American Idol 2014: What Should The Top 6 Sing?

This week on American Idol 2014, the Top 6 are taking on two songs each: one will be country and the other rock n’ roll.

Too bad Dexter Roberts left last week because I’d be able to finally hear him do something other than country. Anyway, it’s time for me to take my shots in the dark at what the contestants should sing this week. This season this has been extra difficult with these broad themes, so wish me luck.

Jessica Meuse: “Jolene” by Dolly Parton would be a good country pick for her. I don’t know why, but that’s the first thing that came to my mind and now I really want it to happen. As for the rock song, I’m going to go with “I Want To Know What Love Is” by Foreigner. I again don’t know why, but since I’m never going to get it right, I’m going to go with what I really want them to sing.

Sam Woolf. “When You Say Nothing At All” by Keith Whitley. It’ a soft and tender song for a soft and tender guy. Let’s face it, he’s never going to do anything upbeat so I’m sticking with soft and tender. As for the rock song, let’s go with “With or Without You” by U2.

Alex Preston. “Always on My Mind” by Willie Nelson. I think a nice cool guitar version of this song could actually be pretty sweet for Alex. He could have a moment with it. For the rock song, I’m getting a “Maggie Mae” by Rod Stewart vibe. I don’t know why, but that could be pretty cool.

Jena Irene. “Fancy” by Reba McEnture. I’m leaning toward Reba for Jena for some reason. I just want her to put a rock edge on “Fancy.” As for the rock song, I would say “I Love Rock n’ Roll,” but she JUST did that. So maybe she could pull out some Pat Benetar this week. “Heartbreaker,” perhaps.

C.J. Harris. Ugh. I can’t believe I’m still having to pick songs for this guy. His song choices are always so random and all over the place. I don’t even know what to say. Country song: “The Dance” by Garth Brooks. Rock song: “Bad Moon Rising” by CCR.

Caleb Johnson. “This is How We Roll” by Florida Georgia Line. Someone should sing a current country song, so might as well be Caleb. As for the rock song, I’m again picking “Sweet Child O Mine” by Guns n Roses. Maybe if I pick it enough, he’ll do it. Or “Blaze of Glory” by Bon Jovi.

What would you like to hear the American Idol 2014 Top 6 sing this week?
