Update: TVLine has announced the rest of the Top 5 songs for tonight.

Who has the best song picks so far? Alex’s pick is right up his alley while I could do without Caleb’s. He’ll probably turn that song around though and make it very entertaining. Share your thoughts on the song selections!

  1. Are they only doing one song each? How will that fill a two hour show? I’m not impressed with this list, although I think Sam will be OK.

  2. Apparently American Idol Net is not a fan of Caleb. Hes the only person in the competition that can sing anything and comes out owning the stage. I would pay to see Caleb concert. Hes not boring like some of the others.

  3. I think Sam runs the risk of being boring. Jena runs the risk of it not being familiar to everyone. I personally know and like that song, but it is a little obscure in the US. Caleb will probably do great, but I think he needs to be more contemporary. The 70’s rock sound is not popular at all right now. I love Alex’s choice, but that song has been really overplayed. I am REALLY interested to see the 2nd song choice!!! :0

  4. I think “I don’t want to miss a thing” would be a better song for Jessica, forcing her to finally connect with the emotion of the song than for Caleb. Staying with the Aerosmith idea, I think Caleb could hit a serious homerun with “Dude looks like a lady”.

    • That is a great idea – to give Jessica something of that quality in lyric and message. I don’t really want to hear Caleb sing it. “Say Something” was done in an outstanding way on X Factor just a few months ago, I can’t believe that these vocal competition shows keep using the same songs over and over. All the wealth of music there is to choose from, and these are the songs?

  5. Why is everyone’s song EXCEPT Jessica’s up on iTunes Philippines?? They better not hose her on iTunes US tonight! This makes me really mad!

  6. I’m wondering if Alex will find proper balance with turning say something into one of his Alex versions. Like Jen has said before sometimes he crosses the line…I feel like at this point it could cost him if he does.

    • HIs iTunes recording is just like the original. Hoping he changes it up a little bit tonight.

  7. Imo kind of worried too about Sam’s being boring with his song choice…but then again I kind of thought the same about it’s time last week and he nailed it so we’ll see.

  8. That’s great to hear selena…I’m hoping he takes Keith’s advice and let his emotions out. I think he could with this song as I could see him connecting this song with his mom.

  9. Sam’s song is already at #37 on Philippines iTunes. BEFORE Jessica’s song is even up! Do they know Sam will be in the bottom 2 tomorrow and is this their way of making sure he does not go home????!!!!

    3. Alex Preston

    5. Jessica Meuse

  13. Caleb TWO Songs are the absolute best picks of THE NIGHT ! Both fresh and extremely POPULAR Ones that will fit his voice and style perfectly. Another Epic Night for the future Winner Of Season 13 !

  14. I tried to buy Sam’s song but it says it’s no longer available. Can someone tell me why? Thanks. I love the preview of the song …he sounds so good!

  15. I thought it was obvious that I was talking for myself.

Folks need to calm down if they get this fired up and go crazy just because we write that we’re not thrilled by a song pick. I didn’t say I thought Caleb was the scourge of the Earth. I said I didn’t want to hear that song for an eighth time on Idol and he could have picked something else. Take a deep breath and relax.

  16. So Alex is singing the song that his friends Alex & Sierra sang on The X Factor. He better do a really, really good job on that freakin’ performance!
