That was the wrong person. But that is just an opinion. Ellen as a judge, I think Not, now that is a joke.

i think it is the show that makes us watch it not anyone else so i will and always watch the show. my hubby and i go to the concert of the top 10 no matter wher it is. about paula good by if i want to see a drug/alcholic i can watch the people on the streets
I agree with “when it’s not broken, don’t fix it”. Randy, Paula and Simon where American Idol. Why bring on Kara? Maybe if Kara was not an extra expense, Paula could have earned what she deserved. I am saddened she has left. She was the “heart” in American Idol.

I am upset upon Paula not returning, and replace by Ellen. This woman is okay to do talk shows, but not judging singing. What is she going to do? Tell them a joke?? I agree it was the chemistry that made the show. I think Americans will tune in becasue we are drawn to the talent search. It won’t be the same and my guess is she was not being paid as much as Simon and Randy. I would leave too. = I hope the ratings are low and the show looses sponsorship. If they don’t bring her back next year, I predict that someone else, either Ryan or Randy will bail.

It’s really sad, when someone is putting Paula down, and upholding Ellen, when they don’t even know her correct name. That says how much thought was put into Lindsey’s comment. I for one, do not think Ellen will be any good on AI, nor will she bring anything good to the table.
Paula on the other hand, was cute, and bubbly. The chemestry between her, and Simon was great, and really fun to watch. She could bring out the playfulness in even Simon. She will be greatly missed on the show, and anyone who says Paula never helped the contestants, is a clueless…brainless twit, who obviously wasn’t watching the show. We wish Paula all the luck, and happiness this world has to offer.

I agree with Cheryl, if they wouldn’t have had Kara back on the show, they could have given Paula a raise!!!! Since when do you have an even number of judges anyhow, on account of a tie??? Simon doesn’t act the same this year without Paula,they played off of each other so well, but the other two don’t!!
