Even though only the Top 10 of the American Idol 2015 contestants will perform, this new elimination method leaves me with picking songs for all of the Top 11.
And with Maddie Walker sick, who knows what will happen. But the show and blog must go on, so lets take a look at what I’d like to hear the contestants sing this week for their songs from movies theme.
Before I get into what I want to hear them sing here’s what I don’t want to hear. I don’t want “I Believe I Can Fly.” Or “Falling Slowly.” Or “I Will Always Love You.”
Tyanna Jones, “Purple Rain” by Prince from “Purple Rain.” I won’t rest until someone on this show sings this song. I know Prince is a little weird about his music rights, but I think American Idol can make this happen. And Tyanna would be perfect for the song.
Adanna Duru, “Independent Women Part I” by Destiny’s Child from “Charlie’s Angles.” I think she might do a ballad since her past couple of performances have been upbeat, but I’d actually really like to hear take this one on.
Jax, “Call Me” by Blondie from “American Gigolo.” I’m set on this being Jet’s song. She could put her own little spin on it and really make it her own.
Clark Beckham, “(Everything I Do) I Do It For You” by Bryan Adams from “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.” I think this is a very cliche song for him to do, but I could totally see it work out for him. He could start behind the piano and then leave that behind for just him and the stage.
Daniel Seavey, “Don’t You Forget About Me” by Simple Minds from “The Breakfast Club.” Daniel is a tough one to pick for. Mostly because all of these songs are so much older than him. But I could see him doing good things with this great movie song.
Nick Fradiani, “Blaze of Glory” by Bon Jovi from “Young Guns.” I don’t know if Nick has the big Bon Jovi voice this song requires, but it would be fun to see him make it his own. He could slow it down with just him and his guitar.
Qaasim Middleton, “Jailhouse Rock” by Elvis from “Jailhouse Rock.” Qaasim definitely needs to amp things back up again this week after last week’s boring effort. I think this could be just the song for him.
Quentin Alexander, “End of the Road” by Boyz II Men from “Boomerang.” I’m not sure Quentin will be performing but I think he needs to show a softer side to himself and this would be the perfect opportunity and song.
Joey Cook, “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” from “Mary Poppins.” I mean why the hell not? She’s Joey Cook. She could take this ridiculous song and sing it ridiculously and bring the house down.
Maddie Walker, “Let it Go” from “Frozen.” I mean someone is going to sing it, right? Maybe not. Let’s hope not. Of course I don’t even know if she’s going to be able to perform. Let’s hope she doesn’t actually do “Let it Go” but instead does “9 to 5” by Dolly Parton.
Rayvon Owen, “Stand By Me” by Ben E. King from “Stand By Me.” I always like when this song is done and I think it’s perfect for Rayvon. I think he’ll probably go with something more current, but I hope he goes with this.
What would you like to hear the American Idol 2015 Top 11/10 sing?
