Continuing in the Filmore Theater in Detroit the twelve remaining ladies will have their shot in the spotlight and we’re expecting great things from this group of talent as we close out the Top 24 round on American Idol for Season 14.

As a reminder, here is the list of female contestants singing tonight on Idol:

Adanna Duru, Alexis Gomez, Jax, Joey Cook, Katherine Winston, Loren Lott, Lovey James, Maddie Walker, Sarina-Joi Crowe, Shi Scott, Shannon Berthiaume, and Tyanna Jones.

When tonight’s show begins then so does the voting through online and apps then phone and text soon after (full Idol voting details). Only eight of these twelves ladies will survive the upcoming elimination and it’s all up to you, America!

Lovey James sings “Love Runs Out” by OneRepublic

Great song choice for Lovey James with her great energy and stage presence though the performance may be outshining parts of the vocals. I think this will push her on through though. Jennifer says it was a great way to start the night. Harry liked the song choice while Keith says it just got better and better.

Adanna Duru sings “Rather Be” by Clean Bandit

A much slower song from where we just were but it’s a smart choice to showcase Adanna Duru’s vocals. Ahh but here we go with the power and energy. Well done timing her stomps with the cymbal. It’s the little things! Keith says she had a “really good performance” while Jennifer thinks she’s going for blood with so much talent. She wants her to focus on her control. Harry agrees she got a little out of control when it cranked up, but the first part was her best yet.

Alexis Gomez sings “Gunpowder & Lead” by Miranda Lambert

In case we haven’t heard this one enough so far this season, here we go again. Alexis Gomez has Keith singing along with her and that’s never a bad thing. Definitely a fun performance and Alexis was showing a lot of comfort up there. Harry hopes she can stay in the competition but worries that her fake twang was too fake. Keith thinks she should have left the guitar backstage. Jennifer says she loved it, loves her, and wants her to keep mixing together elements of Latina and Country.

Joey Cook sings “Somebody Like You” by Keith Urban

Joey Cook is back with her accordion covering one of Keith’s songs in her quirky way. It’s a fun performance and she’s done a lot to make it over in her own style, but I do wonder how far she can get this down the American Idol road. Jennifer says that was incredibly unique in a way she had never heard it. Harry thinks if he ever had a kid with Keith the music would sound like that. Keith loves how she took the song and made it her own.

How to vote for Joey:

  • Text: 4 to 21523
  • Call: 866-IDOLS-04

Katherine Winston sings “Safe & Sound” by Taylor Swift

A beautiful but perhaps too reserved performance here by Katherine Winston. Or maybe I’m just a sucker for the high energy deliveries that get you rolling along with them. No denying that Katherine is a great singer and she’s taking full advantage to show that off tonight. Keith wants her to remember to show her feelings during the song. Jennifer says her voice has a “magical quality.” Harry thinks she’s a phenomenal vocalist, but he questions the ballad choice. Yeppers.

How to vote for Katherine:

  • Text: 5 to 21523
  • Call: 866-IDOLS-05

Shannon Berthiaume sings “Who Knew” by P!nk

Now here’s a better balance of starting off soft before cranking it up and from the reaction of the crowd I’d say it worked a better connection there. Harry thinks a wonderful thing about Shannon Berthiaume is that she’s so “green” but worries that will wear off quickly. Keith says she needs to be much more careful about her song picks. Jennifer wants Shannon to start believing in why she’s made it this far.

How to vote for Shannon:

  • Text: 6 to 21523
  • Call: 866-IDOLS-06

Loren Lott sings “Note To God” by Charice

Loren Lott starts out soft with “Note” but turns it up and shows off her powerhouse voice with a side of drama and emotion mixed in. She’s definitely ready for the stage performance and the girl can sing. Jennifer says if you weren’t shaking you weren’t human. Harry says she’s got a “lot of power” and Keith thinks she’s giving the other girls a run for the money.

How to vote for Loren:

  • Text: 7 to 21523
  • Call: 866-IDOLS-07

Shi Scott sings “Umbrella” by Rhianna

Yeah, I dunno about this one for Shi Scott. Sounds more like she’s suddenly channeling Cher up on stage. Shi’s doing a great job of playing to the crowd but I really don’t like the vocals tonight that sound like they put down a pack before the performance. Keith says it was powerful and gutsy but doesn’t think she really got him with that song. Jennifer thinks she’s a better singer than that but thinks she’ll go on. Harry says she’s really talented but didn’t pick the right song.

How to vote for Shi:

  • Text: 8 to 21523
  • Call: 866-IDOLS-08

Maddie Walker sings “Love Gets Me Every Time” by Shania Twain

There’s not a lot to the song here but Maddie Walker is having fun up there while the Judges don’t look entirely impressed. I’m guessing she’ll be just fine to make it on through. Harry thinks her voice is beyond her age and he thinks America will back her up. Keith doesn’t think it was a good pick when there are better Shania’s songs. Jennifer doesn’t think it was the right choice when America is about to make a choice of their own.

How to vote for Maddie:

  • Text: 9 to 21523
  • Call: 866-IDOLS-09

Sarina-Joi Crowe sings “Mamma Knows Best” by Jessie J

Is the 4th time the charm for Sarina-Joi Crowe? So far it sure seems like it could be. She’s got Keith swaying while staying comfortable on stage with great vocals. It a solid performance and well delivered. Jennifer says Sarina-Joi just rivaled Jessie J on this song. Harry thought she sounded great and it was a great arrangement. Keith loved her balance of loose and tight with chill but still on point.

How to vote for Sarina-Joi:

  • Text: 10 to 21523
  • Call: 866-IDOLS-10

Jax sings “Bang Bang” by Nancy Sinatra

Fun song choice for Jax who starts it out just right before turning it up to 11 and taking it right up to that little pause she did last time but thankfully it only goes a moment. Keith loves it all and her originality. Jennifer says we’re lucky to have and thinks she’ll definitely be there next week. Harry hopes we’ll see her again next week and she’ll be fun to watch.

How to vote for Jax:

  • Text: 11 to 21523
  • Call: 866-IDOLS-11

Tyanna Jones sings “Lips Are Movin” by Meghan Trainor

Fantastic way to close out the night with Tyanna Jones and a great song choice for her. Lots of range and energy while Tyanna plays to the audience. Harry says that performance puts her in to the “ridiculously talented” category. Keith doesn’t want her to hold back and go higher if she wants too. Jennifer says Tyanna’s voice is from God himself and it’s crazy.

How to vote for Tyanna Jones:

  • Text: 12 to 21523
  • Call: 866-IDOLS-12

Okay, that’s everyone tonight on American Idol 2015. Ryan reminds us to start your American Idol voting now and get ready for a major surprise. Hmm, I wonder what that’s going to be!

  1. Once again, while the performers are little more polished than last
year, the performances suffered from a rushed format and poor acoustics.
Hope this is not a sign of how it will be when we get to the one night a
    week stage.

    • That’s a good point. I wonder how much compression they’ll have to do to make it all work. It’d be nice for them to find a balance between the fluff filler of past seasons and the rush of this week’s shows.
