American Idol 2014: What Should The Top 11 Sing?

The American Idol 2014 Top 11 will be singing Songs from the Cinema this week and I have to say I’m relieved! We finally have a legitimate theme so my weekly song suggestion post won’t be as ridiculous! So let’s do this!

What should the American Idol 2014 Top 11 sing?

Alex Preston. I think it’s been done, but I’d love to hear a stripped down version of “Don’t You Forget About Me” from “The Breakfast Club.”

Ben Briley. “The Devil Went Down To Georgia” from “Urban Cowboy” would be perfect for Ben. He likes to perform with intensity, so this would be perfect.

Caleb Johnson. I have several ideas for Caleb, but I’ve narrowed them down to  “Live And Let Die” from the Bond film of the same name or Bon Jovi’s “Blaze of Glory” from “Young Guns.” Either would be perfect for him.

C.J. Harris.  I struggled with C.J’s song suggestion because I struggle with what kind of artist he is. I’m sell not sure. So I went with “Everybody’s Talking” from “Midnight Cowboy.” I think that could work for him.

Dexter Roberts. I feel like there’s only one movie Dexter will be pulled toward and that’s “Pure Country.” If he does go that route, I hope he picks “I Cross My Heart” by George Strait. I’d much rather him take a non-country song and put a country spin on it. So I’ll cross my fingers.

Jena Irene. Jena needs to do something this week to get her out of the bottom. So my song suggestion won’t really do that, but I’d love to hear her sing “We Don’t Need Another Hero” from “Max Max: Beyond The Thunderdome.”

Jessica Meuse. I might be crazy for suggesting this (no pun intended) but I really want to hear Jessica do Madonna’s “Crazy For  You” from “Vision Quest.” She could put her own spin on it, of course. I could dig it.

Majesty Rose. I think Prince is a tough one to get approval from, but I’d like to hear “Purple Rain” on American Idol again. Paris Bennet did it her season and I think it took some work to get Prince to OK it, but I want someone to do it this season.

Malaya Watson. I like Malaya best when she’s doing something classic that requires a strong voice. I was thinking “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” or “Don’t Rain On My Parade.” The problem with those songs, however, is that they’re dated. She might want to go with something more current.

MK Nobilette. I struggled with MK’s suggestion also. I decided she’s best when she’s being sweet and tender so I thought of  “In Your Eyes” from “Say Anything.”

Sam Woolf. Sam with just a guitar and his voice singing “Everything I Do (I Do It For You)” from “Robin Hood.” I think he could have a moment.

Songs we don’t need to hear: “Falling Slowly” from “Once” (it’s a great song and would be great for Sam, but it’s been done twice now on Idol) “Against All Odds” (way over done), “My Heart Will Go On” (no, no, no) and anything from “The Bodyguard” (let Whitney rest in peace).

What would you like to hear the American Idol 2014 Top 11 sing this week?
